INDIAN HISTORY - Great Battles - Third Battle of Panipat 1761

Sandeepji it was fabulous however just small additions 4-5 point wise . 1) Battle started in morning 9.00 am & until 1.00 PM marathas were winning . After 1.00 PM the tide tilted towards Abdali. Death of maratha soldiers upto 50,000 & death of 30,000 Abadli soldiers happened in 1 single day & not in 3-4 days 2) Marathas were fighting for Bharat & Moghul empire. As Moghul empire in Delhi had gone weak & they had signed a protection treaty with Marathas to protect Delhi from foreign Invaders .Abdali wanted to conquer Delhi & control Hindustan . 2) In the battle abdali's own 30,000 Afghan soldiers were killed others were of Rohilas & Suja daula of Awadh. So he himself was lost & devastated. He wrote a letter to his son that he never saw a fightter community as strong as marathas.Letter is available in bhandarkar Institute pune. 3) After the battle when Abdali reached Delhi looking at the position of Delhi he himself handed over Delhi back to Marathas & went back to Afganistan & never came back . 4) Abdali & his army was very disciplined & were fully dressed as per the severe cold weather. A hindu community of Gosavis who had 5000 soldiers were reserved force with Abdali . They were slave of Money. They killed almost 10,000 marathas as they were fresh however marathas were tired since fighting from morning without food 5) Unfortunately Rajputs didnt help Maratahas accept for 1 some Ahila Singh. As national politics Rajputs were jealous of Maratahas coming from south & controlling Delhi. 6) Bajirao- Mastani's son shamsher bahadur fought with marathas but was killed by Abdali soldiers in this battle. 7) Awadh king suja Daula requested Abdali & collected Sadashiv bhau & Vishwasrao head & body & did proper death rituals as per Hindu tradition.

Yess.. We Maharashtrians have a Proverb in Marathi i.e " Panipat Zaale" !!! When I was a Kid, & Whenever i Broke something Precious or did some Materialistic Loss. So While Scolding me, Dad Use to Always Say " PANIPAT ZAALE" So I used to Wonder, why would he Say that.

Sir as you said the Marathas never fought a war on the name of religion but on the hand the letter of Sadhashiv rao bhau reads as: "For the defence of our religion it is the duty of every Hindu to help me". Also according to Sir Jadunath Sarkar, the Marathas used to meddle in the religious affairs, they were very rude to muslims and used to marry their girls by force". So isn't it a contradiction? 2. You are using sentences like "unhone malmal ke kapre pehnay thay aur sardi thi, bhookay thay, Dhoop bohot tez thi etc" it seems like you are making excuses for their defeat. But the fact is that the Marhattas only expanded when the Mughals begin to decline. They expanded rapidly when the Mughal empire was shattering after the demise of Aurang. They had only faced the forces of puppet mughal princes , and in the battle of Panipat the strong Afghan forces under Ahmad shah shattered their dreams of supremacy. Anyhow, I really appreciate your efforts. Your lectures are very helfull. Thank you for the great contributions

Battle of pavan khind was victory for marathas... Reason no 1... Adilshahi failed to capture maharaj which was the main objective.. Reason no 2... Marathas lost only 300 soldiers and adilshahi lost around 5000 mens
