Indonesia's Capital is Disappearing 

I was born and raised in Jakarta, at the age of 30 about 10 years ago I decided to move out of Jakarta and settled in Sulawesi and started a business and today it is running smoothly. For everyone, don't be afraid to move out of Jakarta. Indonesia is vast and there are many opportunities that can be achieved.

It’s true that a lot of people in Jakarta don’t think this is a crucial issue. I once asked some people 4 years ago, is it still a good plan to buy a house in Jakarta knowing the city would be sinking in 50 years from now? nobody seem concern about that, let alone the real estate agents. People still believe, somehow, everything will be okay.

The whole northern Java coastal is sinking. Not only Jakarta.

And lastly..our main industrial product were natural gas lifting, coal processing, mineral processing & palm oil processing....for gas lifting is locate in Balikpapan east Borneo..mineral such as nickel locate in Morowali Sulawesi..copper locate in west Papua which is smelter locate in east Java...and for coal and palm oil...lots of that in Borneo

12:25 I agree with him, we need economic diversification. Jakarta is overpopulated. However, the construction of a new capital city does not necessarily solve Jakarta's problems. It took years for everything to work out. A good long term plan is necessary for things to get better.

why people do not worry of this, because we have heard that the city is sinking since Dutch era. And yet, it never happens at the rate we are expecting it to be. If anything, there are more and more reclaimed era in Northern Jakarta (though the new ones are being suspended because the previous city government was lost in court battle over the permit of newer reclaimed land), the Dutch governor general even lived further south at the suburb of Bogor (about 60 km away from his office 😅 during weekend). The one who abandoned North Jakarta (or Old Batavia) was the Dutch regime itself even since late 1800s. Most of Dutch goverment building was relocated to Weltevreden (now Gambir, part of Central Jakara). And South Jakarta which is even further south than Central Jakarta, is the creation of post-indepence development. And crazier fun fact is If it wasnt for The Great Depression of 1930s, the capital of Dutch East Indies would have been relocated far inland and into the mountains in Bandung region which is about 130-140 km away from current Central Jakarta. And no joking, many of Dutch armies military training establishment, the headquarter of Postal and Telecomunication services, and even the big central government building had been completed (now becoming the office for West Java governors). So the mindset of relocating capital city has been ingrained by the Dutch. We Indonesian merely copying it (just at more gradual level and further to the south). And also, most of People coming to Jakarta wants to live in Southern Suburb though. Thats where most wealthy Indonesians lived. I also lived (not in South Jakarta) but further south in the suburb of South Tangerang. Here, we do not really care much about sinking land. Flooding is only the issue of blocked or poor management stormwater system. At least it is not an enviromental one, thats why most residents do not talk about it, because simply they do not live it. And also here in Indonesia, we usually do not live away just because of some disaster but we lived through it. This region in Indonesia we are prone to tsunami hit, volcanic eruption, earthquakes, nasty diseases outbreak, and flooding since the dawn of human age far before people were talking about climate change. Thats another reason why most people were indifferent. Because Jakarta had been destroyed and rebuilt from scratch for multiple times by the natural disasters. Yet it survives all that and thrives.

In 70's the location of wall is also the sea on west Jakarta bay. People illegally built houses and reclamation it manualy then become a fishing villages and push the sea water to the east of Jakarta bay In 70s and 80's of center Jakarta bay asli has reclamation for Ancol park In 80's There is port reclamation project on east jakarta bay It push the sea water back to west Jakarta bay (fishing villages). So, the issues of Jakarta sink is not a new problem for us we call it abration. 60 % North area of Java island has abration problem. (Jakarta Cirebon Pekalongan Semarang Demak)

There is another 1 agenda that force the government to move to Borneo, there are tonnes of extremist in Java. This is biggest barrier to restrict the country to move on. Borneo consists of multi races and multi religions where people are more kind to another person who held different belief. This is what the Jakarta lack of. With the land sinking and extremists it is a good time to move the capital to different place to start over again. Indonesia gonna reborn and also deemed as the biggest emerging country among the world after it complete the move.

It is easy. We can reclaim it, just like what have done in other parts of North Coast Jakarta.

The Jakarta government is currently only thinking about transportation, never seeing the condition of the people or the houses on the beach. If I were governor of Jakarta, the first thing I would do was organize the Jakarta Bay area by building flats instead of landed houses and increasing green space in the area.

No way the land is sinking as a whole because of weight of the buildings. If it was then you would see cracks all over the city and building collapsing.

They have problems with the sewerage and clogging, that's all. I suppose alot of places over there dont have sewers at all and this leads to floods. Dont blame the sea because that's not the cause. It's that they have no plan to make the water go from point A to point B after storms and heavy rain that is the issue.

The main reason for the sinking of Jakarta area is the exploitation of underground water that causes the ground to lose volume, this also is due to the geology of the area. The contribution of the rising of sea level due to climate change is very small in comparison. If climate change was the main cause this would happen at other places in the world at the same rate and it's not. This happens in Jakarta because of local geology.

Why Indonesian people look like they don't have problem and always happy...it's because our land was so fertile...if we don't work in years but our garden have jackfruit tree, mango tree and casava tree...it's can sustain our living by consuming and selling it...and it's don't need ferlitizer and irigation...with Java as a fertile island inside ring of volcano and every years it's get much rain water..it's paradise actually
