This is so amazing--and I really, really want to thank you fro the bottom of my heart for dedicating yourself to this channel, & giving these lessons for free. I never thought I could learn this stuff, & like even if I could afford an instructor I wouldn't have known where to look for one. I feel like I've gotten hundreds of dollars worth of free lessons from your channel already, & you're even a better teacher than many that are out there! It's crazy that you put the sound from your pedals into the camera and it sounds this good. I'm currently studying audio engineering, and some of the projects I've heard this year aren't as well produced as this. Well done man, love the channel!!

Thanks. I think the compressor helped a lot but it still clipped in places, oh well. I know what to do next time. I have a jack to usb cable. I'm really glad I got it as it means I can carry the bare minimum around to record. Haha

Thanks :) I think it's more the direct sound clipping than having too much gain. I was only using a boost on a low setting. I will have to lower the input volume next time^^

Hey charlie. completely forgot to reply, sorry. I haven't got the best amp set up at the moment. There are many ways people would consider setting up a 'mathy' sound. I will get round to this at some point. some quick pointers though would be to use more mid than treble (like the sound Toe have) and to use single coil pickups and have them on the mid setting (between the bridge and neck) but this is all subjective of course^^

If you're gonna record again straight to your camera, I suggest you use a Cab Sim pedal in your chain to get rid of the fizzy sound. Great song nonetheless. Kudos!

I'd recommend you to listen to the band American football (if you don't already know them). It's a really nice place to start, the songs are gorgeous, easy to play, in odd time signatures. It's pretty much where everyone in emo and math rock starts. Learn never meant (it's like smoke on the water of emo/math rock) and then you can go on from there.

Man, I wish I had looked for a math rock community while in Korea. I loved Daegu when ever I went there. Played ultimate there a lot but never looked for fellow math rock friends. Have you found much Korean mathrock? I never looked hard enough for it when I lived in SK

It's awful... I gave it away. Didn't feel right taking money for it. Haha. If you're going for a cheao delay, I'd recommend getting a analogue one.

Awesome performance, can I purchase this somewhere? By the way, how can I stop my strings from ringing when tapping? Is it just making more use of palm muting or do I need specific gears?

Hey, thanks for the question. I personally think the tone isn't great in this video. I'm running through a bunch of pedals into a usb lead that is hooked up to my camera. I didn't do any post processing at all, ha. The vox flat 4 has a pre-amp tube init so that may help give it a warmer more realistic tone, the compressor is running pretty hard too because the volume clipped the input signal without it on. If it's a solid clean tone you are looking for then It's probably the compressor pedal that you may want to check out. I run my amp at almost breaking-up point and throw a compressor on, I think that sounds quite nice, like in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RVS8B-GwWxk.html

I got a 1/4 jack to USB cable and plugged from my pedals directly into my phone that I used as a camera. It kinda distorted the sound so you need to check the levels.

Haha. The two sides of mathrock chaotic and less chaotic more melodic, usually termed math pop. The latter is what I prefer too. Check out some of these bands of you haven't already. Hey since you live in Korea how is the rock scene there? Im into Korean music but I dont know many Korean bands because rock music seems to not be popular there.

It does exist! There's a large underground scene for sure, and there are some mainstream rock bands but they all tend to be old dudes that were famous when rock music was popular 20 to 30 years ago.
