'The relevance of the Bible for law and ethics in society today'
Department of Theology and Religious Studies
What was it about the Judeo-Christian ethic that led the West to develop market economics, democratic politics, human rights and the free society? The lecture looks at seven aspects of biblical ethics, each of which played a part in this development: human dignity, freedom and responsibility; an ethic of guilt rather than shame; the family as the matrix of virtue, love as the basis of ethics and covenant as the basis of society. It argues that all seven are currently under threat, and that the Bible remains an important voice in the public conversation about ethics and law.

not all english are born as equals under the flag. some are born royals also UK and especially London have many differen magical thinking - religions, we also have atheists and agnostics. We cannot accept a christian crowing ceremony of a king, because religion is personal. Kings can be baptized if they are 18 years old like all people, to be baptized is your personal right as an adult so you can be baptized. The coronation is a state act, so we must not mix religion in a state act. Human rights is not something to elect of to vote. De facto personal beliefs are personal. A modern state must base a legal system and evolve it with legal terms, not historical, religious but purely scientific, in order we have a fair system equal to all people. Magical thinking is a personal right, not a reason to chose one person as non elected master-king/queen manipulation the libic system needs of average people. Religion is biased interpretation of the word based on tradition, family culture or social ethics. We cannot define ethics of modern law with ancient terms but with the best regulations we can prove that work well after scientific analysis and method. The motto "dieu et mon droit" it illegal morally, and legal only because our legal system is incomplete. First of all we cannot allow a head of the state use god for matters of the commonwealth, also we cannot accept that all people accept god as monarchic protector, and even if the bible claimed that the British Isles must not be a Democracy, we still have no right to mix and mention god with state mottos. Where god mentions about birth rights and non equally born British people? What god? Why god? Religion is the basis of the British law? Is it strength to accept become a peer by someone of transferable authority or is it servility? The eternaly transferable authority havers always prefer to select non transferable authority peers. It is easier to control. Of course a king can abolish someones rights but that would cause unnecessary noise.
