The lyric is a poem by Robbie Burns a Scottish poet of the 17 or 18 hundreds. He was a bit of a "rapscallion."

Thank you Thomas for bringing this to Harri's attention. I couldn't believe what I was hearing the first time. It's "ridiculous" that she sounds that good on this type of song. I'm not usually a fan of classical style music but this is one I listen to regularly. She never ceases to amaze me. btw, I too love that violin esp. at the end. Thanks Harri

Great reaction. Here is The composers description: "Song for A is the only song on the album. It is performed by Angelina Jordan, a very young and very talented singer. I needed a bright final for my instrumental album. After the series of cold hells and Melting itself I longed for a song of a liberated soul, a soul that was set free from suffering. So, I remembered a beautiful poem by Robert Burns^ and wrote this song especially for Angelina. And she gave a sensual performance."

I think this is to be ascribed to Angelina's masterpieces, where she demonstrates her innate talent as a narrator in singing a poem written at the end of the 18th century. And I think the composer Nico Cartosio chose it for this very reason. Besides her voice, which is like silk here. And there is only the music, you are not distracted by Angelina's charismatic beauty.

Pretty sure you know now why Nico chose Angelina to sing on this song...the only one on his instrumental Album with vocals. Pure vocal gold. This young lady never ever disappoints no matter what genre of music it might be. Thank you for doing this song from Angelina that rarely gets played since it is not a "pop" genre but just pure music artistry.

This song's lyrics is based on a poem from Robert Burns; "Auld Lang Syne" is also Robert Burns. Rigs is equivalent to ridges; Angelina allows us to visualize the lyrics simple beauty in its truest form. Consumate performance in my opinion. Thank you for this reaction; stay safe 👍🏽❤️👏

I’m just beside myself listening to this young and brilliant artist. She’ll have more recorded music soon, than Joe Bonamassa, a record holder himself. But seriously, Joe I think has over 20 albums, of his own music, Angelina is just starting. Joe was accomplished like Angelina at age 12, played with Lots of premier guitarists, and now Joe fills stadiums and show halls, like Angelina will in a few short years.

“Tibetans believe: there are eight cold hells where souls of sinners will freeze forever after death, - tells Nico Cartosio. - But there are also eight cold hells here, on Earth. And we’re sent there by ourselves. Depression, arrogance, wrath, lack of love - all these things freeze our souls. But even from the bottom of the deepest and the coldest of hells do we hear the music of our hearts still hot”. The composer Nico Cartosio album “Melting” has 8 arrangements that takes the listener through many stages of the human soul from depression to coldness to destruction then hope and freedom. The music is very dark however the last track represent the hope, love, and freedom at the end. Nico Cartosio wanted a vocalist to present his last track and he chose Angelina to deliver it. It is the only piece of music on the album that is accompanied by a vocalist. The result is a masterpiece. The lyrics of the song are adapted from the 1782 poem Rigs O’Barley (Ridges of Barley in modern English) by Robert Burns. Thank you for your reaction.

The album "Melting" is the debut album of Nico Cartosio, a russian neo-romantic composer suddenly rising to stardom by his music videos of the compositions that eventually became parts of this album. It was recorded in the Abbey Road Studios and consists of eight movements describing the human soul frozen in the eight Tibetan hells, which - like the Nordic hells - are cold. (Warmth was something you longed for in the North, unlike in the Southern countries where the heat could be a torment, thus associating hell with fire!). In the ninth movement the ice and snow is melting the soul, giving it the relieved freedom celebrated in "Song for A". Some believe the title refers to Angelina, but it may be more complex than that: There are at least four possibilites, and there is no reason to settle for only one of them. - 1) There is Angelina - 2) There is Annie, the girl in the song - 3) Someone has said that this is a song for Anybody - thus making it universal - 4) Nico Cartosio tells that the piece "Melting" showed itself in his mind one day he was accompanying a Roman girl in the Pantheon when the snow began to fall through the dome. There is nothing said about the name of this girl, but could it start with "A"? The whole album is well worth listening to where the theme of the violin in "Song for A" - perhaps representing the liberated soul (?) also is the main theme of the 3rd movement "Snow above the Earth". The violin part is played by John Mills. Angelina was wanted by the composer to do the vocal part, and listening to the result, we can see why!

She sings in English! That's her third language. You know she's from Norway. There, everyone speaks Norwegian. From the age of 6, Angelina read and sing English texts and understand what everything means! She is amazing in many ways.

