Indie Sleaze Aesthetic and Digicam Photography Trend Analysis 

The digicam trend made me get back into photography. I have been shooting a Canon G2 and an Olympus C5050, and I have been loving it! Especially the flash photography, so I feel heard by watching this video :)

As a 41 year old who lived through it the first time around, I find this VERY endearing!

I also find that the indie sleaze era is so fitting for the Pluto in Scorpio generation! And, you can see with the Pluto in sag gen that shift were it changes imo in 2014-2016 where the oldest Gen Z were entering adulthood - I.e. ( IG baddie aesthetic, vsco/ that Clairo era (2017/2018)

Hi Nicole, I really liked your point of view on digicams, the aesthetics and the reasons for this trend around the world. I'm following all over the world and your video helped a lot. Here in Brazil I've noticed the return of digicams little by little - I'm a fan myself - but despite our difficulty in accessing these equipment, here it will also be a success. Being in high school ‘06-‘11, this was totally what I was into. I started listening to old school hip hop music (late 80s-early 90’s) and started adopting the aesthetic of those times..wearing door knocker earrings and gold chains and bright and neon colors. I think the indie sleaze/hipster aesthetic but particularly the street style of the mid 2000’s really took inspiration from that old school era. Digicams were great and of course uploading all random pics to MySpace. I think Facebook killed MySpace. I still have my Sanyo digital camera but I’m off to buy a digital camera again. my most recent camera purchase (2018?) was a compact digital camera! i bought it for travelling because my phone battery isn’t that reliable. before i got into film photography recently it was my go to camera, i’m not wild about indiesleaze though 😅

I have used a Holga and an Olympus mini Pen in the past. I also have an SX 70 but could never find film. When I discovered Instax I bought the Q1square and love it. Going to buy an EVO soon. Thank you for your videos

i agree 110% with you on this trend. i think digicams are going to make a huge comeback soon. I'm actually "switching" to digicams since being a big fan of film and expired film since 2007 or so. it just used to be way cheaper than it is now and for the quality you'd get compared to ease of use, it really was the best bang for your buck imo. i really really fucking miss just being able to walk into a CVS or walgreens and just get my photos developed in a couple of hours on a CD for like $5-$8. film has just become so cumbersome or expensive. even the expired rolls go for a ton now. back in 2019 you could get expired film for like 10 cents or less per exposure on eBay and now it's like 30-40 cents per at least. last time i got something developed and scanned at my local lab it was nearly $100. i tried sticking with film for so long cause i loved the look you can get with it but it seems like the only way to do it economically is to develop/scan yourself or send out 10+ rolls online & scanning them yourself. i mostly just end up using my phone and not really shooting as much cause trying to find a new lab isn't really fun and shooting on a phone doesn't feel like photography. i recently bought a ton of old digicams & a couple of newer ones. all point and shoots. i do love that these have fixed costs! also not a big fan of big heavy and annoying to use DSLRs. thanks for doing this channel! im thinking about starting my own and doing comparisons to iphones and stuff. glad to see other people feel similarly.

I love Digicams for that you pointed out... I used to just shoot film back in 06-08, but now the film prices are impossible to me.

I just bought a Nikon s210 because I saw a tiktok with grainy indie sleaze pics and it made me feel so nostalgic! I wanted to be a grungy indie hipster / twee girl so badly growing up (and I still do) but I was a couple years too young to really participate.

Digicams will be huge in a while ! Now it’s a good time to purchase on eBay or find at home an old CCD sensor’s digital camera from 2000s / 2010s ! I get a Canon G2 (amazing) and find out i already had an old Fujifilm S1500 but it shoots only jpeg. Btw it’s funny to try cheap and affordable tools to be creative and motivated in photography

Lately i'm shooting in an semi-old digicam but just because is very small and way less expensive than most new digital cameras.

Congrats Kodak and Fujifilm for gouging film photographers! Bravo! Hope this trend goes nuclear and you will get your what you deserve. It was a revival but you had to get greedy.

What about newer digicams? I'm torn between buying the minolta mn40wp new or an used canon g2

its true that we asians are somehow ahead in the trends, when we were into film, few years later film prices went up because of this. cheap digicams are the next film cameras. Its like we were going back in time then slowly going forwards. What's next? 2010's nostalgia trend? 1st gen iPhone trend? Sony Ericsson phones prices went up all of sudden!

Just bought a digicam (and bout to revive my own cam of that era)…kinda wanted to hop onto the hype train before it overtakes me. Also I am super fed up with Kodak raising prices but don’t even keep up with demand. I don’t mind film being more expensive to a certain degree, what really bothers me is that film is super unavailable and every time my local store stocks up, everyone just goes crazy and hoards it.

Don’t get rid of your old cell phones! Old cell phone photos could be huge someday too!
