Paul Page 'splains that the Indycars actually run all year, and have a season-long points championship. The "Nations Cup" is still around for folks who hated to see Indycars race on road and street courses. Personally, I never cared what country a driver was from. It's not like winning an Indycar race meant the country of their birth was going to be brave enough to launch nukes the next day, right? Besides, teams still hired US drivers back then.
OK, the race. Robbie leads for a bit, but sure looks like he's holding folks up. I was kind of stoked to see Al Jr. and Micheal get by, their fathers were a couple of my childhood heroes. OTOH..the sons were my age, and I was kind of pissed off that my own family had never even put me in a kart. :D
This old Corner Worker (marshal) is suddenly shocked to see that double yellows for a pace/safety car session was actually created so many years ago! '95? No damn wonder I've got shoulder cuff problems these days.Maybe I should have stopped working Pro Races just a bit earlier than I actually did.
Bobby Ray gets hit, but gets back out. Rough year for him, but at least they had that cool MGD commercial with the SAAB (the one with wings instead of tires..).
I really enjoy the thing at about 51min or so where they throw up the inboard split-screen. A dice from the inside is nice. Can't help but wonder why TV directors don't do that kind of thing these days.
Yellows put Robby back up front. Is it just me, or was Gordon one of the last guys who would climb into anything and go drive it? Baja Boy does Concrete Canyon. Kinda cool that he landed in a team that could do some strategy.
I have to admit: Watching '90s era CART has often sent me to the basement, looking for my old copy of "Indycar Racing II". Can't find it. But by now, there ought to be an emulator, right? :D
