I wish you did my wisdom teeth extraction. I got them done Thursday, and I didn’t even get any instructions of after care 🙄 I had to google and RU-vid it.
I removed my wisdom teeth 3 weeks ago, luckily, yes and I say luckily, 3 were impacted so they got stitched and sealed. The 4th one though, was left open. My dentist said I could just swish water for 5 minutes and the food would get dislodged and I don’t need a syringe. But I figured I wasn’t gonna get one so came prepared and I already ordered one and I showed it to them if I could use it. They said it was unnecessary but I could use it. Well; the swishing worked on the second week but then the food kept getting there and the only way to get it out was to use the syringe. My point is, I’m so glad I was prepared and I got myself some syringes because it’s so good at keeping the socket clean!!! If your dentist doesn’t give you one, get some for yourself anyways! Just don’t use it too quickly! And consult your dentist!
I wish I saw this comment when I got my wisdom teethe extracted. I thought the syringe was given after the removal. It is crazy with the amount that is paid and not a syringe for aftercare is not included
I almost lost my life after having all 4 of mine out the dr was negligent didn't even give me antibiotics nothing I ended up in ICU with sepsis. If u feel something is wrong DONT delay get a second opinion like I did it saved my life
I got one of my wisdom tooth removed 20 days ago, had a dry socket. I went back for treatment and it got better, however I still feel a little discomfort and today I started getting sensitivity on my front teeth. It's weird. Don't know what to do!
My post op sheet says not to use the syringe until the 7th day! On day 4 I looked in the lower sockets and they had soft food in them from day 2. Rinsing gently will not dislodge those food particles, so why in the world wasn't this addressed before the surgery or on the post-op sheet? Historically, the majority of my wisdom teeth infections/swelling have been from food being trapped at the gums for prolonged periods. I see no reason not to start using the cleaning syringe at day 4 while remaining slow to clean so not to dislodge the clot. Seems by the 7th day, a more aggressive clean could be done. Nonetheless, my lower left site is in pain and swelled, so here I am doing my own doctor work so this heals properly. How nice that the ones we pay, cannot give us a comprehensive guide to healing from the start. Thanks for the good info in the video.
I just got mine taken out last week. I wasnt scheduled for a follow up or anyhting until I called on the fifth day after surgery and I was in extream pain. I had that hard lump in my jaw and no swelling anywhere else. I was called in and the dentist imedieatly said "thats not right"and got me taken care of. I started antibiotics then we found out those werent working as well as we wanted so they put me under again to flush out the socket. I did not have any food stuck in the socket. Bacteria made its way into my socket and thats all. I am still on my journey to recovery but I hope this migth help somebody.
I'm not taking antibiotics, I'm on day 4. I think antibiotics kill good and bad bacteria so I only want to take them if I do get an infection. I'm not recommending doing this I'm not a doctor and I've only done surface level research, there are so many different types of antibiotics as well.
Had to have my gum abscess drained today, as well as extraction. To be fair before the procedure it was swollen for 4 days progressively getting worse and hurting more each day. Especially at night, but thankfully the dentist I went to was an oral surgeon and had no problem helping me out today. I was prescribed Amoxicillin as my antibiotic and ibuprofen as my painkiller from the ER. Ibuprofen didn’t help tbh but the dentist prescribed some hydrocodone and Chlorhexide Gluconate .12% oral rinse. They don’t want me rinsing my mouth until tomorrow. My job for today is to apply pressure to the empty spot where tooth was to hopefully create a blood clot. We’ll see how it goes from there.
