Hey, Laura. I'm from Bangladesh and most of us just buy the pastry which is normally used for spring rolls and then deep fry it. There is another version with homemade dough, which is actually really easy. Just mix together 2 tbsp of oil, one cup water and two cups of flour. Your recipe looks also really delicious and more healthy than the deep fried ones :D I am excited about your next Indian inspired recipe 😊

Not bad. And I really like the idea with the baking. I am in Pakistan and we deep fry our samosas. Btw they go really well with mint and coriander chutney. It sort of brings the heat down. It's easy. Cilantro/coriander, mint, a clove of garlic, salt, roasted cumin, green chillies, juice of one lemon, vegetable oil and blitz it with some water. Take a tablespoon or a little more and mix it with a cup of yogurt or as per taste. The green chutney paste can be stored in refrigerator for three weeks. If you want to make it tangy add tamarind water instead of yogurt.

Before Ramadan (Muslim's holy month) we make tons of samosa's with so many variations (meat and veggies/chicken/potatoes/cheese) and then keep them in the freezer, and deep fry a small batch everyday. It's a traditional around even though it's an Indian dish (I live in Dubai) everyone loves samosas! Try filling them with cream cheese and drizzle some honey or maple syrup after frying/baking them, HEAVEN

Hi Laura, loved to see an Indian recipe made by you. I am an Indian and I have been treating my husband with all the delicious Italian dishes that you have shown all these days and won his appreciation every single time.Thank you very very much :).. As for the samosa I use the puff pastry dough and for the filling I make the veg version adding a few cauliflower florets with the potato mix and for the non veg version I add minced lamb/mutton along with the potato mixture that you showed. Keep up the good work. :)

Funny that I'm eating Bow tie pasta with chicken sausage that I made while watching this recipe :D Being an Indian I can say that samosa recipe has hundreds of variations. You nailed this one! You actually made an Indian dish without changing any ingredient, Haldi or turmic is the only ingredient that's missing, else PERFECT! I would give you a ten on ten here :) Next time try Murgh Malai Kabab( Chicken Cream/Cheese Kabab). Its a hit with foreigners as its mild and juicy and YUMMMMMMMMM ;o)

Love your enthusiasm Laura :) Just one small tip, in the beginning before you add the spices to oil, just drop 2,3 pieces of cumin or mustard seeds & see if it pops up / bubbles up in the hot oil, that's when u know oil is ready, it will take the flavor to another level. Loved your twists & tips :)

These look delicious! I am sorry you have to keep reminding your audience that this is your version and might not be traditional. Sigh. Gotta hate the haters! But one correction: cilantro is the leafy part of the same plant that the coriander seed comes from but they both have very different flavor so the terms are not interchangeable. Keep up the great work, Laura! P.S. Can someone tell me why these aren't pakoras?
@snehamirchandani3974
@snehamirchandani3974 10 лет назад
pakoras are generally fried dumplings made from gram flour/chickpea flour and you can't really shape them like she did with the samosas.
@aayushapandey683
@aayushapandey683 10 лет назад
Pakoras are made mostly with besan ( chickpea flour ) and just like Sneha Mirchandani said you can't really shape them like samosas.
@smritisspecial

pakodas are more like a rustic dish where you dip in your veggie/ meat mixture or simple raw veggies- dip them into flavored chickpea very wet dough and fry them. they are served with various chutneys.

Actually, in UK we only use the word coriander - "fresh coriander" and "coriander seeds". The French say (de) la coriandre (feminine) for the herb, and le / du coriandre (masculine) for the seeds. In English, cilantro is North American - I think it's also a Spanish word but am not 100% certain.

Ignore Mary whatshername. Obviously you were just giving your take on samosas, which is exactly what Laura was asking for at the end of her video. And I understand that by "making them taste better" you meant to add another layer of flavour. Each country / culture / region / family have their own take on a specific dish, and it's nice to hear what other keen cooks / foodies have to say. So thanks for the tips!

There are thousands of variations of the Samosa recipe with different ingredients for fillings, crusts, etc. None of them are right or wrong. Whatever you like to put in it is your choice. The recipe for the filling is pretty similar to what I have used when making them. I add a little bit of garlic as I like that, but I know most leave it out, and that's fine.

Your take on the recipe is awesome. Frying in ghee or oil will make it too heavy.. Plus you are saving hell lot of time using filo. It's exactly the same as I prepare it . Only diff is I use dried peas soaked in water for 6-7 hrs before use and boil it with potatoes.. And yes "sharing is caring"...

Samosa is very famous in Pakistan too. We don't cook the veggies like you have. We use boiled potatoes with fresh coriander, green chilly, spring onions with some dried spices (red chilly, cumin seeds, coriander seeds, etc). Mix it all up (potatoes bit chunky for texture). Fill the mixture in samosa dough and fry (I bake them too, instead of frying). They are served with mint yogurt chuttni or plum chuttni. There are also other fillings like minced chicken or beef or mix of other vibrant veggies with meat etc. But the vegetarian samosa is most famous.

It's an appetiser/side dish, so you only have one or two pieces anyway

Samosa is Indian. The Arabic version is a different name, I would know because I'm Indian. Don't be ignorant..

Ai hai, pata nahi yeh kaisay samosay banai hain isne. Bhala batao, koi kya samoson ko bake karta hain?!?! Poora maza toh iss baat mein hai ke yeh tale mein fry hotay hain. Us hi tareeqay se toh unka sahi zaiqa nikalay ga. India ya Pakistan mein kisi nai aise samosay bani hotey toh unko ghar mein se hi nikala jata.

Han han, kam calories ke liye to yeh talnein se zada achha hain. Likin India aur Pakistan mein kisi ko calories ki koi parva nahi hai lol. Hum toh sab kuch mazzey ke liye khale te hain

although they look nice, these are by no means a samosa. For a traditional samosa is always fried etc

Laura *did* explain that this was not a traditional version of the recipe, and she also mentioned that she preferred not to fry them. Cooking is all about adaptation; it's a journey that should be enjoyed and tailored to one's tastes! That's what Laura has done.

Dee A Honestly, "They are by no means samosa". Um what? "Samosa" is a baked or fried savory potato filled snack. There's no right or wrong way to cook it... Just so you know.

You can't say Indian inspired when they are from india. You are supposed to use whatever twist you put on it and then inspired. It's not inspired by what it originally is.

Wth?? That makes no sense! Let the woman cook her Indian "inspired" meals...or whatever country she feels "inspired to cook. Laura made an authentic Indian meal with her "inspired" take on it!! When you have your own RU-vid cooking channel then you can make your own "inspired" meals and wait for your complaints on your own cooking! Give her a break...laura does awesome takes with her meals!!! #annoying

Don't worry this isn't an attack response, but a necessary correction. Laura's use of 'Indian inspired' is correct here, because what she made in the video is not entirely authentic or original to the classic Indian samosa (as she said). Her twists include using filo dough (traditionally a thicker pastry) and baking them (traditionally fried).

Are you trying to say potatoes are from India... Other than that I can't really see more purpose to your comment.

Bonjour du Québec, Merci I do prefer the Filo to the usual dough. I really enjoy the fact that you are not afraid to try stuff outside the box. Your video is entertaining and really well done! Thanks again.

I really like Laura! How people are saying she's fake or forced or not humble anymore etc, to me, is baffling! I think she's great and I always look forward to her videos! You can't please everyone, but then again, the world would be a very boring place if you could!

These looks AWESOME! I like the phyllo dough shortcut and how they're baked and not fried. If you want an authentic recipe, there are lots of Indian ladies on RU-vid who will show you how.
