She really bolted notes and made it look so effortless, smiling the entire time. I think she was the best singer I’ve ever heard. Nobody tops Whitney for me.
I an not American, I am koean but I was moved by her performace, and if anyone listens to her song regardless of nationality, it will have to admit that she is the best singer in the world.
The other reason why this is the best rendition is because Whitney wanted the arrangement to be different. Some of the beats and pauses are in different places. She draws out some syllables longer than others, etc. Nobody compares to this version though too many people try to do it better and nobody can because NOBODY can really belt it out like Whitney and nobody ever will.
This arrangement is by John Clayton, jazz musician, composer, arranger, and classical double bassist. He changed the time signature from the original 3/4 to 4/4 and reharmonized it starting at the second verse. He has also composed and arranged for The Count Basie Orchestra, Diana Krall, Carmen McRae, Nancy Wilson, Joe Williams, Ernestine Anderson, Quincy Jones, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Natalie Cole, Till Bronner, and The Tonight Show Band.
@@dunbarf2413 Her mother taught her but her technique is better than Cissy..She is a combination of Cissy Houston,Leontyne Price and Dionne Warwick with an Aretha Franklin influence.
Whitney Houston is incomparable and no one can ever do our Anthem justice like her. This version was recorded in 1991 for the Superbowl but I truly remember it 10 years later after 9/11, Whitney's version of our Anthem was playing all the time on so many radio stations. People were blasting it out of the cars, I did too. It was an extremely emotional time in our nation obviously. So, that was a time that it stood out the most for America, at least to me it did. Whitney Houston was a national treasure and she is still sorely missed, may she rest in peace with her beautiful daughter, Bobbi Kristina, together again in Heaven. Thank you for reacting to this. 👍😎
I agree with you, but why are so many people across seas just hearing this for the first time? It’s been about 30 years for us, but this is their first time!
@@marjorjorietillman856 Maybe because it's not significant to them. It's not their anthem so they don't go searching for it. I don't know other countries' anthems. And not all countries native language is English. If they don't know English, they won't understand so why would they look for it? Unless it's something like this kind of reaction video, I don't think they would just watch it to watch it. 🤷🏻♀
As an American this makes me nostalgic for than time when America was truly the United States and not what it has evolved into now. Maybe listening to Whitney sing this should be mandatory for us.
4:36 When I see the flag flying like that, it touches me deeply. As a German, I will never forget what the United States and millions of American households sacrificed for Germany, and rightly so, for the non-negotiable freedom of Berlin in 1945-1990. -Although it was we, the German people, who took your sons away from you. And you, who did not need it, helped Us nevertheless. With the help of the Marshall Plan and the unlimited and orderly repayment of the debts incurred in the name of Germany for the Second World War, we were able to build a stable democratic state in freedom in 1949, with prospects for all. This ,,Federal Republic of Germany" who was build in 1949 still exist today in 2022. Even if the country is controversial for many Germans today (myself too). I would like to thank the American people for this, from the bottom of my heart.
I got GOOSEBUMPS the first time I heard Whitney singing the national anthem! She had such a beautiful, powerful, resonant voice! She had an Angel in her throat. In my opinion, Whitney Houston is the greatest singer of all time. 🇺🇸
I still get choked up evertime I hear this. The oscillation of her voice creates a tone that we will never hear again in our lifetimes. Her voice was so unique and so exceptionally clear it was a recording voice and live instrument w no rival.
I remember watching this live and the timing of it was very important. The U.S. had just entered combat in the Gulf War and it was a very emotional time for many in our country. Whitney was a national treasure and was the only person who could deliver the national anthem at that time in that way. We needed it so much.
The definitive Star Spangled Banner, I remember watching it live and never seen so many fans with watery eyes. Whitney Houston was a gift and taken all too soon, but her music lives on.....
Listening to some old music with my daughter recently & have discovered that I cannot watch videos of Whitney Houston performing without crying. Guess I miss her more than I thought. R.I.P. Whitney.
You know when friends come to visit and admire your family traditions that are enjoyable but routine and their observation and admiration reinvigorates your love and admiration for your family tradition🥲🇺🇸That's the warm felling this video gives me. Thanks, fam!🥰
Hi. I'm American and I must say that it is one of the most difficult songs to sing due to the very high notes. When she sings: 'And the rockets red glare, the bombs bursting in air- gave proof through the night , that our flag was still there'....Oh, how difficult to sing! Miss Whitney sang the very best - most heartful version our citizens have ever heard. We love it and agree that it is the best version! Thank you for covering this anthem. God bless you both.
Whitney was and is close to my heart. She had the best voice in the world and she was the most beautiful woman, she was everything. Her music is great, check it out sometime. "I will always love you" , "Im your baby tonight" , "Didn't we almost have it all", "I wanna dance with somebody". To name some.
