It's been 30 years but I still remember the nail biting finish. Amazing how time flies and changes. Most of the Pak- India encounters in those days were one sided. People say that Indian Cricket is now way ahead of Pakistan but I say that Indian Cricket is very much the same in terms of their good batting line-up. However, Pakistani bowling is not the same as it used to be.

But Indian side has changed completely now, usme confidence agya he, starting from Dada captaincy, team started fighting, spirit was developed and Indian cricket witnessed remarkable changes in its approach and performance.
This was the period when waqar was at peak before first stress fracture. Those who saw or faced him believe that he was perhaps the quickest ever in this period. Absolutely devastating.
Pakistan team was very strong in 90s till 2003.They had wasim waqar shoib akhtar saqlain mushtaq azhar Mehmood in the bowling line up and inzamam saeed anwar yusuf yohanna abdul razzaq Shahid afridi yunus Khan in the batting and they dominated against India. It's fact and their winning percentage is very high that time. But after 2003 world cup Indian team very strong team till time and dominating world cricket

There is a difference Sudeep, Prabhakar was more of a bowler and less of a batsman whereas Kanitkar was exactly opposite. You can't expect much from tailender especially tailenders like Prasad who didn't even know how to hold the bat. Prasad's realised that he was a batsman only after Agarkar displayed some heroics on the field and won almost a lost match against Sri Lanka with his bat.
I remember this match. There was not sufficient light when these overs were bowled. That was the headline in many news papers next day. With insufficient light that too face Wasim and waqar was an impossible job. Still INDIA did well. Had it been this era BCCI would have ripped off Icc to take strong step against the umpires and Organisers.

This was the time when Indian players, especially Kiran More, was worst than a handicapped player. He cudn even visibly hold the bat, to indicate, that he is capable of hitting a six. Pathetic tailender players India had that times.
Shoaib Akhter is overrated, it’s true he was fast but stats wise he wasn’t as good as many other we had Wasim, Waqar, Imran, Mohammed Zahid, AQib Javed, Mohammed Asif , Mohammed Amir. If you don’t know Mohammed Zahid was fastest ever but he had spine injury Shoaib was not even close to that guy. Shoaib took too much risk using steroids and gym and he muscled up for war, due to this his career didn’t last longer.
sharjah was almost a home ground for pak as such the organisers always favoured Indias opponents be it the ground conditions or the umpiring . The very fact says in all worldcup fixtures India has won against pak.Only sharjah was a trouble spot......

Yes expectation rises from a player who is very technically sound and have the capability to do something extraordinary. Sanjay Manjerekar was such a player at one time when compared with other great players. He could have achieved more and more but unfortunately he have not finished that place at end which was expected from him.

Just look at the way we were batting.. as if we are terrified.. no level of international cricket.. no idea who the fuck were our selectors.. also in the last over when our requirement was 12 runs, we were just trying to take singles.. what kind of cricket was this.. no sense at all.. I many a times feel that we didn't deserve to be in international cricket that time.. were lucky that in 83 we got World Cup may be just because of Kapil or few other players like him, rest all were good for nothing.. in a densely populated country like India where almost every kid knows how to bat, we weren't able to find 11 better cricketers.. shame on our cricket board..

Against 2 Ws it was nearly impossible those days to score more than a run a ball while chasing. Especially Waqar was exceptional when defending under such situations. Don't know why Indians are making fun of Manjrekar. I believe he was a pretty good ODI player. Here also he played a very good knock. Manjrekar & Dravid have been 2 very underrated Indian ODI batsmen.

Before that he was certainly the greatest. Secondly great bowlers being hit for runs in last over has been a Norm since decades. Imran khan hit the great Garner for 3 consecutive sixes in 85. Wasim Akram hit McGrath for 23 runs in 2002 Brisbane. Razzaq scored 50 in 3 overs of McGrath & Gillespie in Nairobi plus 5 consecutive boundaries of McGrath in Aus. Brett Lee scored 27 in an over of Donald in 2002. Basit Ali absolutely murdered Ambrose & Co at their prime. What did S Anwar/Sohail did with Kumble in that same match. I can go on and on and on... That day even Srinath & Kumble got boundaries of Waqar in his last 2 overs, not only Jadeja. So it was a bad day for Waqar. In fact only his last 2 overs. For the first 8 overs he gave only 27 runs & Azhars wicket. Which was brilliant considering that WC was a nightmare for fast bowlers. From McGrath to Akram everyone failed.
Cannot imagine any team playing with that kind of light. I read somewhere that towards the last 5-6 overs the cameras showed even the street lights were on, that how dark it was getting in the evening when India was made to play.

They have the most number of 300+ totals ever in odis. When you give the example of just one match where they failed to chase 240+ its been done hundreds of other times it clearly shows how poor you are in statistics Maths. Highly recommend you take a course in that.
