Thanks Mike! I wish warm temps wouldn't hit so quickly and give me more time on rivers like this.. Probably on to the smaller, colder streams now...

Great video and I love the style for the beginning. A lot different than you've done in the past. Catching that brown after the kayaker went through that pool was epic. Ha, it was always a nice little surprise when I hooked into a smallie fishing the streams back home.

Thanks.. I've been putting a lot more effort on the production quality and filming aspect. It takes a lot more time both on and off the water! Getting better but further to go... Ya know.. I remembered that I caught a fish after they passed but I didn't remember that it was first cast after until I reviewed the footage. LOL

@@tightliningmd I look at channels like Wild Fly Productions and Allegheny Native and wanted higher production value. I can't put out a high volume of videos between work and family so I'm trying to provide higher quality instead. It is a learning process for sure. I see you are closing in on 1000 subscribers... Congrats! I hit that mark last June (after 4 years of having a channel) and a year later I'm at 2400. Getting to a 1000 is a BIG step.. it shows you are relevant in the crowd of people. Keep it up and good luck! I'll be watching :)

@@WhiteDogTrailCompany It has taken me a little over 2 years. However, I put in a lot more time and work in the last year learning. Granted I had to take 4 months off for basketball coaching, so that crushed my gains. Overall though, I am pleased with the way things are going and excited for the future. Very blessed to have people that care to watch and maybe learn something along the way. Also nice to connect with other people like yourself!

White Dog Outdoors that is exactly what I do. Another thing I do is contact the state fish biologists and get reports they may have on various bodies of water. That has saved me some time after getting burned on some

Loved the video, beautiful browns! How did you decide on this section of river? I’ve been thinking of exploring new waters, but I don’t know where to look. I am in central VT.
@WhiteDogTrailCompany
@WhiteDogTrailCompany 4 года назад
Thank you! I suppose it depends on what kind of fishing you want to do and where you would target. If you like small stream wild trout Vermont is AWESOME for it. Go find a small cold stream coming out of the mountains and they're probably there. If you want bigger streams like this one they will be known in some fashion by others. This particular river I had heard about from someone several years ago although I didn't know hardly anything about it. I pulled it up on google maps to see what kind of water and terrain it was. I also looked at stocking records to see if anything is ever stocked there. But in the end I didn't know what to expect at all or how easy it would be to access... just had to go see it and fish it. I did see other fishermen but not in the area I was in. I went further away from the main access areas. If I go again I'll go even further away and work my way back up to where I started. I love this type of water because there is so much water to read and figure out and THAT is the real excitement for me. Good luck!

How do you find good spot to fish in ny. I tried looking at the state recommended streams but no wild trout streams. Do you know and we’re I can look to find streams. Love the video and some of those real nice trout.
@WhiteDogTrailCompany
@WhiteDogTrailCompany 3 года назад
I think you'll be surprised by what you find when you explore. I have spent many years exploring streams. I think having confidence in how you fish is incredibly important. I have confidence when I go explore that if there are fish there I'll find them and catch them. Things like reading water and knowing where the fish will be and how to catch them. In terms of finding spots I'll pick a blue line on a map and go explore. I actually did a vide on how to find and fish wild trout in small streams. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YSg4Ym281yA.html Some good info in that for the small stream wild trout. One of the main things is the water temp should stay cold in the summer... that is not the case in some bigger waters that do hold trout... in fact the stream in this video does not stay cold... but the oxygen created by the pocket water help the fish survive in summer I think. But a general rule is drive around with a stream thermometer and check streams for water temp in the middle of summer. If you have cold water in summer it's a good bet it will hold trout. There should be plenty of information on stocked waters on the DEC site too... The stream in this video is not wild... it is stocked. There are tons of great waters all over the state. Pick one that gets stocked and has a good population of trout and learn your techniques.. I would strongly recommend learning to Euro Nymph effectively! It literally changed EVERYTHING for me when it comes to fishing! Get confidence doing that for larger streams and in the middle of summer head into the mountains and find a small cold stream and throw dry flies and you'll find some fish!

How do you like those redington waders? I'm looking to upgrade, but haven't made up my mind on which ones to buy.
@WhiteDogTrailCompany
@WhiteDogTrailCompany 3 года назад
I'm pretty hard on waders... I put them through a lot! They have held up pretty well in general. After a couple of years (2-3 years) of hard use I start getting leaks up near the crotch area. However you can fix those with AquaSeal which I have done. So in the last 5-6 years I've bought 2 pairs of Redington Waders and can still use them both with a little touch up :) For the price, I really like them.

Nice colors on the fish!! Think they are stockies or wild-born (from stockies)?
@WhiteDogTrailCompany
@WhiteDogTrailCompany 4 года назад
Ya know... I've been going over it in my head and I'm not sure. I do know it is a stocked area (at least upstream from there). These fish all looked really clean and more wild looking colors and all fins looked really good.. but I'm not sure. Definitely wish I knew...

@@hobocan22 Yeah... I think you're right. I didn't notice it at the time and just went back to look... that right pectoral was indicative of a stocked fish... likely a holdover.

@@WhiteDogTrailCompany Agreed. Not to mention I wear a chest pack anyway. The only thing I dont like is my strap is a little tight on head and I haven't been able to loosen, so mine hurts to wear a little lol. @WhiteDogTrailCompany
@WhiteDogTrailCompany 3 года назад
I just tried to look it up and can't find it anymore. They literally were still carrying it just a couple months ago even though I've had mine for probably 4 years. It was an LLBean pack which is great for most people. I had to ditch it recently because I carry too much gear for filming now and needed something bigger and waterproof. So now I use the LLBean Switchpack.

Steele Creek as in the one that goes through Ilion NY? My step-father lived on that creek and we would lean over the edge and see trout in it.. never fished it though. LOL... The water was warm because of the previous week but the air temps that day were actually really cold. It was in the 40's when I got there and not sure it ever got out of the 50's that day. That jacket is so light but warm. If I had to take it off it literally packs up into one of the pockets and can easily be thrown in my bag. These jackets are the best for fishing!