I'm old enough to remember when she first hit the music scene and got famous. I've loved her music ever since. My only regret is never seeing her in person.
Was watching that live there will never be another person to sing it like she did , so good she made it a number 1 selling single I will forever be thankful I was able to watch it live r.i.p. Whitney
We are so proud of our flag and her rendition always swells are hearts! So grateful others can feel that for it bc we know that other countries at so so proud of their own flags and countries!
Love love your reaction to our National Anthem. Many of us feel this is the best rendition ever. I’ve watched it dozens of times and always still tear up and feel pride. Thank you. ❤
Thank you for the last video, " The Star Spangled Banner As You Have Never Heard It," and for this video as well. Noone could do this like Whitney Houston, we miss you Whitney. Fantastic job, guys.
Thanks so much for doing this one guys… I was lucky enough to have just finished watching you reaction to “Star Spangled Banner as you’ve never heard it before” and feeling patriotic I searched out reactions for Whitney’s incredible star spangled banner reaction which you guys just did! Awesome guys… thank you!
I very much respect and appreciate the time you have given to America, our flag, our anthem and our freedom. You've shown it more respect than many Americans today. We are fortunate that around the world there are persons such as yourselves, who celebrate the pride that myself and countless other citizens of the USA feel for our country... God bless you both, and God bless AMERICA 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Thank you for your reaction! Our younger generation doesn’t seem to be as proud of our country anymore. The older generation is fading away and I don’t know if any loyalty is left.
Do you think everyone in the world isn’t free? The flag and the constitution were not created for all humans. And the many American wars killed millions and that had nothing to do with freedoms. It was about profit and privilege. Get out of the propaganda.
@@starbrightinfinity3329 I understand the facts... I was naive when I was younger...but not anymore... Just discovered your channel -- Subscribed! My husband adored Whitney Houston - When he heard Whitney sing our national anthem he was almost brought to tears. She had such a beautiful voice. Please keep making your vidoes!!
@@nielgregory108 Dude, really? Is that necessary? Everyone struggles with something. You think she just woke up one day and decided to be a drug addict? She was forced drugs because they overworked her from the very beginning. Just like Judy Garland, Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Presley, etc. There's no need to be disrespectful. I'm sure you're probably just trolling to piss someone off but it's still just rude and hateful and shows more of the kind of person you are than anything.
I’ve seen and heard it many times but I always get goosebumps and tears in my eyes. It’s always great to see people from other countries feel the music. Music is a powerful thing.
I believe the US was in the middle of Desert Storm(war with Iraq) at the time this was sung. Hence, so much patriotism in the crowd. Love this rendition.
I am so glad that you did this reaction only a few days after seeing the story. I think the two go together very well and you can continue to ride that emotional wave. the following is a link to the United States Marine Corps silent drill team. it is impressive. it's another one of those videos that makes me feel proud to be an American. I really hope you watch it because you will never see anything like it on RU-vid
Loved your guys reaction! Thank you for appreciating Whitney's greatness! Whitney is widely regarded, hands down to us, as the best to ever do our National Anthem. There's no one that comes close. Everyone that I see that has heard her gets goosebumps too. She had such a God-given gift. She's the only singer that has ever made me cry listening to our anthem. Blessings to you all from the United States!
Thank you for reacting to this! Not sure if you saw my suggestion to react to this vid but thank you! The song really hits you in the feels. One of my most favorite is Whitney's performance, but for choir singing the 2015 Kentucky Choir's performance in a hotel is my top #1 because you can hear the power of many people singing in a hotel with voices echoing, you can tell how powerful the voices were vibrating through the whole building/ You don't have to react to this but I wanted to share their link: /watch?v=sZYVrt-7bpU&t=1s
Many Blessings to U!!.. Ur families and Ur Channel!!.. Thnk U so much for reacting to this unforgettable moment in the History of the United States.. I see now.. Thnx to U.. that our history..our freedom and our Independence is very SIMILAR... Thnk U so much.. We love U!!... ✌️❤️😎🇺🇲🙏🌎
The history of the flag and anthem are very important to us Americans! Thank you for being so kind! The musical arrangement of the Star Spangled Banner was altered slightly for this performance by Whitney Houston. It allowed her to sing it a little bit differently which was more emotional and inspiring to everyone. She could have sung the original arrangement and it would be one of the greatest renditions in our history. She sings effortlessly. She had a gift that was so special. And she loved her country! You can tell by how invested she is in the song. I love her rendition more than probably any that I have ever heard. Here in the U.S.A. we hear our anthem often. I love this song so much and Whitney makes me love it even more!