My wisdom tooth was so big the Docter had to break my tooth in 4 pieces. My surgery took 40 mins more or less...day 3 pain is still there but not awful. It’s crazy to hear your tooth being Broken in your mouth
100% me too bud, my bottom ones were impacted like that x-ray behind the Dr. here. they had to use a drill, then took those pliers and broke them in my mouth....i didnt like that lol
My dentist inserted a Dry Socket Paste to keep my wound from getting infected after he removed my 3 stitches. He’s really good 41 years ha how can he not be excellent
I got mine taken out 2 1/2 weeks ago. My right cheek swole up like a balloon and I'm still bruised from it. The day after surgery my dentist instructed to use the mouth wash twice a day and last week I had my follow up and they gave me the syringe to flush where the stitches are and it's loosening up the stitches. I just can't wait to eat chips again
They rarely hand out preventative antibiotics in the UK, you have to get a bad infection first then suffer for a few days while they antibiotics kick in.
depending on the insurance company, it’s the same in the US 😂 at least in my experience. plus antibiotics are something you don’t want to take too many of, your body needs certain bacteria. so they’re typically only prescribed after an infection is present, except for extreme cases
I just got my teeth removed yesterday. Im disappointed and amazed at how the knowledge of my after care is more from me researching ahead of my appointment and not what's on the sheet that they gave me. They even looked confused when i asked will we be scheduling a follow up appointment. They forgot to schedule one and I will be calling to make sure there's a folllw up. Definitely going to share my thoughts with them on the lack of info on the aftercare sheet and how it should be the norm to follow up to make sure everything looks good especially if there are stitches. Doesn't matter if they are supposed to dissolve.
The X-ray here looks just like mine. I had my wisdom teeth and the teeth near to it and luckily my doctor was really good and followed the procedure as you described in your videos. Your videos are really good and I wanted some advise for after procedure precautions which are good ones advised by you. Thanks doc! From India.
I had all 4 my wisdom teeth pull out about 8 days ago. They never gave me much instructions just a sheet that looks like they printed it off Google, I always felt rushed in the office and they only gave me bandages, and antibiotics not a syringe or anything Didn't know I had to clean it
2 weeks after my wisdom teeth got removed, i swolled up a little bit again and i can feel pain coming from bottom ''hole''. I was on antibiotics for first 5 days, got my stiches removed after first week everything was fine. The pain only gets worse and it hurts quite a lot if i touch it. + theres a block spot on it. I figured it got infected but ofc i cant do anything about it cause its sunday. Pair that with me being hypohondric and you got a ruined day. This video was quite helpful and my symptoms check out, thanks.
started getting a horrible taste in my mouth and noticed my bottom left socket was the only one in pain still along with a knot. Going in tomorrow, great video doc, thanks.
@@AdrianaSanchez-hb1ql not a dry socket nor an infection. they said the knot was just swelling and the taste/smell is common. took me about a week and a half to get rid of the taste. it sucked but i made it through
@@jcucch4603 hey i am going through the same thing and it's weekend in my country cant go to my dentist , i've detected this bad liquid coming out of it non stop but no pain , was this your case too ?
I had two infections after my bottom wisdom teeth were removed. The second infection which was 5 wks after removal, the dr had to do a incision and drainage and put in a drainage tube. I had the rubber tube removed one week after and now I have a hole that’s still trying to close. It’s been 3 mths and still trying g to fully recover. I am 42 yrs old so I’m not sure if that had anything to do with it. I was warned many times at my cleanings I had to get them removed bc as you get older, you healing takes longer.
I had an obvious infection…pain and horrible tasting drainage after a large second molar extraction of a (healthy) tooth (it was scraping my cheek so the only option I was given was to extract it) last May. Went back to the dentist several times and he claimed it looked fine so referred me to an ENT. It was only then that I was prescribed antibiotics (by the ENT). Second dental opinion showed my jaw was missing where the extraction was done. It has been non stop pain. I do not want to go through oral surgery, nor should I have to. Wish I could turn back the clock and say NO to the extraction in the first place. My bite keeps changing also. Truly miserable. Need a miracle…
Got a molar removed. The molar or the jaw under it was infected for a long time, so i wanted it out, because i couldn't stand the pain. The doctor extracted it, the whole room stank because of the infected tissue in my mouth. I didn't got antibiotics after that, he didn't put anything into the hole, he hasn't cleaned the hole and of course, 12 days later, it hurts like it did before. Because doctors are doing the bare minimum sometimes.
My daughter is going through so much rn my heart breaks for her. She is 1 week post op today. Her face started swelling and green rushing out of the gum. They rinsed her out and then the left side did the same thing. She is feeling so sore. They didnt turn the nitrous on for her. I cant wait to see her relieved. She got a mouth rinse today with clindamycin instead of amox. I am praying this helps this time.
