#retroblasting #indianajones #lego Support us on PATREON: / retroblasting Michael takes on a custom "MOC" Lego build of the tank from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade!
Thanks for uploading the review Michael! I'm aware of the issues you mentioned in the instructions and I'm working on a fix. I'll be uploading the v2.2 instructions soon which will also improve a couple of parts on the tank, mainly related to color variations, exterior details and making the periscope hatch sturdier. Don't worry, you won't have to take the whole tank apart this time, but these 2-3 tiny details will make it even better (this will be the final version, I promise 😂, I just want a clean design to be as accurate as possible to the real tank and I'm very very close) I hope you give this one a try, stay tuned for news!
Hi @1995tms, I am waiting for version 2.2. Then I will gladly buy your instructions. Can you please tell me when approximately it will be released? Please consider also exchanging very expensive parts with different color - as for example "Technic, Gear 24 Tooth with 1 Axle Hole". Thanks
@@jirihracek I hope to release them in the middle of august. Regarding the technic part, you can buy it in whatever color you want (dark bluish gray is the cheapest) i put light bluish gray because it looks better in my opinion, but feel free to choose your color! And this applies to all pieces
@@retroblasting Hello Michael! I have just released the v2.2 version, I would appreciate if you can do a quick review or give your thoughts about it. I have uploaded the new video to my channel and the new instructions manual (improved and easier to follow) and part list update on rebrickable. Thanks again!!
This, the Submarine from Raiders and the Grail Temple were the 3 sets I always wished they made for this line. Its honestly surreal to see it in real life.
If you want the sub, I can highly recomend ya the set 628011 VIIC U-522 from panlos ( altough not an indy line but it is a modell from a german type VIIc submarine as used in the movie in minifig scale)
Now we gotta see a Lego set of the Kali human sacrifice chamber from Temple of Doom, complete with a hole in the floor and a guy strapped to that metal thing and mini figure of Mola Ram with a heart on fire in his hand. Might be a tad gruesome and macabre for a family-friendly company like Lego. 🤔
I loved the use of the indy clips in this video, absolutely hilarious when combined with the frustration! I’m an AFOL myself and i can tell you now that piecing together sets using bricklink never gets easier 😂😅
It is amazing how much we see eye to eye on stuff. I feel/felt the same way you did about the tank in The Last Crusade. I have always wondered why they didn't make this set. It is a real head scratcher.
Challenging journey, but what a destination. Your patience and attention to detail was rewarded with a beautiful piece to display within your collection.
1989? Wow, I was like 6 months old when that movie came out in June. Yeah, six months, I was born in December 1988. Man, it must have been awesome watching it in theaters.
Excellent video as always Michael. I am 53 years old. It is so amazing how LEGOs have evolved over time. When I was 8yo, a year after I saw STAR WARS, I tried to make an X-Wing out of LEGOs, and as you can imagine, it looked pretty pathetic and because LEGO pieces only attached in one direction at the time, the sad excuse for the lower s-foils fell off way too easily.😄 Keep up the Awesome Work! GOD Bless You, Melinda and all of the guys!
That is an Amazing Adventure you’ve gone on. Through the jungle of the many different aisles of a bricklink and trials of redesign. You have choose wisely. ☺️ also those photos and stories of younger you are Awesome.
Yeah, Lego bricks and gunpla assembling was fun for me back then since I was a kid. Whenever I completed the set or figure the feeling of satistaction is so heavenly. Now, my son enjoys building his Lego bricks and watching him complete the set is also gratifying.
What a lovely story. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade is the only Indiana Jones film I saw at the cinema. So it will always have a special place in my heart. The tank looks great and you have a great display.
Very impressive video Michael! The work you put into that tank is unfathomable. And such a great story of your Indiana Jones story. This is Retroblasting at its finest.
Can we all convince Brickmania to make a “Last Crusade” tank? Great video Brother! I graduated high school in 1989 and I too have very fond memories of the third Indy film. Cheers! “Only a Penitent Man will Pass!” 😺
Gotta say this has been one awesome, sincere, and at some points funny story! The movie clips fit perfectly too! And I know the feeling of frustration with working on something just to have to do it over...
I genuinely loved this video. Adam Savage said once that any story can be interesting if it happens to someone who is interested in it. The adventure of not getting all the lego parts needed for a custom moc may seem mundane or silly, but the care you had for it plus the sentimental and relatable story at the end tied everything together into a story I got invested in. Thank you for this awesome video, I'm excited to watch more!
I’ve given my hot take about Indiana Jones. But your enthusiasm ALWAYS captures my interest on things I otherwise would not seek out. Between this and the “perfect Raiders Indy” Hasbro figure, there may be some hope for me that I finally come around on these movies. Well done, sir!
Genius of the Restoration; Aid our own resuscitation. Awesome build! I definitely don’t have the patience for LEGO. That pairing, along with the gift, is fabulous! Thanks for the vid, Michael and RB! Looking forward to the next one!
