I'm seeing a lot of "Eyeshadow is over" lately, lol. Then they'll proceed to contour and highlight their eye socket and lid ....guess what that is? It's shading the eye...eye...shadow, one could call it! Every week it's some new ridiculous proclamation. Thanks for another great short video essay! Here's to living in our own paradigms.

It's to get everyone to throw away their palettes ahead of the inevitable palette resurgence in 1.5 years, and because multicolor looks involving powders and brushes are hard for (anyone but especially) children to demo in a 15-second clip.

I actually wonder how many RU-vidrs that have said nonchalantly,"Omg, I don't know what it is, but I'm just not into eyeshadow lately...", actually have no idea why they say this...? Like, they have to know it's only because suddenly a Gen Alpha said eyeshadow is only for old people... right? Even then, I don't believe for a second the trend was started this way, I think companies are just choosing to focus on different insecurities so they can sell us new stuff for awhile. I thought maybe Korean trends were making their way further into the west, at first anyway, since they barely wear eyeshadow unless they're a kpop star lol, and even then... but if anything companies are leaning into skincare because marketing a bajillion step skincare routine can get pretty pricey.

Or I've seen some people apply blush high enough that it ends up on the eyelid... which is very pretty, I just did this today, but added a pale cream matte color to my browbone (something about my eye shape just doesn't look right if my browbone isn't a light color, I actually heavily prefer palettes with a good quality cream colored brow bone shade because of it) and some shimmer to my eyelid because even though a light matte shade on my lid can be pretty, it's like I can't just leave it alone, I must have glitter/shimmer/sparkles on my eyelid lol.

I wish everyone could hear this. I can't tell you how many times I bought this product or that chasing someone else's look and then regretting it - nothing ever looks the same with my olive undertones and features and it wasn't until I started trusting myself and my own eye that i felt confident and beautiful and embraced what makes me unique rather than cast it aside. Now I don't do my makeup for anyone else, just for me. Loving the hairstyle today also Kackie ❤

I am a school librarian, and I get that dopamine hit every time I match a student with a book they end up loving. I ask them questions about preferences and then go to my collection of thousands of novels, graphic novels, and nonfiction to choose three for consideration. They usually choose the first one I grabbed. Such satisfaction!!! Then they come back and ask for more. Or they ask for a specific topic or author or title, and I can walk right to the book and meet their need. Books are my jam, like makeup is yours, youngling, so we'll keep curating our collections and helping our people❤❤❤❤

As an oily skin person living in a warm country, matte makeup looks really natural on me. Dewy makeup/highlighter is only for special occasions when I know I will be taking it off within a couple of hours or in the dead of winter, otherwise I will look really sweaty.

Just remember those oils are both sun protective and wrinkle preventative. Used to be super oily but with menopause comes other “changes” and my skin has dried out considerably. I still look about 15 years younger though so just don’t go too ham on the matte or you’ll dry your skin and speed up your natural process. Whereas before creams sat heavy and greasy, especially back before gel and current formulations, now they work, unless it’s the dead of summer.

I'm 47 with Combination Oily Skin, enlarged pores from teenage acne, and I live next to the ocean in Oregon, USA where we border on 'Temperate Rainforest ' climate. Matte looks very skinlike natural on me also. Dewy formulas literally make me look greasy by my 10:30am morning coffee break! ❤

I am SO GLAD you pointed out that those of us who wear a uniform at work can use makeup to express our creativity! I wear and uniform and a mask at work, so my eyeshadow looks are what i focus on when going to work. The looks can come out subtle or glam - its whatever I'm feeling that morning. Oh, what you said about “full glam in daytime”… as a person who spent most of my life not even knowing how to use most makeup at all, and now I’m literally (as the oldest woman in the office) the only one who does not have tattoos ( and most of my coworkers have theirs on full display), I recently decided that wearing my makeup a bit “more” than my coworkers is nothing to be ashamed of, if it makes me happy.