This doctor is thorough 👍 Doc, my dentist did not give me a syringe but I do have chlorhexadine. At 5 days should I use and how many days? I am on my 3rd day post op with tooth 32 and 1 extraction.
Hi doctor. My mom had her wisdom tooth extracted exactly a week ago and it’s been downhill ever since. She has not been able to open her mouth only a tad bit, and each day her throat area (assuming the lymph nodes) get more and more swollen. She looks like frog by the neck. She is on day two of antibiotics but so far no luck. She is miserable. Any idea if this is something far more worse than an infection? She will be going back to the dentist tomorrow
@@iceicebaby6533 so she actually had to end up getting admitted to the hospital for two days of IV antibiotics. Her incision where the tooth was pulled had healed so quickly they had no way to drain it so the infection was just accumulating in her chin/jaw area. Her jaw is still slights swollen and she can almost open all the way but she is muuuch better it definitely was a process tho…all because the doc should have prescribed her antibiotics as soon as he pulled the tooth but he said the infection was in the tooth only and now that it was gone she would be fine….WRONG lol
@@valitina1234 Oh wow, cause i have similar situation like her. I can't open my mouth or even talk i sounded like full stuff on my mouth and hurts when i swallow something got a lump on my neck and headaches Been taking antibiotics for 3 days now but the symptoms started 7 days ago. I wonder when did your mom started feeling better? cause i need to get back to school for exam
@@iceicebaby6533 it was a week before she went back in to the dentist then they sent her to the ER. In my moms case she just got started on the antibiotics too late. If your symptoms appear to be gettin worse, instead of better I would definitely go back to the dentist because you may need a different antibiotic or even a stronger dose! My moms lump on her neck kept getting bigger and she wasn’t able to open her mouth even pink width wide. I hope you get better soon!!! Sorry you are going thru this I know it’s miserable
My dentist didn’t prescribe me with antibiotics, didn’t give the me syringe which they said they would. 5 days later I woke up with baseball size cheeks. Infection with signs of sepsis. I’ve been in the hospital for the past 3 days dealing with this through IV antibiotics. Get those antibiotics and make sure to clean your wound!
May God bless you forever and ever sir, honestly. Thank you for taking years of school and practicing this career and creating this youtube channel just so people like me can stumble upon this and get a reliable and informative answer!
Just curious, does antibiotics and rinsing fix the infection or does it just make it better but it will never really be fixed unless you cut into the infected area?
I had the same issue it was a weird taste and smell. I bought the syringe on Amazon, filled it with salt water and I saw food come out from lunch I had the day before! The pain reduced significantly after I flushed out the debris and the smell and taste reduced to like 2 %
I removed mine 5 days ago it was better before i removed the tooth now I'm going through pains especially at night tomorrow I'm going to consult again i can't take it anymore
They told me I had a infection there before the wisdom teeth were extracted. After extraction they gave me no antibiotics and no antiseptic rinse. Said just rinse with salt water. The side that had the infection is like a balloon, huge knot inside on the left, and lymph node is swollen on that side. Clearly some Dentist are bone mechanics and some are actually Doctors. I'm going to see a Bio Dentist as clearly there's no respect given to how important removing infection is. This stuff can cause cancer and heart disease. Already starting to have heart palps now. What a mess
I just had a tooth extraction due to an abscess and the dentist didn't give me any antibiotics after. Now 9 days later there a hard bump where the abscess was and it feels filled with pressure and is giving me headaches. I'm trying to debate if I should call the dentist on Monday or wait longer. I'm afraid they'll have to do surgery again just because they didn't give me meds the first time. 🙄
