As a proud Scotsman myself, this makes my heart swell with pride :)

My Grandad was the oldest drum major in the UK when he passed away he was still marching with the black watch association pipe band stoke on trent branch aged 90!

As a Yorkshire man, there is nothing better than seeing and hearing my friends to the north

The Royal Mile in Edinburgh, Scotland the queens crown (in the maroon car) was being taken from the castle which IS very old, 900 years old to be a bit more precise to Holyrood. It happens each year. Please tell them that.

Yay bagpipes! I love them. I'll bet they'd like to see a Highland Games competition, too. I'm glad they enjoyed them, and I notice no one complained about the sounds the pipes produced. Good on them. I think it's a magnificent sound.

Great stuff. I really enjoyed this. The three guys here made some very astute observations. The whole time I was reading the subtitles of their reactions and watching them I was smiing as I was thinking of my father (a Scotsman) who spent six years in India back in WW2, who learnt local languages, and who made so many cine films at that time and told us children so many stories about India and its various peoples. If you get the chance, please convey my warm greetings to the villagers.

A thing us Scots share with you is a love of Indian cuisine. Glasgow is one the curry capitals of Europe.

I have Scottish ancestry! My last name is very Scottish. Gosh I love the bagpipes. I really really do. During the pandemic lockdowns, there was a bagpiper wandering the neighbourhoods of my city alone, playing his pipes, to give everyone a little bit of cheer. 😊👍

I’m be if my relatives of 18 was a Gordon Highlander in WW1 who died just after his 18th birthday at the Battle of Mons. He wrote a very moving letter to his Mother 2 weeks before he died, which I have kept. I always find the massed bands very moving.

I'm surprised that they didn't identify the bagpipes. The Indian Army also uses bagpipes in some of their bands. They can be seen/heard in all their military parades.

Once I was in a kilt, prince charlie jacket, sporran etc close to the Royal Mile where that was filmed and a load of tourists started taking photos of me. I really had to resist the temptation to turn around and moon them.

My sister was in a couple pipe bands growing up, Sprigs O'Heather and the White hackle, i remember the family taking her to SPBA summer school at Fort San, i was never in so much awe at the skilled pipers and drummers, my sister won many awards, she could play bag pipes crazy good, at the end of every summer school they would have a mass march of all the students on the beautiful grounds outside, i still remember and am blown away by the memories, literally gave you chills to see that many marching and playing in unison. Captivated me as a young child of maybe 13 or so.

The guy in red was so funny when he noticed the Scotsmen in kilts (no pants), and the bagpipes were like hookahs!! Bahaha (I am Scottish descendent, by the way)

To quickly explain a few things. for 2:20, the cape worn by the Band of the Royal Regiment of Scotland are called feathered bonnets. They look like hair because they are actually made out of Ostrich feathers. They are mainly worn by drummers and pipers. For 4:44, the skirts are called kilts, and yes they are wearing stuff underneath (but in ancient times they wore nothing underneath 😉). The Kilt is a symbol of honor and pride in Scotland and it was used to identify which clan you belonged to (similar to a knights crest adorned on his shield). In Scotland, Kilts were favored over trousers because Scotland is known for its rainy weather and muddy terrain. Ancient forms of trousers would have been useless and did little to protect wearers from the cold and rain. Kilts allowed better freedom of movement and since they were made of wool, they acted as a good barrier against rain and mud. Additionally, during night time, the kilt could be unwrapped to be used as a blanket. Today, the tradition of wearing kilts has become a national symbol of Scotland. Note: Never call it a skirt, or else a Scottish man or woman will get angry at you or even strike you with their fist. For 9:56, The caps worn by the Queens Royal Guard (the soldiers in red) are made from black bear belts, specifically Canadian black bears. The caps can weigh between 4-8 pounds or 2-4 kilograms, which puts a lot of stress on the guards shoulders (This is why you never mess with the Queens guard since they literally have to carry around a 4-8 pound weight on their head). The caps are a symbol of the British victory over Napoleon during the battle of Waterloo in 1815. The French military under Napoleon wore these bearskin caps as a badge of status and to look more intimidating in battle. After the battle, the British captured these hats and adopted them to show that they had beaten the French. Today, the Queens Guard continue to wear bearskin caps in remembrance of that victory. To any Scotsman, Scotswoman, or Brit in the comments, I apologize if I got anything wrong and please feel free to comment on anything.

Being a Scotsman myself the sound of bagpipe gives me goosebumps, the sense of pride a Scot has is unmatched. Love watching these videos, you guys should react to Scottish snacks/food (Irn Bru, shortbread, teacakes, haggis etc)

Edinburgh has a magical quality to it. I'm not Scottish, but I get a thump in my throat when I hear the bagpipes.