Harri, thanks for another great reaction to this beautiful song by the Barefoot Angel. This is a long comment in order to show that Angelina’s pronunciations and spelling are not wrong as some reactors have claimed in the past. What I present below is from a book I read in my poetry class at a university. Book Title: The Songs of Robert Burns (edited by Donald A. Low) Chapter 7 Title: It was upon a Lammas night Tune: Corn rigs My Notes: there is also a music sheet in the book. The poem has 36 lines, 6 octave stanzas and a four line chorus, in double common measure. There is also a music sheet in the book. Please note that Angelina’s version includes some modified lyrics which I have indicated in [brackets] below. I believe the modified words make the song more melodious and familiar to the modern English speaking audience. At the end of the poem the author gives these definitions for some words: Lammas = harvest season; rigs = ridges; gear = money, possessions; fairly = indeed It was upon a Lammas night, When corn rigs are bonie [lovely], Beneath the moon’s unclouded light, I held awa [away] to Annie: The time flew by, wi’ tentless [with careless] heed, Till ‘tween the late and early [‘till between the dark and dawn], Wi’ sma’ [with small] persuasion she agreed, To see me thro’ the barley. Author’s Explanation: Who Annie was is not known for certain, but the youngest daughter of John Rankine, a farmer in Burns’s [Burn’s] neighborhood, subsequently claimed that she was the subject of the song. The sky was blue, the wind was still, The moon was shining clearly; I set her down, wi’ [with] right good will, Amang [among] the rigs o’ [of] barley: I ken’t [knew] her heart was a’ my ain [all my own,]; I lov’d [loved] her most sincerely; I kiss’d [kissed] her owre and owre again [over and over again], Amang [among] the rigs o’ [of] barley. But by the moon and stars so bright, That shone that night [hour] so clearly! She ay [aye] shall bless that happy night, Amang [among] the rigs o’ [of] barley. I hae [have] been blythe wi’ [with] Comrades dear; I hae [have] been merry drinking; I hae [have] been joyfu’ gath’rin gear [joyful gathering money]; I hae [have] been happy thinking [thinkin]; But a’ [all] the pleasures e’er [ever] I saw, Tho’ three times doubl’d [doubled] fairly, That happy night was worth them a’ [all], Amang [among] the rigs o’ [of] barley. CHORUS: (is not part of AJ’s song) Corn rigs, an’ barley rigs, An’ corn rigs are bonie: I’ll ne’er forget that happy night, Amang the rigs wi’ Annie. Also the following lines are not part of the song: I lock’d her in my fond embrace; Her heart was beating rarely: My blessings on that happy place, Amang the rigs o’ barley!

@Thomas Allerup I know there is a common belief that Song for A is dedicated to Angelina. However, I haven't seen where the composer or Angelina stated that. I believe that the A referred to is Annie mentioned in the fourth line of the song. Please correct me if I am wrong. Either way, it doesn't take away from what is one of my favorite performances of Angelina's.

Hi Debbie. Try posting it again. There's a strange youtube glitch occurring in some of the threads that's not allowing some posts to show up to other people. It's hit and miss with some posts for some reason. I just looked for your post in the September thread and it's not showing up. However, when I clicked on "Sort by" then chose "Newest First" in the dropdown menu, and then scrolled down through the comments, then I was able to see it! I had this same problem with my posts in the community section last month in the August thread and again this month in the September Thread . Harri was kind enough to inform me a couple of times that he couldn't see my post after I inquired. I could see my post, just like you can see your post but nobody else can see it unless they reset the "Sort By" button to "Newest First". I noticed it happened with a couple of other people as well. So, what I did was I reposted again and asked for Harri to "heart" the comment so I know he could see it. I currently have another post I posted a day ago that I'm waiting to see if he "hearts' it for me so I know my request list is visible to him. Anyway, Debbie if you'll repost your comment once again in the September thread, I'll take another look and let you know if it shows up this time without me having to do the "sort by" option to see it. Then I'm sure he will see it ok. I personally think the best way to avoid missing anyone's post is just to regularly click the "sort by" button and choose "Newest first" then scroll down and look at the comments.

Probably every traditional Scots & Irish band has their own version of "Corn Rigs and Barley Rigs" based on the Robert Burns poem, but this arrangement made for Angelina is certainly the most beautiful. The song is traditionally set to a dance tune. It was used in the cult classic horror film from 1973, The Wickerman. Here's a typical version by Ossian: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-AoszNAGmPuQ.html Thanks for the reaction.