Somehow I got an infection even though I made sure to clean thoroughly ✋🏼😭 my surgery to get the trapped food and puss out was done on Monday AND LET ME TELL YOU 😩 I had to be awake for it and I heard everything. I heard him like scraping my jaw bone to get everything out and as soon as I got home I started crying because the pain was 2 times worse than the pain you get from a normal wisdom teeth removal
@@NobodyzJelly they used local anesthesia after a few minutes I didn't even know he cut anything 😃 for some reason I got a flash back from when I was at the dentist and the only thing I felt was when he was putting the stitches on me
I had mine removed on 3 days ago and I never got an irrigation flusher to clean my incisions. The stitches popped out the first day, and while I have antibiotics, I am in chronic pain and I am afraid that it will get worse because my dentist didn't sow the threads together properly
I’m now 6 days post op and have thought I had an abscess/infection because I just feel sick, my entire jaw is tight and my head hurts at the temples. I have a small lump on one side but all my swelling is pretty much gone. My lymph nodes under my neck are swollen and for the past few days I’ve had an awful smell and taste from my mouth and had nausea and vomiting for a day. So I went back to the dentist yesterday and they told me everything is healing well. Didn’t do an xray or anything. They gave me this syringe to help me irrigate the sites with saltwater and that helped get out a ton of old food and crap that I couldn’t get out just by rinsing and brushing. So that helped with the smell. But I’m just wondering if I should go to another dentist to get a second opinion or just wait it out. Also I’ve been taking amoxicillin and ibuprofen
You should set up a class to teach these “reevaluated dentists” that are working now in days… I had my wisdom tooth extracted, I was only given gauze to change after 2 hours and was told to rinse my mouth after 4 hours with salt water. I then started gaining pain on the 3rd day and realized it’s a dry socket. After 4 weeks of pain and trying to get an appointment with the original dentist for a follow up, he tells me to not touch it and leave any food in there and that the meat healing from under will push it out. Now after 6 weeks I have an infection on the surface of the gums, I called the dentist and he’s telling me I’m a headache, I hung up and now trying to find another dentist in Glendale CA to go to.
It's not actually necessary to remove wisdom teeth. Unfortunately, like you, I found out, after the fact. I have been in pain for 2 months, after my wisdom tooth removal (which was inside my gum). My dentist, without even checking me out, said oh you're fine, it's normal. I went to another dentist, just like you, and he said my nerve is damaged, and that is what's causing all the pain.
@@youwishyouwere1ofone709 I don't know yet. A specialist (maxillofacial) removed my wisdom tooth. After this whole mess, I change my dentist and everything. This new dentist sent me to another maxillary. But my appointment is not until one week from today (7 days from today (Thursday).
@@absbse it swells on and off, parts of my jaw is still healing, all because it was a surgical procedure that required him to drill out the tooth in tiny pieces to work around a nerve that the tooth was too close to. As time goes by the lymph node puts up less and less of a fight and my jaw gets closer and closer to what it was before the surgery. It was described as one of the hardest surgical procedures ever performed to avoid permanent nerve damage. It was an extremely high risk procedure. It’s getting allot better but it’s one hell of a slow heal.
I have a pus pocket in my upper and lower back molars because when I had my wisdom teeth extracted years ago they didn't close it properly. It's been 3 years since my teeth were basically messed up by a dentist and I can't afford to find anyone to fix them or simply cut the pus pockets out of my gums. I've been on antibiotics since feb but no actions have been made to do anything which is not good for me because I have sickle cell disease. I just have no idea what to do anymore.
I got my wisdom teeth out last week and I have a like a bit of a hard lump on my bottom jaw where I believe my most impacted wisdom tooth was. Should I be worried that it’s an infection?
