It was smooth. I also have saddle bag audio so my amp connection was different. However, I could not use the plastic sleeves on the stainless spools, it would not fit. So I just left them off.

Thanks for the detail. Just a couple of observations; lighting was a bit lacking at times, and would have loved to have heard the speakers once installed with your comments about them. Would have liked to see those trunk lights and how bright they are at night. Great video; thanks again from the Great Southern Land.

Not going to have much luck there :) I got it direct from Indian Motorcycle online. They're having a sale right now if you spend a certain amount. Probably the best price you'll find.

Do you have a video on the install of the saddleman trunk pads for the stock pads that come on the trunk?
@MOTOBLADE

Those are the saddlemen pads in the video, not the stock trunk pads. The install is identical.

Hey man. Love your videos immensely I pulled the plug and picked up my chieftan limited tour pak (silver quartz metallic). This is gonna be the weekend project. I am not doing the audio at this time. Question is that I had installed at delivery the quick release sissy bar ( didn’t think i was gonna get the tour pack so will hopefully be able to sell that ). But the question is that the “steel spools” and plastic bushings are already on there. I didn’t see any other steel spools in the kit. Would it stand to reason that the sissy bar spool set up would work on the tour pack ? Any thoughts would be great. I will be watching this video a thousand times this weekend during the install. Again. Thanks for the great content and stay well. Mike from Michigan
@MOTOBLADE
@MOTOBLADE Год назад
Replied to your other comment but I will put this here too so hopefully you'll see one of them. If it already has the plastic bushings on it, I THINK you're okay. Difference I believe is stainless vs aluminum spools. They beefed them up at somepoint and if your bike is older it may not have the stainless with the plastic bushings. That's the info I was told, so I'm operating under that assumption.

Thanks for the great content. I just picked up my trunk and was going to install. Didn’t see the spools in the parts but i have the Indian quick release sissy bar now which looks like the same setup. Would it stand to reason those would work the same for the trunk ? Any thoughts would be great. Sorry if this is a duplicate.. tried sending earlier and not sure it went. Thanks. Mike from Michigan
@MOTOBLADE
@MOTOBLADE Год назад
I think the difference in the spools is stainless vs aluminum but I'm not entirely sure... Good luck on the install. I enjoy using this trunk every single day. Incredibly useful. Packing it now for my ride to Sturgis next week.

How do I make the speakers work
@peterschryver
@peterschryver 3 года назад
You forgot to mention the safety screws that prevent the trunk release latches from being disengaged, and prevent theft theft. The trunk installs first, and slides directly from the rear so as not to have to squeeze down over the pillion. next you can easily install the safety screws from the side, just in front of the release latches. Finally, the side bags go on last.
@MOTOBLADE
@MOTOBLADE 3 года назад
Yes, you can do that if you want to mount the trunk permanently. I take the trunk off quite a bit for another accessory I put on the back, so I don't put the screws in. Would still be quite a bit of work for someone to take it off once you have it connected to the power cable.

how would care for the speakers when it rains? I guess, - can they survive wet days AND how would you care for them?
@MOTOBLADE

They are waterproof, marine grade speakers. But, you could put a small travel cover over the trunk if you're worried about them getting wet.

Do you have the Indian part # for speaker trunk kit you used? And on what year Chieftain? I ask, as I've been told Indian no longer has a trunk speaker kit for the 2018 Chieftains......
@MOTOBLADE
@MOTOBLADE 3 года назад
You're a lucky man! As it turns out I saved the part of the box that had the part number! Part #: 2880958 Now, it's on clearance right now on Indians website, you'll only be able to find it using the part number, when it's gone, it's gone. Indian wants you to pay for the newer system - I guess that's why the older speakers are being phased out. Or, more likely, they just want you to pay more to have a dealership install it for you. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching :)

So what did you do with the antenna that sticks straight up and hits the trunk now?
@MOTOBLADE
@MOTOBLADE Месяц назад
The antenna base is adjustable as far as the angle is concerned. I tilted it about an inch back off the trunk and it doesn’t touch it at all. About a 60 second adjustment.

All included. The thing that was not included was the speaker/amp. They have a kit for that because not everyone installs that in their trunk, some people do it in the saddlebags.

Both. It uses the electronic lock like the saddlebags, but in case your battery dies they include a regular key, just like the saddlebags.

@@MOTOBLADE I’m western Canada above Montana in Alberta. I’m looking at the Indian line too but man they are pricey in Canada. My riding buddy has a 2020 challenger I’ve ridden it a few times it’s a nice bike, but not nearly as smooth or powerful as my Triumph Trophy SE. I’m leaning towards a new Gold Wing Tour as I take the wifey all over and like to make sure she’s comfortable. I believe that tour pack you bought is close to $5K up here when all said and done…which is just crazy… it pushes the bike well over $40K here in Canadian Pasos 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

@@MOTOBLADE either way they (the government) gets their money from you. If you buy it in the US they nail you with import fees and taxes when you go to register it in Canada. I guess it doesn’t help that for every $1 US dollar costs me $1:25 Canadian. I’m taking a road master out for a test ride soon and a new gold wing but I also have the BMW K1600 Grand America on my list.