My son and I watched your video, really enjoyed it. I can 100% understand the drive to get the tank right. Besides action figures, we both collect/build/mod Lego sets. It's a pain in the ass to gather the pieces, but the end result is very much worth it. The Lego Piece Gring is real! Also, my kiddo wants to do this tank build, and I told him he'll need to get a job. I deal mainly with castle sets, and he already maxed out our tan and sand color pieces with Indy set ups.
Man!!!! I felt like I was watching an HBO documentary. Well done sir. Such amazing content and articulation I had to go and watch it again, it’s that F….NG good!
I’ve been n Bricklink for 23 years - still trust my handwritten lists more than want lists - so I understand your pain. Rebrickable instructions break physics at times.
On one hand I can understand why Lego opted not to make this tank as it would go against their anti-military rule, but then again, the Flying Wing and the vehicles from Crystal Skull say otherwise. Even in this 2023 wave I would've liked to see that tank over a redo of the plane. Maybe as a D2C set? Having a piece of that screen used stunt tank tread though, that's priceless
Really good video, Lego MOC's are indeed a very useful way to get models of vehicles and characters that never have gotten a good toy. I had to substitute my own Daleks out of Lego in lieu of Character options Daleks not being available in my area and being expensive to import. I was able to build The Supreme, Imperial, Special weapons and a Emperor Dalek from evil of the daleks. Also I was able to engineer a pretty convincing mechanoid as well
my husband told me he remembers watching Last Crusade in 1989 Honolulu drive-in theater. My husband still has the hat his father brought him from the BX on Hickam AFB. I kind of look at my husband as an Indiana Jones type gentleman. 10 years in the South African Defense force always adventures in the Jemez springs in northern New Mexico with me and our children and working in African and Asian History at the university for a short while before he formed a private security company. I guess it can be said my husband was influenced by both his father also ex-military and Indiana Jones. My husband also speaks Japanese fluently Swazi,Dutck Afrikaan and German. Everytime you all do Gi joe,Action Force and Indiana Jones toys and retrospectives my husband’s eyes light up and a nostalgic grin opens on his face. Thank you everyone at Retroblasting you make me and my family happy everytime you post a new video. Thank you for doing what you do!
I don’t know if you know this but bricklink isn’t the only platform to use. lego also sells they’re own pieces on their page, it’s called “pick a brick” it can bit more expensive that bricklink but they have a bigger variety of pieces and if your order is over 35 dollars shipping is free. So maybe in future you can use that, as someone who bricklinks a lot, I’m starting to use pick a brick as often as I can for harder to find bricks
Brilliant, well done Michael, imo this is your best video since "Star Wars Follies: Micromanaged Galaxy Vintage Kenner 1982" (which is unsurmountable) thanks so much for continually making such entertaining and informative videos.
As a Star Wars fan/collector I am so glad I never let myself fall into the Lego Pit-of-Darkness although it tempted me many, many times over the years.
Amazing work on the tank(s). Even more amazing to have an actual piece of the tank! Appreciate the shoutout. I have a new Indy prop project in the pipeline. Will keep you posted.
loved this video, I was your age in 1989 during 1984 when Temple of Doom came out,I am just so glad I was able to see all three original films as they came out to theatres, I still Hold Raiders high up on it's own pedestal. keep on keepin on Michael!
If you ever meet an old man with an eye patch under his glasses, wearing a wide brimmed hat, realize, he will never die. He drank from the grail! Good work Michael. May your enthusiasm and love of what is right never die. The righteous man walks by faith. The righteous man knows the name of the LORD. The righteous man chooses wisely. May you never die!
The Last Crusade is actually my favorite Indiana Jones film. I think I'm in the minority on that one. It's good to see a critical piece of that adventure in Lego form.
Michael, if you are not already aware, there are a number of third-party businesses out there making custom armored vehicles and military aircraft sets using real Lego pieces. These companies sell fully prepared model sets with all the parts and instructions included. They are of course more expensive than buying a typical parts list on your own might be, but it’s some cases it’s well worth it to get everything in hand at once. Search for “The Brick Show Shop,” “Battle Brick Customs,” and “BrickArms” to start with. Doubtless there are others, but I’ve made purchases from those 3 and have never been disappointed. And I have no affiliation with any of these businesses or any other.
I used to get Star Wars Insider, and on the middle was the prop shop catalog, and for $30 was Indiana Jones' hat. For a highschool student in the late 90's $30 seemed impossible. Not as impossible as like hundreds of dollars Luke lightsaber. Lol
Great story, Michael! You have inspired me to start, and hopefully complete the LEGO Star Wars ARC-170 61543 MOC kit I bought online. Love me some fighters or bombers with bubble turrets and/or tail gunners. Good gosh, I hope all the parts are there! Wish me luck!
@@retroblasting he stuck a rock in the cannon and it blew up, to have a piece like that you would need to melt the cannon piece (which are made of plastic) and bend it and form it to look like that. I am handicapped and not able to do that type of intricate work. Heck, even putting Legos together is difficult for me which makes completing a project even more enjoyable and fulfilling. Maybe I didn't see it, but the tank doesn't look like it has a side cannon like that.
