I used microrizal last year when I potted up my tomatoes and peppers and they had great root growth by the time I transplanted them. I didn’t use it this year and mine did fine but I really do think it gives them a boost. It can be expensive but a few are reasonably priced. In texas we plant peppers close so they shade each other. Also I used shad cloth and they grew beautifully under it all summer. I just draped it over the wire supports. I also adopted your fertilizer Friday lol
I think the mycorrhizal inoculant has helped my tomatoes and peppers too. I sprinkled it into the planting hole but now you gave me the idea to sprinkle some into my potting mix when I sow the seed. I don't pot up so that would be my chance to add some. You have convinced me to try shade cloth this summer. Do you use 40%?
@@JerrasGarden my peppers are in the blasting south west sun. I actually used two cloths and folded one in half to double up on the south side and the single layer on the north side. They did amazing. If yours have afternoon shade then I would only use a single 35% layer. I used a 35 & 45%. My tomato’s survived under 35%. I start my tomatoes and peppers in a 6 cell tray then when they sprout up I transfer to the red cup with the inoculant.

i mix up plant food on the weekends . so i don't forget. then i feel bad during the week if i see a plant struggling lol and you are right , pepper plants like warmer temps. my later transplants are doing much better than the earlier ones.
@@JerrasGarden thanks for the positive outlook but the old ones are actually gone. i imagine consumed by bugs. (or rabbits ) that's why i sprouted new ones.
I grow my peppers in 5 gallon grow bags and have been using small canes to support my pepper plants. The best method I have found is to use 3 canes per bag inserted equally close to the side of the grow bag then I bring the 3 canes together at the top, which is usually about 4 or 5 feet high, and secure the 3 canes together with wire or plastic ties. This allows me to use string tied to the canes for supporting the limbs with heavy bell peppers. I tried just using one cane near the middle of the bag but it got too cramped trying to support extended limbs with heavy peppers. The canes last several years and can be purchased at big box stores or harvested if you know where some canes are growing. It's best to use the small canes that are no larger than your finger. Another reason I use this method is to prevent the wind from blowing my pepper plants over. To accomplish this I support the very top of the canes where they are tied together with a small metal conduit run between tee posts. I enjoy watching your videos and always learn something. BTW, I ordered some of the Piracicaba seeds and I was delighted to see the number of seeds in each package. You gave a much better deal than any other seed vendor. Also I think the germination was close to 100%. They are really growing and can't wait to harvest from them. Take care.
Hi. Thanks for the idea I might have to try this out on one of my taller pepper plants (over 4FT). FYI I grow Piracicaba from fall, winter, and spring. Usually by May, its too hot and they bolt. Still thats a very long growing period compared to regular broccoli which dies by March in my garden. I think your in Gainesville per your user name? I’m going to try sweet red peppers 🌶️ in my small zone 10a garden next. It’s May 24th and it’s daily temps mid 90s and soil temps at 90. When should I start my pepper seeds in seed trays to get into the ground at the right time in the fall? Late July?
I have store bought green peppers growing in Fort Myers, zone 10a right now. The oldest plant has 8 green peppers on it. Well it just did. I took the 2 biggest off to make room just in case. This is the second round getting fruit growing on it. The 1st time was just 2 green peppers. I'm not sure if I was supposed to not let 8 grow at one time or not. The young 3 plants didn't appreciate the heavy rain couple days ago. Are you saying the peppers are fixing to stop giving me fruit?? I am growing in growing bags.
When temps get really high, 90F and above a lot of pepper varieties just stop flowering and shut down growth. If the plant survives summer, then it will start growing and producing again in fall. Hot peppers tolerate the heat a lot better or things like aji cachucha.
@JerrasGarden thank you so much for this information. Now I won't assume I did something wrong when it starts acting weird....and it is. Today, that older green pepper, which has peppers on it, is drooping and all of a sudden the fruit is soft and spongy feeling. My 1st thought was well now ya done and over watered her after all that rain. But I checked before I watered again. Next year, I'll have this info under my belt. My 2nd season with green peppers will be even better.

Hi Jerra, I live in central FL zone 10B. I purchased some crappy soil from a local landscaping store and nothing is growing in it. What can I add to fix this soil. Thanks.
What kind of soil was it? You would have to identify why its not that great to know what to add. Try a general purpose fertilizer to see if the plants perk up. I really like Espoma brand granular fertilizers.
@@JerrasGarden Hi Jerra, it's supposed to be organic soil with manure and peat but it looks just like regular mulch. I recently added compost and worm castings and planted so seedlings to see if that helps. I'm really ticked off because it was expensive and I lost alot of time waiting on the seeds to germinate. Now I'm playing catch-up. Ugh!

So if I'm using jiffy pot cell holders and the directions read cover pods loosely with peat but didn't mention anything about watering the peat after wards, am I ok leaving it dry or should I water anyways?
I dont use peat pods, but I am pretty sure your supposed to soak them in water before sowing the seeds. If you didnt, gently soak them with the misting setting.
