David Gilmour said this a story of his life. I went to the Pulse tour in 1994 at the Rose Bowl here, and when they played this song, it was pure magic. The crowd of 90,000, was silent. Amazing.

The lyrics are just epic… "Looking beyond the embers of bridges glowing behind us, to a glimpse of how green it was on the other side." Just awesome. Polly Samson, David Gilmour's wife, who wrote a lot of lyrics for the album "The Division Bell", did an absolutely great job here. Also, David Gilmour is The Guitar God, whether it's an electric, slide or acoustic guitar. No one can play like David Gilmour, with such emotion.

This album is so damn unappreciated on the text level just because Walters ain't a part of it. For me it's just as good as any of their other stuff, if not better than some. And I'm not biased because it was the first PF album I've listened and it started my journey with them.

This song is from the point of view of an aging man reflecting on his life with his band mates who were brothers before ego destroyed their friendship. It’s a shame that the rift between Rodger Waters and David Gilmore will probably never be repaired, and Richard Wright has passed, so it most likely will never be repaired. That’s what makes this song so sad to me. The emotional guitar solo just adds to the emotion.

You guys nailed it. Your interpretation of the song was spot on. It’s about growing up and loosing the “wonder and magic “ that was childhood and the early teen years……when “anything was possible”. And yes……the guitar and instruments at the end part perfectly match the emotion the lyrics are describing. For a long time Comfortably Numb and On the Turning Away, we’re fighting to be my favourite PF song…….then I heard this song and it instantly became my all time favourite. The “emotion in that guitar solo brings tears to my eyes. The nostalgia is overwhelming. Great job, as usual.❤️

If sad nostalgia had a sound... It's like a funeral dirge, solemnly marking the death of childhood innocence, and youthful exuberance oh so long ago.

Always love watching you guys react to Pink Floyd. They are by far my favorite band. But please, please you have to do the live versions from The PULSE concert. You will be blown away. Sorrow, Comfortably Numb, High Hopes and Run Like Hell just to name a few.

This is one of the greatest songs of all time, it's a real story. AWESOME! There is nothing that beats this! But... There is a cover that comes close. Check out Nightwish's live cover of this (I think they were at Wembley?). It's the closest and has to be THE BEST cover of this song that anybody has done. Nothing beats the original obviously. Nightwish's version is sort of a re-imagining, it's very different but still recognizable as this AMAZING song. :)

Listen to great gig in the sky. It’s about the 5 stages of grief when someone dies. No words, just a great woman singing. It’s awesome. They told her to just sing how the music made her feel. She did it in one take. She is amazing. Listen to the song, not the live version because the live has 3 women singing different parts and don’t do the original justice.

She did it in 2 takes & started a 3rd take. Then she told them she couldn’t do better than the 2nd take, which is the one they used. Her interview is on RU-vid. ✌🏼
