The Dzungars invaded Lhasa in November of 1717 and killed Lha-bzang Khan of Khoshut Khanate in the first place. In 1718 October, Kangxi Emperor started to send military to Tibet to expel the Dzungars, and in 1720, the Dzungars were expelled. Khoshut Khanate formally became part of Qing in 1654, seal of authority and golden sheets were granted in that year by China, and Güshi Khan immediately expressed his gratitude: “皇上勝過締造萬物之如意寶，布仁慈於四海之濱；揚善抑惡，以足眾生之望。蒙天恩賞賜金冊、金印，封為遵行文義慧敏顧實汗，謹望闥跪接祗領，叩謝天恩。” For the Dalai Lama, following the tradition of granting seal of authority from the Central Government starting right from the first (3rd) Dalai Lama in Ming Dynasty (1587), in 1720, the seaI of authority was also granted for the 7th Dalai Lama.
