The main reason he would make a great villain is because he can go from “just sign here, friend, it’ll be alright.” To ”I will devour your *soul”* way quicker than should be humanly possible. Imagine, the villain spends most of his scenes with the normal, pleasant voice, and then starts slipping into _pure vocal evil_ when he’s dredging up entire legions of demons to serve him.
It's a shame because I always love stories where the villain gets drastically more evil as the story progresses, but it always happens as their plans fall apart or they get more desperate, I'd love a story where as the bad guy gets more successful and powerful he gets the more outwardly evil he becomes.
@@GenericProtagonist7 well I suppose the isekai anime Overlord sort of counts for that. He does gradually display greater power as he continuously leaves his morals behind, and he continues to have victories
@@door6 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bV-tJLlFmkw.html today the 300 years from the day when peter the great renamed muscovy tsardom into russia
Kinda wasted on rasputin. He shows up at the end like "muahahaha it was me all along" And anastasias just like, who tf are you? Ive never seen this man in my life. Hes like "i sent that scary dream!"
Rasputin was never a monk he is based on a real life atheist that infiltrated a Christian royal family and sabotaged them paving the way for communism. Also the girl Anastasia is based off died during Soviet Russia's regicidal and ethnic cleansing.
Pretty sure he was hired to treat the czar's son who had hemophilia, and he was the only one who had any clue how to help the kid. I don't know what else he did, but apparently someone tried to assassinate him multiple times and failed.
@Overlylongusername Well yeah that's how he got into the palace in the first place the man was a medical genius, he was still a skeptic radical though. He died because the commies thought he was actually a priest.
That is right. He has seen as a holy healer and the Queen’s son had that rare blood condition that caused free bleeding. He was supposed to help the Queen’s son but just talked of all the things he did with the Queen. Now the King was away battling in a war while this happened. The people became tired of him, so they tried to kill him. It took shooting him, poison, stabbing, and rolling him in a rug then dumping him in the freezing cold river to finally be done with him.
This version is so much more convincing than the original! The actual movie version never felt like an actual resurrected corpse of a psychopathic, powerful magician...this does.
There are 2 gunshots in the original. "One little girl got away." BANG. and later "I'll see her crawl into place" BANG. This is a tie to the historical events. She was shot, but the gems stitched into her clothing saved her. She was later found faking a corpse and executed. The original literally has the guy pay a homage to real events. The subtlety of that is horrific. I still get chills. I think if the gunshots were in Jon's version, it would be PERFECTION.
@@Blackdragon99omfg yeah it was brutal, the way the whole royal family was killed. But it wasnt rasputin’s fault. I just understand the premise of this movie at fucking all
Just wanted to say I used this idea of like, a young, crazy Rasputin dark-mage thing as inspiration for my current Skyrim playthrough and it has been so much fun. COME MY MINIONS RISE FOR YOUR MASTER~
Best trick to use for this- Ritual Stone, bonded to the Aetherial Crown. All you have to do to 'reset' the once per day use is take the crown off and put it back on. (Unless they got around to patching that at some point... I hope not. It's my favorite bit of evil godhood in that game.)
FunFact: Rasputin wasn't actually evil IRL, He was basically just an Apothecary (a fancy alchemist that makes drugs).... but using the mythical Rasputin as a Skyrim character does sound awesome.
I actually rewatched Anastasia after hearing this and I realized that this version is better then the original. It's been one of my favorite songs ever since
I've legitimately listened to the RU-vid version of this song so many times that when I'm listening to the version I bought for my iPod my brain just fills in the Power Rangers part automatically at the end.
Random opinion question: If there was to be a rock opera type of play based on "Anastasia", who thinks Jonathan Young should perform in it as Rasputin? (Edit: Omg, the most likes I’ve HAD on a comment! 🤯 Thnx so much everyone! 😌)
John needs to be a super villain that uses Metal as a weapon. Not like brandishing a guitar around. It should be from his voice. And he has little demon minions as a band to back him up. HE COULD BE A NECROMANCER THAT USES THE POWER OF METAL TO SUMMON DEMONS AND THE UNDEAD THAT NEEDS TO HAPPEN RIGHT NOW!
..."Little Anya beware, Rasputin's awake~" Has always been my favourite line of the song, and your flair to it was beautiful. Song well done, as usual.
