A lot of people are seeing how the film relates to overconsumption but I think it’s also a good representation of the stripping of individuality when it comes to tailoring our tastes (which is a form of self expression) to trends (which, most are short lived) rather than our own values, experiences, and communal subcultures as a part of our identity being well rounded individuals, not just dolls on a phone screen or poster.
That is true. Even trends kill creativity. Watching the short film of an influencer is sad. She has parasocial relationships with people who she does not know.
Just goes to show just how toxic social media can be, from causing mental stress to selling out, it doesn't change who we are and it only makes us feel worse.
@@DeltaPi314, Because a lot of us joined social media as young children, we didn't know the consequences until it was too late. While we are responsible for downloading social media, it is never OK to blame someone for being cyberbullied or feeling self-conscious about their body. The male and female beauty standard is literally propaganda; everywhere and inescapable, so the victims are not responsible for being affected by it. Everyone reacts to those ideals differently.
A former Facebook executive (Chamath Palihapitiya) even admitted he feels "tremendous guilt" for the damage they've done. “I think we have created tools that are ripping apart the social fabric of how society works," recommending people take a “hard break” from social media. “The short-term, dopamine-driven feedback loops we’ve created are destroying how society works,” he said, referring to online interactions driven by “hearts, likes, thumbs-up.” “No civil discourse, no cooperation; misinformation, mistruth.”
Honestly we have become so locked in our digital distractions that we sometimes forget that we are human beings that can be hurt. I can't even remember the last time I actually got significantly harmed. The only thing I've gotten is maybe a small paper cut, or some blood from a picked at scab.
I really loved the character just walking outside and sitting in her pile of unopened boxes. It was the best ending. She doesn’t get to escape the terrifying but ordinary hole she got herself stuck in. Idk how else to describe it.
I used to be a pornstar and social media influencer and now in recovery. I'm just making art analogue now, supporting my local community and trying to rehabilitating myself back into the "real world" it's crazy how it feels like you are sucked into another world. I am still on a path of recovery. The rise and fall of fame is not at all good for everyones mental health. This short film really captures the feeling of being sucked in.
@@DeltaPi314, If you're judging Shantikeet based on their former job as a porn star, then you're the one who should leave. They are making an effort to improve their life and help others, but you're here behind an anonymous identity trying to push them into the mud.
These are the type of short films my English teacher would play and make us write an essay on 😭 “what is the meaning of this video” I COULD GO ON FOR AGESSSS
I almost though t this was a vewn film. I love your art and the way this is animated. It feels weirdly cozy like an adult swim commercial or something.
this isn't really that important i don't think, but i LOVE the music used. the wacky, unrealistic sounding instrument sounds really add to the feeling that none of the stuff she's doing is really representative of her, it's all artificial. i immediately noticed them because i used those soundfonts for years using musescore 3 lol
the issue isn’t necessarily the platform. it’s whether or not you’re going into being a creator to CREATE or to be rewarded for your creations. the latter can sometimes result in this sort of circumstance
@@DeltaPi314, Well, all social media platforms have some kind of toxicity going on. RU-vid allows you to have full control of your own interests rather than it simply throwing stuff at you, although RU-vid Shorts is practically a TikTok clone. You can even turn off your watch history to disable your daily feed for less distractions, and I've seen one user say that they can actually learn useful skills info on here, but that you still have to be selective. Meanwhile, TikTok bombards you with videos the whole time and even ACCESSES your phone's mic when you're not looking.
Nice, youve taken expert amount of inspo from Vewn I see, though I hope this is mainly to help find your own style. Itll help get your name out as yourself instead of "creator who has Vewns style."! Youve got real concept, animation and storytelling potential here 😊
i do hope you continue experimenting with different creator's styles so you can find your own, don't limit yourself by only looking up to one artist - not only because other people can be nasty about it, but it could hinder your artistic journey. best of luck!
or the other story where she does make it as an influencer and accelerates down a path where everyone acts so positive and loving and supportive and she's too young to know that half are just fair-weather and the other are silent creeps it's a dangerous world out there, and nowadays you'll get snapped up and left behind before you realize that you have nothing left, not even self-respect.