I enjoyed thus my great grandmother is of Scottish origin her maiden name was Straughan, her side came to Canada in the 1830s, hearing bagpipes is music to my soul. Thank you

I'm not Scottish but Galizian, we also have bagpipes here but the Scottish bagpipe sounds more awesome and full because they have 3 "ronquetas" (I don't know the word in English) and Galizian bagpipes only have one. Bagpipes are common in places that had celtic roots

Few people know, but versions of bagpipes are allover Europe wherever there are mountains (almost wherever). But Scotts are the most famous and proud of that instrument. I wish more nations were as proud of theirs.

My Mum was stationed at The Castle 1949-1951, then the Royal Army shipped her off to Singapore, where she met my father on a blind date and married him and move to the States. I have walked everywhere these guys are walking! Love Edinburgh!

The "fort" in the background is Edinburgh Castle which dates from 12th century. In the car was the ancient crown of Scotland which was being taken from the Castle where it is kept to be presented to the Queen at the state opening of the Scottish parliament.

The Scottish soldiers always show strength and look ready to protect their country. I'm so glad to have them as our neighbouring country. If they had independence I hope they still consider England as friends.

I actually play the snare drum in a drum and bagpipe band…. These gentlemen don’t really understand how loud a bagpipe really is.These types of bands have been marching in the United States for over 60 years❤✌🏽☮️🤲🙏🥁

My State University System has had a Scotland study abroad program just outside Edinburgh for almost 40 years, and I spent the best semester of college there many years ago. I loved seeing the march down the Royal Mile through this group of gentlemen's eyes for the first time, without pre-conceived notions. I especially loved the observations they were making, in that most pointed out variations on what they see in their own culture. There are really so many ways we are all alike, and it's a blessing to appreciate the way another culture does the same basic things. Love it!

The young man in the car is the escort to the Crown. The Crown usually resides in Edinburgh Castle alongside the other Crown Jewels of Scotland. Whenever the Monarch arrives in Scotland, either to the Scottish Parliament or to Holyrood Palace in Edinburgh, the Crown is sent to her/him under escort and is only returned to the Castle oin the departure of the Monarch.

LOL Those are HATS! Hairy hats. There is a bag, to which the "flute" end and a "breath" end are attached, with several more on the top to control air/sound? Piping is hard, but some of the breath is stored in the bag to continue the tune. Pants are not part of the uniform, as they wear traditional men's skirts called Kilts. (that furry piece in front is a sporran, or purse of sorts) The bagpipes are used in many places as a "call to battle" Many military men have bagpipes played at their funerals.

This means nothing without context!!! They are wearing Kilts not skirts and NO UNDERWEAR!!!!! It's not a part of the uniform and they can be disciplined if caught wearing any!! It's to help toughen you up!! They are called Bagpipes and the men and women who play are Bagpipers and they do many different songs. Bagpipers were considered SACRED at one time from the OLD KEPPERS of Clan and out of Clan Knowledge they eventually became part of the military regiments. The different coloured Kilts were used to identify the different regiments on the field of battle.

They are so cultured they notice the architecture and everything.

I love this. People seeing other people, cultures, seeing new things, sharing, relating, respecting. Makes my heart sing. The way people should be.

Everyone comments on the sound of the pipes but to me it´s the sound of the drums that stands out, the sharp crack is achieved by the use of double snares.

It's great that the guys are enjoying the music. Bagpipes in England have a bad reputation going back centuries, most people here will say they don't like them at all. It's a cultural thing; we fought a lot of wars with Scotland down the ages. At one time, bagpipes were not considered a musical instrument, but a weapon of war.

In battle the Scottish regiments were historically called ‘the ladies from hell’ ladies because they wore wool skirts called kilts.

The force of air in bagpipes is unique. They simply blow air into a bag that is under their arm. And they press the bag with their elbow causing air to be forced through a reed. So it doesn't take as much force with the mouth as it seems. That's why it's called a bagpipe. The Irish use a similar one in their traditional music called uilleann pipes. Literally meaning elbow pipe in Irish.

That fort is Edinburgh Castle and still have an active Army base to day with up to 600 soldiers and where the Honours of Scotland crown Jewels are kept and are the oldest crown jewels in Britain.

My Uncle was a veteran. When he died, because he was Irish and a veteran, there was a gun salute and bagpipes. I cried.

The guy on the left wearing white said he’s seen similar buildings in Mumbai. Of course, it was formerly called Bombay, where from 1858 to 1947 the British Raj ruled India. The British empire then included India, Singapore, Malaya and Hong Kong in South Asia. Scottish highland regiments with their marching bands were part of the British military that fought and were stationed there. The British army also recruited Indians and Gurkhas in their army.

The 'device' (musical instrument) is the bagpipes and not the 'bagpiper'. The person who PLAYS the bagpipes can be called a 'bagpiper' or 'piper'.
