After 10+ years of trying to learn how to make an arrowhead this video gets almost all the credit for me being able to make a point finally!

That was nice of you to mention JackCrafty. I watch as many of his as I can find. I also watch yours as I find them as well. I really appreciate the way you explain the platforms. That gives me more trouble than everything else. Thanks again !!

I just started knapping a few days ago and your videos are very instrumental in understanding how flakes travel.

Wear a glove or otherwise protect your support hand, I barely ever cut my support hand, but had an erratic flake cut me to the bone using this technique.

did direct percussion for 5 years and I could work that rock since I learned from chunks

Great video Greg. I too watch and learn from Jackcrafty. I'd say your at the upper level of flintknapping. Good Luck and keep these tutorials coming.

This makes me feel better about getting stuck on pieces that look just like your starting piece. I felt so wasteful that I couldn't fix pieces.

where do you support with your left hand? on the sides of where the flake will be or on the flake coming off?

hellochunn I've heard that using nails in sticks or dowels will break apart. But natives used antlers for this... check out Jim Wynn on RU-vid

20D, available through neolithics. com. Also, they now have copper rod in larger diameter sizes.

Your terminology needs work. "Blow thru this area" . How about reduce this mass, or use a bifacial reduction process removing this excess stone. " Blow right thru this area" just doesn't sound right. Also, if you prepare a platform carefully you can remove mass thru percussion using the correctly weighted hammer stone or antler. It's an excuse to be say you can only use indirect percussion to remove mass. It's due to a lack of knowledge & skill required when using direct percussion to remove mass from a stone.
