Doing both the VK and the skyrace in Tromsö. Because its not easy to train for that terrain when you live in the flatter part of Sweden.

I’m still trying to break the 1h00 for a VK :p In Madeira Island you have a few awesome VK with great tracks in the middle of pure forest! It’s quite steep, 1000mt of elevation in under 3900mt of distance.

i mean that‘s kind of expected, isn‘t it? no matter how fit you are you can always go towards your limit. it‘s just that his limit is incredibly far above the limit of normal snd even other fit people.

My vertical kilometer time is 43:36. WOW under 30 minutes. I don’t think i have what it takes to be an elite in trail running. But good video. Watching from the Philippines 🇵🇭⛰⛰

Wow! Super impressive! I haven't attempted a VK, but even doing the 2000 feet of ascent on the Manitou Incline in 30 minutes was really tough for me. I can't imagine how difficult it is to go under 30 minutes on an extra 1200 feet! I would think the best VK route would be some sort of super steep, sustained class 3-4 thing. That last "trail" looked pretty close to optimal.

Nice. Took me almost 6 hours to scale a kilometer mountains in the fjords. Even half that sounds ridiculous. A tenth is ludicrous by any measure.

Wow...just wow! No one can see how steep this really is from this video, but no doubt it will be very very steep. Kilian is not human...he is a machine 💥 This is the most incredible feat of human endurance you could ever see, to see Kilian out of breath at the end just shows how incredibly tough & steep the course was.

What an inspiration. Steep uphills are a special kind of torture, but when you get through them, the rest of the trail feels like such a relief! I'm curious what his heart rate was at 2:08 when he beat his PB. I wouldn't be shocked if it was 210+.

Even for someone as trained as him, he would still be limited by a maximum of roughly 220 - his age. It would be closer to 185 I would guess.

To gain 1000 meters of elevation in 28:40 requires 5.7 W/kg on average for almost half an hour, just to overcome the potential energy. In addition to that comes the energy needed to overcome other things. That is world class!
