sorta a weird gripe from me, but i didn't notice anywhere in the video a shot of the whole board, only zoomed in areas. FYI be nice to judge the table presence
@MichaelZipkin
@MichaelZipkin 4 года назад
That’s not a weird gripe at all- I thought the exact same thing. We never see what the entire board looks like, it’s just a claustrophobic zoomed in view the whole time. Zoom out, Tom! Zoom out!

I am pretty sure they accidentally left out the in-depth components review. The "Components" title card was followed by more rules explanation. I assume that would've been when he showed a shot of the whole board.

@Dice Tower I think there was an editing error. The section after the "Components" title card had nothing to do with the components. You made a couple of comments about the components, but I think the in-depth components section was left out.

Gotta double check after editing. A lot of those lately. Thanks for the review.

A little too open for 2 players, and there isn't enough coins in circulation to be able to hire a lot of high-level trolls. At 3 players, it is Great! Have yet to try it at more than 3 players but the board being double-sided helps in keeping it real tight. I can even imagine going out of tunnel pieces at 5 players. Good resource management game, and building that troll pyramid feels really satisfying!

Starting at adjoining entrances can increase player interaction if that is your goal. You can choose any tunnel entrance, not necessarily the one closest to you. I've played it both ways and I like both options when it's just me and one other player. Since there isn't much hidden information, my wife and I can play sitting next to each other and start fighting for workshops almost immediately.

got this game just last week from kickstarter, and I most say I really like the style of game that it is. Even works really well with 2 players.

Having played this a few different ways, it's currently our group go to for 2 Vs 2, which this game is amazing at. Pair a player that loves area control to take lead in the tunnels and a euro gamer loving the resource generation and the game is absolute troll magic

This is my favourite way to play the game as well! It introduces some co-op aspects while still being competitive!

I wonder if Tom has tried the Champions mini expansion. I know how he loves asymetric powers and thats what the expansion adds. Those troll champions have some neat powers.

Got so many games these days, something really has to wow me to get it. This one just doesn't. More of the same, too many games being released.

I disagree, this game IS amazing, it blew me away and was by far the best euro I played last year. I found every aspect of the game interesting, not just the trollsmoot, really enjoyed the tile placement and spells as well. I'm so glad I got the fancy KS version, it's epic.

Kind of a cool song. Glad Tom threw some love to Savatage. I believe that's who sings that song.

I'm sure he's referring to the classical song. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kLp_Hh6DKWc.html

Doesn't a song need words? Isn't that what defines a song? I've never heard of Savatage before (but now I have-thank you). You can bet that they nicked that name from the Ibsen play, of which there is a the famous piece of incidental music of the same name.

I think their track Prelude to Madness is actually based on the classical piece Hall of the Mountain King but yeah, classic album :)

We're really liking this one. It has gone over well with everyone we've taught. One clarification, you can activate a workshop once for each connection, even if all the connected tunnels are not yours. You just need one connection to gain access.
@WendyGa
@WendyGa 4 года назад
That, and the numbers under the types of tunnel building materials are not how many you need but how many points you will score building that tunnel with that material (harder to obtain materials are worth more points when used). Great review though. And the troll resource cascade is a really cool design.

I've heard hiding the points like that is intended to keep those salty point watchers playing fairly till the end. Most people don't bother keeping track in their head, so there won't be any pressure of being a couple points behind, and there won't be any early GGs if they're not quite sure that they're definitely going to lose. Unless somebody has obviously taken a commanding lead, players will mentally be on the same playing field.

I wasn't expecting to like this game at first glance (don't care for the theme), but it was excellent! The cascading resource mechanic is really fun and interesting.

Several of the procedures slog the game down and make it extremely boring in the start of the game. Things don't pick up until the end of the game. I was excited to play this finally, but it needs work. We are already working on modifying the rules to pick things up. One of the items we changed was that at the start of your turn you can restock one troll even if you don't recruit a troll from the pile.

What song are you referring to? The most famous tune of this name is an orchestra piece. Original the incidental music for the play Peer Gynt by Henrik Ibsen, Grieg rearranged the piece for the final of his first PG suite: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mv4cx3C3SZ4.html

The little game pieces tested our dexterity to the point that it became annoying. Fiddly components.
@TylerHundley

As far as I'm aware, the point tokens are meant to be on the board face down, so other players only know you got a token, not how many points it was worth.
@AntoineLefebvr
@AntoineLefebvr 4 года назад
No it is clearly stated in the rules to put them face up. Shuffled face down then flipped when put on the board

@@AntoineLefebvr I stand corrected. I had only played a friends copy, we must've played wrong
@AntoineLefebvr

I believe that it is intended to keep players from scoring more than one pedestal per color ring in the mountain. The point tokens are randomly assigned, and only add a few points each.

I think it’s because they moved the seal of excellence to an 8.5. The game can be an 8 and get approved but not excellent doesn’t mean it’s a bad game

I get it that the colours are vibrant but where except on the artwork is this game beautiful? To me it's very abastract, mathy and deterministic. Your brooding over your move and if you make a mistake your out because you have to few actions in the game. It's like they took a great theme and sucked every theme and drama out of it.
