Its interesting to read peoples comments here and how they feel that the colonizers across the seas are much better their own kith and kin. It only took few hundred years to make people feel that they are special compared to the rest of the sub-continent. Brasil which was a colony does not recognize itself or support Portugal anymore (even though they speak the language), but the Goans do. The Goans have to learn from Pondicherrians where both India and France are considered home. Wherever you go you will always be recognized as Indian and not Portuguese. It is one thing to be proud of being different from the rest of India and another to dismiss and insult the country which is your family, whether you like it or not.

This is really beautiful! But does any body who were those royal Maratha looking Hindus in the photographs? Its really exciting to see the photographs of the Goa during Portuguese times, one of those territories that went through a complete different colonial experience for such a long time than most of rest of the India (except French territories and even Danish territory to some extent)
The royal hindus you are refering to was the King of Sundém (Raja of Sunda) and his wives.This Raja lived in Goa under the protection of portuguese authorities.The familly went to Goa during the invasions led by Hyder-Ali of their territories in Karnataka and In return for the Portuguese generosity, the Soundekars offered them four territories they held, namely Ponda, Sanguem, Quepem and Canacona (presently all of them are sub districts in central and southern Goa). These later formed part of new conquest (novas conquistas) of Portuguese India. That wasn’t the only time the Soundekar’s were dispossessed of their land. The clan lost ownership of huge chunks of real estate after India liberated Goa from the Portuguese in 1961 and the subsequent implementation of the populist Land to the Tiller Act. But in spite of the losses, they still have large properties in Sanguem, Quepem and Canacona sub districts.
Agree. We should never have invited Portugal to help us to drive away the adilshah and other Muslims. We should have had fought ourselves. Now we called the Indians to fight the Portuguese and are now stuck with Indian Corruption. There is no place for honesty in the Indian domain. A corrupt mind is a pre-requisite.

Goans belong to the Indian sub Continent - not the Indian Nation. The Indian Nation has no right over Goa. So we may be Indians but not Indian Nationals.
