Today I'm looking at the most unconventional of daily driven cars - an incredible Jaguar C-Type replica, built on a kit by Realm. Featuring a genuine 3.4L Jaguar straight six, this thing looks and sounds the business. Come with me on a tour of some beautiful Scottish roads as I talk about this wonderful machine.

Kudos to the owner for 1) using it 2) giving it enough power to enjoy,but not scare the s**t out of you 3)using jaguar parts for the running gear 4) sharing it with James and thus with us all.

Not normally a fan of replica cars. However, when done like this I rather like. Using as close as reasonably possible to the genuine engine, Jag running gear etc to approximate the real deal. Unlike those that stick a Ferrari body on an old MR2 or Z3.

@@BillyBoy444 bro, its a youtube comments section. and when i think of a kit car i am definitely not thinking a caterham. maybe its just me. and tbh bro, you can build a car from scratch that's not a "kit" but is still a replica

Or having the "real thing". This could easily be more fun to drive than the original? Less to worry about crashing it. I always say, don't spend too much on a car, depending on what can afford. Or it becomes a liability. Can enjoy motoring at any price, really! 0-60 is nothing these days, too fast!

Another fine if brief episode, in Scotland no less. It's elicited my second YT post in some ten years. Rewind to 93/94 I imported to Seattle area a continuation if that's what a Proteus C-Type is referred to. Created to a rigid spec in Ecurie Ecosse team blue (Flag blue with roundels) hand wrought all-alloy body on a 'to spec' tub and space-frame, largely period-correct. Dunlop cross-ply. One door. Absent..wipers, heater, top, side glass, boot lid, cup holders, carpet, insulation, you get the picture. My mate had ordered one six months earlier, the pair being a presence whenever they appeared. His ran 3.8L with three DCOE45 Webers, mine 'correct' with 1.75" SU pair on a C-type spec 3.4L head. Two instances on a deserted highway we tested ourselves as much as their performance: 0-100 mph I bested him, beyond that I saw taillamps. Later, inquiring minds and all that, ts was unavoidable, he indicated 147 mph, my 3.4L @143 indicated. Wind blasting your head impacted vision. It made staying on point 'challenging'. Moss and Hamilton had neck muscles developed to compensate! A necessity I suggest to improve the drive and handling, ditched the wandering cross-plies in favor of vintage, first edition $$ Pirelli Cinturato radials. These made the C-Type a willing dancer. C-Type attire was not optional: leather drovers coat, close-fit leather head cover, neck gaiter, gloves with wrist gaiters; foremost important: correct two-plane shatterproof eye protection (UK sourced naturally) Most memorable trip was CA Hwy 1 along the west coast to an XKs Unlimited event: C-Types live in 'stereo', October sun, your favorite female companion, Bixby bridge, Big Sur, so many turns, exhaust echoing off the mountains rising from the immediate Pacific depths, thousand miles each way! Glorious. Evidently the interstate trucker convoys enjoyed our progess. On the return leg northward next morning we were 'escorted' by CHP in large part out of Cali from Redding to the Oregon border...

Absolutely love these cars so much so when retirement from commerce loomed I promised myself a Suffolk SS 100 and a Suffolk C type to play with. However the mechanic that looks after my vehicles informed me of the new 8 point registration system that had newly been instigated and was being aggressively inforced which at the time was proving a major issue on registering these cars on anything but a Q plate with the further complication as they are old engines would fail a modern MOT on emmisions and furthermore would have thus incurred hefty L.E.M. and Congestion charges even if passed. So I've blown the dosh on debauchery instead.

Rather better than some of the appalling creations that have appeared over the years! At least it looks like a C-Type.Saw a Ronart W125 in a pub car park recently;these are modelled to look a bit like the Mercedes Gp racers with Jaguar 6 or 12 cylinder power. Yes it,s always an Audi diesel for some strange reason not forgetting White-Van-Man of course!

You lucky lucky bastard! A few years back I was over from Oz for a holiday and we spent a night in a Yorkshire village if I recall. We drove out of town to a pub for dinner. There parked behind the pub in a carpark was a BRG C-Type Jag. I wondered over for a gander (a look) and what an excellent 'copy' it was. I noticed a man looking at me from a table of diners and as I walked past, I made the comment was it yours? He said yes and once he recognised my Aussie accent, said this car was driven by one of my compatriots in competition, the notable Frank Gardner. It wasn't a copy but the real deal! He later left the pub in it with his young son in the passenger seat.

Ace machine! Unless I missed it. you didn't mention anything about a hood or anything, though in one photo I could see there was a leather cover that goes over the passenger compartment, so I assume on a rainy day you just have to wrap up warm and wear some sort of face covering to keep out of the rain? I used to live on the outskirts of Edinburgh and it gets very wet and very cold there during the winter months, so Fife is probably a lot worse? How does Matt cope with that? One thing that also crossed my mind, was how do you go on with there not being roll-over hoops to protect your head should you (God forbid) turn the thing over, I would have thought you would not be able to get the car MOT'd if it didn't have this sort of safety feature, it being a recent car rather than an actual C Type?
@JayEmmOnCars
@JayEmmOnCars 3 года назад
I don't believe an MOT checks for safety hoops - the car is IVA'd anyway, so if it passes that then it's good. Fife apparently is the least rainy county in Scotland, or most sunny, one of the two. But yeah - if it's cold and wet he just dresses appropriately!

Well it's an XK engine and if it's a 3.4 it's almost certainly out of a 70's or 80's XJ6 as that would be the cheapest option. I doubt it's the earlier version of the 3.4 XK engine just because the cars that's fitted in to are less likely to be donor cars. Not impossible of course.

Problem with F type. A fast one is too expensive Turbo S money. A cheap one is an underpowered V6. The old XJS and XK were luxurious, cheap V12 but not as quick as competitors. The F type is sharp but. No one wants a slow on but no one will pay for fast one.
@another3997
@another3997 3 года назад
The notion that a V6 F Type is underpowered, is quite frankly ridiculous. What exactly, in terms of road driving, can't it do? If you're only interested in the numbers printed on a page so you can impress gullible people and massage your ego... well, there are always people who have 'better' numbers than you. If you are actually interested in driving, those numbers mean very little. The measure of a car isn't that simple.
@watchfan6180
@watchfan6180 3 года назад
A Nother You got me. I drive a Toyota Yaris from 2018. However if you watch Jay Em review of the V6 Jag F type and how it is engineered in comparison to the top of the line F type you will understand. If you don’t believe me the sales figures speak for themselves. I hardly see the Ftype on road. Not enough bang for buck or smiles per mile. They are all out buying other cars for the same money. Having said that the F type is a great looking car. Maybe it would of been more successful as a XF coupe lower down money scale, with a big bad boy turbo on.
