Actually Temple of Doom seems a lot more complicated and difficult to shoot than the other two movies (Raiders and Crusade) ... its amazing how tightly strung all the complex set pieces and actions are even by today's standard ... sadly all the critics chosed to focus on how the violence being unsuitable for kids to watch .. but its great great adventure movie making at its best ...
@@88feji I took my mom to see this movie when it first came out and we arrived a minute or two after it had already started, right at the "Anything Goes" routine. We thought we had entered the wrong theater! LOL. Anyway, we both thoroughly enjoyed this movie from beginning to end. I don't know what the "critics" were complaining about: We loved it!
For me it was very weak since there was no plot to find something special. I hated it. For me the current answer to the number of IJ movies is "2", let's see what IJ5 will bring us :).
c'mon steve, get over the bad reviews, the fans made it one of the biggest movies of 1984 at the box office, the critics were too busy bashing it for not being a clone of Raiders, fuck em hahah
Steven was hesitant to make a dark Indy movie, but I think it turned out great. But with the 4th one, Steven refused George several times because of the whole alien thing because Steven had already done several (Close Encounters, E.T. and War of the Worlds) but George convinced him finally by saying they're not aliens but "interdimensional beings". Riiiight. Anyway, the original title was "Indiana Jones and the Saucer Men".... Years later Harrison Ford said that he wanted to do another one (number 5, that has been repeatedly pushed back or delayed) but that "this time we won't be going to Mars", indicating he wanted to return to the tried-and-true formula that had worked on the first three movies. I agree, and I hope they get it done before it's too late (Harrison is already approaching 80!)
I agree. Not my favourite of Indy movies, but it certainly isn't bad at all. I love Temple of Doom, I don't understand why some people seem to dislike it so much; and for not very good reasons, mind you (is "because it's too dark" a good reason to hate a movie? Really?)
Really like you guys (no homo). Even if Raiders will always be my favorite Indy 2 i.e. Temple Of Doom will always be Raider's younger brother to me its that good. It was different than the first film (most of the time) and went darker. i only wish all those deleted scenes were there though. Heard what was cut or wasn't filmed over the years; Indy and Willie's scene when Indy was under the black sleep (implied sexual assault by Indy on her? no wonder it wasn't filmed) and Mola Ram's original introduction from the novelization as a hidden figure, in the courtyard of the palace etc?! The Last Crusade is overrated, this film was the second best in the series and always will be.
CalvinistOnACouch It's certainly my favorite out of all the Indiana Jones movies. And the thuggees plus all of they're rituals are one of the reasons why.
Temple of Doom despite what the critics have said is in my opinion the highlight of the series. Full on fast paced action, humour, nightmarish themes. Really great Indy movie!
@@SB992REBORN why do you guys kiss Ge94ge Lucas ass like that. You listen to some of the ideas he had for the Indiana jones movies compared to Spielberg's the guy was out of his fucking mind and had no clue what he was doing. Guy is a shit writer but a merchandising genius.
Temple of Doom is actually better than Last Crusade. All 4 movies are very good but they have gotten a little weaker each time out. Raiders of the Lost Ark is by far the best.
I never understand the rankings people do. I always thought the Indy films rank in the exact order they were made. Raiders is a legit classic, Tod is great fun, lc is a bit of a safe retread, and the other two? Well..
I never understood the hate, Temple was ALWAYS my favorite. The first 3 are all fantastic, but I have def watched Temple the most and will always hold a special place in my heart.
When I was a kid all I had was the disc for temple of doom. Didn't know of the existence of the other two movies at the time. So I watched this repeatedly and to this day it's my favorite of the three.
1:11 Comment kate regarde steven sur la photos en noir & blanc.haha! On voit direct qu'elle est love de lui ❤😂 normal qu'elle soit devenue ça femme par la suite.
I find it so ironic that one of the best filmmakers to ever live on the face of the Earth married an actress cast in one of the worst films he ever made playing one of the most annoying, pointless love interest characters ever written.
I miss the sanctioned item in this movie that made 1 and 3 so special, his girl here also had the weakest charakter. Also the rollercoster scene was really strange and random.
My personal favorite film of the Indiana Jones series. I enjoy them all on varying levels, but feel Temple of Doom is the most imaginative, has the best set design, the best action sequences, locations, and score by John Williams of the entire series. Also, I feel this is where Harrison Ford's performance really shines and he feels more confident in he role than he did in Raiders of the Lost Ark. Yes, the tone is all over the place, and its really goofy, but these are movies which are not supposed to be taken too seriously and you should just go along for the adventurous ride.
I had a blast watching temple of doom at the cinema and so did everyone in the audience. Temple is way better than crusade - which I found a bit boring compared to the other 2!
the last ballsy movie produced by Lucas, with the dreadful Ewoks tv movies just around the corner, he went downhill after 1984, at least until Revenge of the Sith
Revenge of the sith is so overrated, the only reason you liked it was probably the cgi battles and the making of vader. It's a pretty good film, but its really overrated
Me concerned, Steven Spielberg could piss off. He is "sorry" for having made a movie that was HUGE in 1984 and a big part of my childhood. It could have been a crappy happy Movie and Spielberg would have been pleased. Spielberg is not God, Spielberg produces a lot of shit too.
Spielberg and Lucas shouldn't be so hard on themselves for Temple of Doom, when they did these interviews it had been 25 years and the film had obviously stood the test of time. And there is a lot of funny stuff in it, despite it being darker.
I guess a 4 star review from Roger Ebert is "terrible"? Pauline Kael from the NY Times also gave it a great review. Spielberg is confusing the controversy over the content with the reviews, which were great.
I think he's also remembering it differently because of Crystal Skull. A lot of the things he's saying in this featurette contradict the things he said in interviews from before Indy IV was made, and the narrative he's giving us here ("I didn't want to go dark, but George insisted and I just did what he told me") sounds a lot like his explanation for what happened in Crystal Skull.
When I watch the Trilogy... I like to start with this film because it takes place before Raiders. Hate to say it... Crystal Skull was the weakest of the four films.
Raiders of the Lost Ark was good. Temple of Doom was poor or good because it was dark and original. The Last Crusade was also good. People may argue which Indiana Jones film is the best because they're all just as good. But yes, Temple of Doom is the weakest of the trilogy.
Last Crusade is the weakest because they played it safe; they took all the edginess out of the film and it really meanders until Connery shows up. Plus the prequel bit at the beginning is ridiculous.
