India is a diverse country with hundreds of languages. Hindi is not the only language that identifies Indians. India has a lot of english medium schools that's why a lot of people speak english better. Maybe in Japan they are taught in Japanese, so they are more fluent in speaking in Japanese, that is totally understandable. Nothing to be embarrassed about in not knowing english nor is being proud about knowing hindi. Every language is unique. Maybe you should learn a south Indian language for showing your solidarity.

I love hindi as much as I love English and urdu too I know bit Spanish and currently interested in to learn turkish language.