I just got my lower right wisdom tooth extracted 3 days ago. My gums is not swelling but there's a swelling around my neck that's why I cannot talk and eat properly until now (day 4). Hope this will end soon. Need to work. :(
Got my wisdom teeth removed wednesday, on friday i was back with the nastiest infection and they had to make in incision... since it was infected i felt everything they did even though they numbed the area. My face looked like i gained 100 pounds with the fattest cheeks and double chin. The swelling reached my neck so i felt i had to go... even now the doctor is surprised the infection got so bad so fast. Im also on antibiotics now and trying to research how the infection started. But my doctor says it can be normal since the mouth is the nastiest place to operate
I had my right side wisdom teeth taken out and also no syringe but salt water to rinse. I was given antibiotics twice a day for 10 days. Although my extraction sights feel sensitive to touch and by that I was brush my teeth and my tongue brushed the incision and that hurt. I do use the syringe w salt water to clean my sites bc they do have holes. It’s still sensitive to warm and cold. I saw my surgeon last week for 2 weeks post op and she said things looked good. Here I though when I had my left side done a few yrs back was traumatizing nope easy w no swelling or complications. I’m also 42 yrs old so I don’t know if that is also a contributing factor that healing is a slower process. I will likely try to see my surgeon this week if the pain persist w sensitivity. Blah
Hi, afteer the upper left wisdom teeth removal I have a connection with the sinus, after finishing the antibiotic I have green boogers with a very odd and bad smell. Don't know how to get rid of that. There is no pain, just the smell and the other sinus is fine. It will go away with time?
Yo I got 7 teeth removed 5 wisdom teeth, ( I had a wisdom tooth growing behind a wisdom tooth) and 2 broken teeth the roots were removed it's been about 15 days after my surgery I'm not in pain anymore ect when will it be safe to smoke again? I'm so paranoid to get a dry socket
I have read and did alot of research and it says depending on your body and what type of procedure you went through it takes 6 weeks to 4 months to properly heal i am completely nervous to start at all im barely 4 days post op and i only had 3 of my wisdom teeth removed 2 on bottom 1 on top and i have good sized holes in my mouth that i have to rinse and my doctor said just with these 2 holes could take 4 months to fully heal so im trying to never smoke again ! GOD be with you ! And my you recover fast in JESUS CHRIST'S NAME AMEN 🙏
See my doctor didn't tell me how I was supposed to rinse they just said to use a salt water rinse. When I asked about the syringes they gave me they said only to use them if I have a dry socket. But when I was looking to see like how much salt to water ratio I should do since I recently moved out and don't have measuring spoons, I found out that one of the syringes is meant for rinsing that area out.
I removed my wisdom teeth 4 days before and feel pain and smell from the open socket when i take brufen it gave me relief and i also rinse with little hot salt water how much time it takes to cure and reduce pain.
Just got mine done last afternoon. I took out 3. Not much pain as of now been about 20 hours. Just woo-zing like a rabid dog droll mostly today not much swelling I would say not bad. But right side hurts more as it was inside while the other side doesn’t feel much.
Do bone grafts eliminate the chance of food becoming trapped in the socket? Also, when you say "brush back there" you don't actually mean brush the socket right? Seems like that'd be bad for healing
It been 2-3 months i have removed by wisdom tooth .... everything was good ..but now i m feeling hardness and swelling ....wt is it ..and what should i do 😥😥😥
Only if my oral surgeon would explain this like you did. It’s been 6 or 7 weeks since my TA and now I’m seeing Pus coming out of there. I know it’s pus cause it hurts. My surgeon said sometimes the yellow like fluid is scab but what I’m dealing with isn’t scab It’s pus. Best thing for me to is get an X-ray done

@northtexasdentalsurgery day 7 and I have an infection. I'm on Amoxicillin & Metronidazole. He cut a flap and drained what he could. I'm putting warm compresses on it and it's slowing drying at home. If it doesn't get better I have to go see an oral surgeon. I wish he wouldn't prescribed antibiotics from the beginning. I had to get these from the ER on day 5. I'm just ready to be back to normal.
I had a impacted wisdom tooth removal last wednesday and now I seem to be having ear pain on that side. Is it normal, no other symptoms and am on my last antibiotic
I was prescribed Clindamycin 300 mg and iprofen to take 3 times breakfast/lunch/dinner after my meal after my wisdom tooth extraction, it’s currently the next day day 2 and right now I don’t feel any pain at all and the swelling is very small should I continue taking both these prescriptions or just stop and let me body heal on it’s own? I don’t see any infections just the black sewed up stitching he did on my gums
Keep on your course of antibiotics and pain meds. I’m on day 3, and the reason you don’t feel much pain is because of the meds. Do not stop them, you will regret it.
I got mine taken out yesterday and I'm about where you were. I've basically only taken their antibiotics and mouth rinse. No medications other than those...