Icon. You followed the principle of “show, don’t tell” very adeptly. I expect great things from you in the future. You could even go more surreal/trippy with it if you wanted to. Gunshot was very effective and caught me off guard.
Not only does this feel like a CalArts film from 2017-18, but it has a powerful, timeless message to go along with it. A message that hits close to home and is so urgent in a world more concerned with competition than self-expression. In high school, I was so concerned with trends that I often dug through my dad's wardrobe to find the "correct" drip. Now I pay for my own fashion and stay true to my own style based on my personal interests. I wouldn't have 2 Joy Division tees if I was too focused on staying "on trend." With that said, congrats on your first major motion picture, Soph! I can see that Vewn has played a role in your growth as an animator.
This sends a pang of sadness in me, as someone who has had bad experiences with social media. I feel as though the way you portray that people “must” buy and force themselves into popular and trending things to try and become popular, to fuel that desire for fame. This is a stunning animation with a stunning message, I love it!!
THIS IS SO SO SO FANTASTIC!!!! you're phenomenal at showcasing things without words and all the subtle details just add SO much!!! i see the vewn inspo and i LOVE it, i love the twist on the style you have with your own real personality to it
The story itself is alright, but i think it’s rather weird that the style looks so vewn-like. Same colors, same lineart technique, the trembling animation, the use of broken perspectives, even the intonation in voice dub is similar. And of course, a lot of text is used in scenes, this is what vewn often uses for storytelling. all of the listed similarities are normal individually, since we are always inspired by other artists before creating our own film. but when there are so many similarities in a row in one film, to me, it looks like a lack of originality, or even plagiarism. but despite this, I think the author has great potential, and I wish them to develop their own comfortable style, which will be recognizable by their name. anyways, great job
@@arden3544 Honestly yep. Uncomfortable is the word for it. If I was in class with this person I wouldn't laugh at any of the jokes or anything when she presents her work cause I'd just be looking at her like "do you realize what you've created?" It's still a great production and impressive she did this in under a month. Just the fact there's NO mention of the art she's copying is so wierd.
@@nickpancakes2630hey! i actually vocalized from the beginning of project conception that I was inspired by vewn and listed her films, including kittykat96, as inspo in my class. i also tagged her the in description here when I uploaded 😁 I was absolutely inspired by vewn for this film, however that doesn't take away from the fact this is still all my original work and storyline (besides music)!
everyone says that this looks like vewn and its kinda true, Its good have inspiration in other artist but if you copy someones entire style people will only remember you for doing the things like them, its better to build your own style and way to do your things, even so, I think this person is still a student, i guess theyre still experimenting
This was really good. I loved the story. I interpreted it as the rabbit hole you fall into as a influencer. I enjoyed watching the bows tying her down to the money, and the showing of hyper consumerism that comes with being influencer since you need to keep up with trends and of course wanting millions of views and likes. The end was perfect you get canceled and this “fake” life you created never really mattered.
wow.... the "influencer" is influenced. i think, sometimes, we forget why influencers are called "influencers". thank you sm for spreading this message.
What stuck out to me wasn’t the overconsumption or lack of individuality-what made me sad was she had already a good life-a steady job, place to live, beautiful face and figure. She didn’t need any of this. IMO the lesson is that life is better when you live slow and steady, and cherish what you have. Stay off TikTok and instagram- please.
Maybe our lives were never meant to be so full of the seemingly perfect images of others. We were made for more than the pursuit of a glamour that isn't even real.
Remember - you are loved! Jesus loved you and gave His life so you can be free because of Him! He died on the cross so we can be set free. He wants all of us to repent of our sins and be given a new life in Him! A life that is real and DOES point to a real paradise that we can have because Christ died to give it to us. He does to all who choose to believe in Him, trust Him and follow Him xx He will give us the power to ivercome sin in our lives today x He will never leave you nor forsake you xxx
THIS is exactly why I stopped allowing myself to go on social media during the week. The minute I tried it, I never went back. I only allow myself to go on it on the weekends, and when I do, it’s not even that fun or fulfilling. Ever since I stopped, I have felt so much more regulated and less overstimulated. It is really a game changer.
