Elish jhol always tastes good with plain rice & if you go through the history of India before independence Bangladesh was not even born as it was a part of India but after independence Pakistan & after that Bangladesh gained independence from Pakistan so the cuisines are almost the same for Pakistan & Bangladesh

@@subraahmed1143 Bengali food has its origin long before the Mughals came. Moreover, Bengali food is quite different from the Mughal tastes. @sarthakdas89
@sarthakdas89 2 года назад
@@subraahmed1143 no. You would be surprised how many dish that you consider bengali food is actually a food of odisha including sweets like rasogola. Odia cooks were extremely popular in rich bengali families. And with the cooks the cuisine also went there. Mughal cuisine is completely different. They dont use mustard paste, poshto and many other ingredients that's present heavily in bengali cuisine but these are a part of odia cuisine since ages. If you're just talking about the biryanis or kormas then sure that would be the mughal influence but that's not what's cooked in homes . In homestyle cooking only mutton dishes may have been inspired by the mughals. But most homely food like mishti pulav and all came from odia cooks hired by bengalis. The mughal influence mostly went to Bangladesh.

Ilish jhol, Kolkata style biryani and peyaji (onion fritters) are also popular in Kolkata and Bangladesh and Kolkata share almost 80% commonality in cuisine. BTW, Bengali cuisine is mostly cooked in mustard oil, the second most healthy cooking oil after olive oil. Since you already started eating Indian food with your hands I'm gonna share some tips to improve your game- When your mix your rice with the gravy and start to lift close the gaps between your fingers(except the thumb), there must be no gaps when lifting. Then when you push the food with your thumb use the back of the thumb i.e. the nail part. You'll end up with less messy hands. The art of eating with your hands is very subtle and we perfected it from birth so you can see me eating and not even see food on the back of my hand(the part that's on camera lol).

Bangladeshi food is similar to what we get in West Bengal and also other parts of India 🇮🇳 It would be wonderful to watch you cook an authentic Bengali Biryani along with the Hilsa fish with curry . Since you are quite passionate of cooking you would enjoy this cook . Piaju is nothing but Lentil fritters and is an explosion of flavours . Quite easy to make and you could try to cook it at home An authentic Biryani will always taste good and glad you enjoyed the Lamb Biryani. The lamb looks to be quite succulent and juicy . I love the Hilsa fish and it’s one of my most favourite sea food items . Once you taste the Hilsa or Elish it would be your go to fish if you could find some authentic restaurants that offer it . Your expressions, review , happiness after tasting the Hilsa fish is pleasing to watch . Hey Jessica, I'm from the Indian part of Bengal ie West Bengal. If you actually want to taste real bengali food, Go to an "Indian" Bengali restaurant. The Bengali food from Bangladesh has been heavily influenced by their muslim culture post partition and I wouldn't call it authentic "Bengali' per se. Its mostly beef. You will be amazed to find the difference between food of Bangladesh and the original Bengal which is now the west West Bengal of India. Bengali food is mellow but extremely fragrant and flavourful. Plus actual bengali food has a ton of vegetarian dishes cooked with subtle fragrant spices and of course a huge variety of fish preparations to cater to the Bengalis obsession with fish. What you had was basically Bangladeshi food and not Indian food from Bengal. Trust me . Its that different. Loved your video anyways.♥

Actually not. Indian bengali food has heavy influence from odia food. Bangladeshi bengali food has heavy influence from Arabic and mughlai kitchen.

@@sarthakdas89 But Mughals came before British! So even if Mughal touch is there it's still Indian! By the way Mughal foods like Biriyani was designed in India with Indian herbs and spices! So it's ours man! Partition happened later!

@@sayanchakraborty1252 even before mughals rule came trade had started between bengal and arab caliphate. That brought the arab influence. Layer mughal rule added a little more. These came from odia kitchens along with their cooks

When it comes to fish, Bongs are second only to cats, so when a Bong says it's the best fish, the best fish it is. I don't think one would come across anyone who would rate any fish above Ilish/Hilsa after one has tasted it. It's bones are a good deflector, for Bongs get to have it in plenty else the world would be chasing it like crazy, and this fish is very seasonal and very limited in supply. For people afraid of bones, a good way to have Ilish/Hilsa is to have it deep-fried. A good Ilish/Hilsa would still taste great but the bones would be much crispier and easily chewable. Anyways, Bengali Fish Cuisine is on just another level, but only open to those who dare, those who can dare the bones, and then it's a multiverse of taste and health. :)

6:23 whenever u see this kind of watery gravy;well, its supposed to be like that; and its not excessively watery; its called a "CURRY" ; to be specific, a fish curry; unlike, the "gravy" you will find especially in punjabi owned restaurants(mostly in canada, u will find punjabi owned restaurants); they add thick cashew paste in everything; lol.

Coriander leaves on biriyani?? Seems out of place for such a delicate dish. You may choose to use it alternatively as a sauce or with a drink to counter the oils & richness. Glad you liked our cuisine!! Nomoshkar!! PS: If you do visit Bengal(not just Kolkata), do visit it in October - the whole city and most of the state turns into a giant food fest for a week(kind of like Oktoberfest, with food and the spirit of Durga Puja in place of Beer).

Why are you offering apology? Only for getting a few more subscribers from India, you edited the caption but All of the dishes are Bangladeshi. Even you can't find "Piyaju" in India. They call it "Piyaji" and it doesn’t look and taste like "piyaju". The broth of Ilish curry of India is not as light and flavorful as that of Bangladesh. And Bangladesh biryani is more wet while Kolkata Biryani is so dry and you can count each rice grain. The girl serves you is a Muslim girl from Bangladesh.

Musur Daler Bora/ Bengali style Lentil fritters is one of the most popular snacks in Bengal. This is easy to cook. My mother cooks this recipe and it's very nutritious.We enjoy this recipe over a cup of tea.If you want to make it then you need this thing-Split red lentils,Onion, Green Chillies,Fresh coriander leaves (cilantro),Ginger,Amchur(mango powder),Refined soyabean oil,Turmeric powder,Red chilli powder,Salt. You can add more spices as you like. At First Soak the lentils in hot water for one hour. Drain the water completely. Now in a mixer, put lentils, finely chopped ginger, pinch of turmeric and salt as per taste.Pulse it till it become a medium coarse paste. Now take out the lentil mixture in a bowl, add chopped onions, chopped green chillies,chopped coriander leaves,little bit of red chilli and mango powder.Mixed it well then in a pan, pour enough refined oil for deep frying.Scoop the mixture using a spoon or hand and carefully place it in hot oil. Do not overhit the pan. Fry it till golden brown from all sides. Slot them out on a kitchen tissue paper.
