BIG DIFFERENCE in throttle response and power delivery! A major setback though, when a clutch spring bolt snaps!!

Well... I did much the same thing. My Torque wrench is bad. I went to tighten to 7ft lbs (10nm) but it never clicked. I have tougher springs than what comes with the barnett (the ones from Indian V-Twin Performance) and thought it was getting tight, but didn't think it was that far off. Snapped the bolt. It's mostly in. Just the head came off.

That'll do it! Those bolts are just enough to hold the springs in place, and if you crank 'em to much, the heads will pretty much be done for.

I am pretty sure I posted a comment and asked a question. But okay. So I watched your other vid's set up before this. I enjoyed them and you present them pretty well, even if you don't show the actual work done and things needed to be done. Still found them valuable. I have been doing my research and prep work for next weekend. You say that the OEM bolts aren't strong enough. Do new bolts come with the kit? I am not going with the Indian clutch kit, I'm getting the Barnett set, with the extra plates. I also bought another set of springs. They're even stiffer than what comes in the Indian clutch kit. That's why I'm wondering if the set comes with new bolts. If the OEM bolts are strong enough, I'm wondering if maybe you missed putting in the blue loctite for the bolts. Wondering if in the short ride, you'd not loctite'd the bolt, and it worked itself a turn or two loose and that allowed the head to get too close to the rest of the insides and it got snapped. I am not trying to point out an error, I'm trying to make sure I don't make the same mistake. I hope the next attempt fixes the issues.

Hello and welcome. Glad you enjoy the info. In short, I share things I encounter while tinkering here and there. This is the first comment I have seen posted by you, but I do appreciate the feedback. So in response to you, I can assure you that everything was torqued to specs. I only had an issue with that one bolt. I always doublecheck my work, coming from the field I worked in as a diesel mechanic, its just sorta habit. This is my second channel, and those who know me, can attest to the fact that I like to get the job done right. Also I wouldn't put loctite on those bolts, because they don't require them. Some people like to use it on everything, but some bolts only need to be torqued to specs, and they will be just fine. Those bolts are not as big as you think, and its possible to have a defect in one of them every so often. The reason I say so, is because it snapped at the head, while the rest of the bolt remained in the threaded stem. If it was loose it would have been easier to extract, in my honest opinion. At any rate, don't be afraid to tackle the job yourself. It's a fun upgrade, and I will have the finished job coming to ya soon! 😎👍

By the way, new bolts does not come with the kit. Only the springs and friction plates. Even other aftermarket performance clutch kits for this motor, as well as a lot of other motors, tells you to reuse the OEM bolts. That's why I strongly believe that it was just a bad bolt. Having a fresh set of bolts couldn't hurt, I guess.
