INDIAN Couple Reacts to Royal Marines Beating Retreat 2018 

Beating Retreat is a military ceremony dating to 17th-century England and was first used to recall nearby patrolling units to their castle.

This is a recreation of the troops in an army marching back to the barracks or other base at the end of the day. The drummers 'beat the retreat' to march the soldiers home. It is now done annually as part of the sovereign's birthday parade. The Royal Marines band here is marching through London to the Knightsbridge barracks from Horseguards Parade.

This massed band is based around the UK 5 separate bands that make up the massed bands. Two of the bands are based in the Naval port cities of Plymouth and Portsmouth. Plymouth and Portsmouth have long and proud associations with the Royal Navy and the Marines.

The flags that are lining the street are commonwealth countries flags . . . The USA flag you thought you saw was actually that of Malaysia . . . a common mistake by many reactors who don't now what this military parade is usually about. There are a lot of videos (old and new) on YT about Beating Retreat, Trooping The Colour at Horseguards, marching and playing while coming down the Mall or on the Birdcage - all worth a watch if it interests you at all. I ENJOYED YOUR REACTION TO WATCHING THE ROYAL MARINES BAND. I HAVE WATCHED THIS MANY TIMES, NOT YET HAVE I BEEN ABLE TO KEEP MY FEET STILL. IT IS A MUSICAL RETREAT MARCH FROM BATTLE.

I think the reason/need to display in this way is for several reasons, they are the British military and many people see the military of whatever country as being there to protect that countries interests, but when a military is not being used for their primary reason then they have to show that they can perform other tasks too, I think that showing that you are capable of giving help to those in need say if there is a natural disaster (flooding and the like) the military are there to help in ways that most people wouldn't be able to, we just wouldn't have the machinery and physical strength which soldiers have, but they are used to working together as a team on a grand scale while people like myself, I can work with others, but in small groups and just general help such as cooking a meal for a few people and making drinks, while the military can mobilise grand rescue missions and the like because they train at working together in coordinated large groups and have the equipment and ability to do this type of thing :) Very enjoyable indeed, I recall the Royal Marine drum corps and the top secret Royal Marine drums playing together indoors at a concert hall but I can't remember where, I'm sure that you will be mightily impressed by their display of drumming and professionalism, a very entertaining watch 😊

Not a fan of the reaction. The guy doesn't look interested and at times seems to ridicule the ceremony.
