Increase Lifespan by 9 to10 Years by Eliminating These 12 Risk Factors.
Eliminating risk factors can increase lifespan by a certain number of years. The number of years is different for men and women, but the overall impact of each risk factor is similar.
Smoking is the most impactful risk factor on lifespan.
If a man eliminates the risk of smoking, he increases his lifespan by 3.2 years. For women, it's 2.39 years.
High blood pressure is the second most impactful factor. If a man eliminates the risk of high blood pressure, he increases his lifespan by 2.5 years. For women, its 2.92 years.
Note for women, high blood pressure has a greater impact on lifespan than smoking.
The video covers the remaining 10 risk factors.
Implications for employer-sponsored health plans: It may be useful to list this chart of risk factors and years of lifespan in the open enrollment guide to show employees how much their health and longevity is impacted by their choices in smoking, diet and exercise.

Im surprised “working night shift as a nurse” is not a risk factor for shortened lifespan😅 (I’m a nightshift nurse)

I loved the video and your channel! I noticed that the numbers in the columns don’t add up to the totals you have below. I am guessing this is because of correlations amongst the various risk factors?

Correct. They do not add up. See the paper for how they calculated total risk. Link in description.

This guy rocks! Thank you for aligning personal habits with medical healthcare. By the way, you would be thrown out of the room in Germany if you told people over there to stop smoking. 😂

Do you know why numbers are different for men and women? It's interesting that how come high blood pressure is a higher risk for women than the men. Based on what are those different numbers between genders? Thank you

The combined effect is less than sum of parts.

Is sleep tied to longevity?
@ahealthcarez
@ahealthcarez 5 месяцев назад
Good question. It is not one of the risk factors directly… but sufficient sleep helps maintain a healthy body weight. Sleep deprivation can lead to increased stress hormones, which lead to weight gain and bad cholesterol.