I don't know if anyone's ever told you this, but besides your singing (which is wonderful as always) you're a terrific actor as well. This video, Toxic Love, Hellfire, Poor Unfortunate Souls...you get so into character every time, be it humorously like here or terrifyingly like Hellfire, and it's a real treat to watch. So many "high-quality" music videos have singers who can't act to save their life, but I'm always riveted by yours. I can tell you're having so much fun and it makes everything better XD

They turned into a Broadway musical with most of the film's songs... except In The Dark Of The Night because they decided to fully eliminate the character of Rasputin.
The nostalgia critic made a comment that always stuck with me about this song. It should be on a Meatloaf album. Your cover does it great justice!!! So glad I found your channel sir!
Oh my gods, please sing a metal version of "My Lullaby" from Lion King II! Your villain ways in those metal covers are perfect for it! Absolutely loving your metal covers!
@@stpetroff потому что в приюте все её звали Аней. Скорее всего когда Анастасия потеряла память, служащая приюта спросила как её зовут, она не смогла вспомнить, возможно пыталась что то из себя выдавить: "Ан... Ана.." Kill Me at least three of his songs i listened to him first and out of curiosity i looked up the originals and thought they were shite id never listen to them normal.
So Can Caleb Hayles and Jonathan Young be in the same Disney Move Let alone able to voice Disney Characters. I think Caleb could do the hero and Jonathan Could do the villain
"This is the part where I beg for money!" That made me laugh after listening to an epic cover of a Disney song (never thought I would type those words). If I had money, I would totally give some to you. You make great videos and I hope you continue to do so!

I’m singing along with this, and totally owning the fact that in purposely breaking my voice to sound like I’m not mentally sane. I’m sure I’ve scared my neighbors. Lol
Knowing how magnificent and popular this non-Disney villain song is, it's a real treat to see someone like Jonathan make it even more spine-chilling and villainous. ^^
This needs to be a thing. I can just imagine him in a tux and hat singing that, and making it sound TERRIFYING like he did with this one, minus any getup (not that he needs it. That messy look fits perfectly for the song.)
Another reason why I love villains in Disney and other movies…when the originals do their songs, it’s catchy but when Young gets ahold of the villain songs..they become badass and even more evil than what they’re supposed to be!! I LOVE his work over the years and I’m always catching myself listening to his covers of Disney and villains! Is there anything this man cannot do?! No matter the song, he’s always going to deliver on it and have his badass personality in it!! Rock on mate!! 🖤🤘🏼🤘🏼
Bryant Guidry true but making him hawt hawt would sell like hotcakes. On the honest sides I know several men that are borderline really ugly yet ladies adore them (none of them stink tho)
Stefan Makara That'd be interesting if they made him confusingly attractive, his dark magic at its work when even he admits he's a mess physically. Maybe the real Rasputin did a little more than cologne to pull the ladies
I just watched Anastasia (never had before), and as soon as I heard this song, I thought of Jonathan immediately-- "Did he do a metal cover of this one? I hope so that would be kick ass! Maybe I'll pause it and google-- oh. Oh my." Sometimes life just gives you a freebie :D
Amazing stuff here. This is one of my favorite villain songs. I personally would have made it longer by repeating a chorus and/or adding an instrumental break, but you did a great job.
All right. I got it. At 1:55, four drum beats, then burst into an escalating guitar piece backed by choir vocals, then slow down right as you approach the bridge.
Its a hard thing to out do Jim Cummings but holy crap did you ever hit the mark! I love how into you got with the expressions and raspy growls! That really sold it for me.
I imagine a demonic woman who just rose from the dead, plotting to kill a rival from when she was alive. During the song, she reverts in age, and becomes more human like, until she's a young adult. When it says "come my minions, rise for your master" another person rises, a young, disheveled man, similar in age to the woman. He sorta falls into her arms as the process of rotting works in reverse, as ravens fly above them, locating her rival
I love your music! My 4yo daughter is a metal head, and I know that your cover music is appropriate for her to listen to, plus I think you're an amazing singer :) Keep up the good work.
Songs I *need* to hear Jonathan Young cover, in no particular order: -"Mordred's Lullaby" by Heather Dale -"Feed Me" from Little Shop of Horrors (perhaps with Caleb Hyles as Seymour?) -"I'm Alive" from Next To Normal -"The Pitiful Children" from Be More Chill -"Razzle Dazzle" from Chicago
I was just randomly listening to this song while I'm looking through a different browsing tab and suddenly I hear "This is the part where I beg for money." HA good laugh
Epic is actually pretty appropriate, if used in its actual meaning. That is to say, using it to describe shit involving gods, heroes, monsters, the sacking of cities and the fates of nations.
Honestly, I was too. But I liked the slightly more realistic tone the musical took. Besides, the antagonist is actually really good and his songs give me chills every time.