I'm going to be 56 next month and I stopped wearing makeup in my early 40s because it scared me. Except for lipstick. I love an intense lip! I didn't want to look like I was trying to be 22 again. I have an autoimmune disease that attacks all the moisture producing glands in the body. My skin is a desert. Because I'm ill, I often have dark circles under my eyes and wanted to not look so tired. So I started watching makeup tutorials. My thumbnail is from maybe 3 weeks ago. I invested in some high quality makeup and have settled on a natural, light-coverage look. Maybe it's because I'm older but I don't feel the need to keep up with social media's definition of beauty. So wear what makes you happy. That's what I'm doing. And I think I look amazing. You do too.❤

I "discovered" your channel when you started the conversation about makeup and art with the similarities and differences, I used to guide myself by color theory as we do in art, but since you started to explain in those videos the difference...it clicked on me, and since then I follow you. Feels like the pieces are coming together, and I try to follow creators that add value and substance, not just a pretty review or that create an insecurity or need to buy X,Y,Z product to look your best... you are doing great! This hits home bigtime! Ive been realizing all my content is like an endless commercial to buy the newest stuff, with the exception of a few creators I follow (you being #1 on my list of actual valuable helpful education/information). Things I started doing earlier this week. 1. I've unfollowed several creators that give me ick... I was getting nothing out of it except them pushing everything... no education or information to help better my color choices or application techniques. 2. I've come to realize that the products I enjoy most are the ones I pick out myself and try without any influence... and I'm pretty damn good at it!💪 3. The thing I love about your content is you often say things like, if you have darker skin this might work for you or I have dry skin so if you have oily skin you might like this etc. I appreciate that information because I can use that to make my own decisions.

As a 42-year-old who has little interest in makeup, I somehow found myself on the makeup side of RU-vid. I have to say most content creators that I've run across are very thoughtful and do more than just show you how to put on makeup. They talk about the industry or controversies within it, which is super interesting. But I am so happy I stumbled across your page. Your attitude is a perfect fit for what I like to see. I really connected with this video and I loved it. I’m in the Air Force and I’ve been in almost 11 years. I used to be a hairdresser and although as I’ve aged I have changed up my makeup style a little, I’m recently rediscovering how much I love doing my makeup for ME. Obviously I can’t go too crazy with my looks but I’ve felt judged my whole career for wearing a full face of makeup in a male dominated field. I cared when I was younger and I don’t care anymore because I know what I bring to the table and being myself feels better then bowing to what women in maintenance jobs are typically expected to look like. Found you through HLP. I actually love your beauty content, even as a cool toned, medium deep, woman for the same reason I love Hannah’s fashion, style and budgeting, even though we are very different in aesthetic. What I love is that while you advocate for a product you like, you always explain where it might go wrong for others, and you explain why you like or don’t like a product in terms of function and niche. You both teach skills and critical thinking more than sell products. I never feel like I need to buy that specific product after watching you, especially your color theory videos which have been so helpful.

I am 50 and really love your channel. I have bought a lot of what you’ve shared and try to use your links…you introduced me to Westman Atelier and I’ve bought practically everything from WA. Also bought the Armani bronzer (huge pan). I’m high/low. Love the luxe and buy a lot of it, but I like finds that are affordable too, so I can recommend them to friends who are not as into skincare/makeup or just to cut down on my own spend. I have a small curated group of influencers that I follow. I appreciate the fact that you aren't always pushing whatever is new or trendy. I also appreciate that when you love a product, you keep using it. It drives me crazy when an influencer raves and raves about a new product, and then they never use it again. YES! I’ve been doing self regulation of content I watch since 2020, bye bye Facebook you are not missed. And it feels so good blocking someone on Insta because of ragebaiting or muting someone on YT because they are just annoying my eardrums, etc. It helped my mental health so much because I use social media to unwind and not to spend 10 minutes crafting comment explaining why they are wrong because their content made me angry. Nowadays, whenever my algorithm thinks I want to watch some ragebait post I click on the comment section and it reminds me why I stopped commenting if I don’t have anything nice to say or helpful to share. i can relate to this a lot & think it is part of the reason why i was “burnt out” from consuming beauty content these past couple of years. i’m really glad yours and a couple of other ppl’s contents is enjoyable for me to watch again, but at the same time i’ve noticed i still need to be in a certain “good enough” mood to even consume stuff i’m interested in instead of putting on anything beauty related for background entertainment like i used to do all the time in the late 2010s. i’d rather do my makeup in a way that’s fun for me but “wrong” to some tiktokers than try to keep up with the latest micro trends just for the sake of it and lose that joy again. of course, trying out new things is great but not when you can’t do it at your own pace and/or feel peer-pressured into doing them instead of intrinsically intrigued, and i think especially in the eye of fast-paced trends and constant new beauty drops it’s hard to lose sight of that sometimes.

This is something that I have noticed across the board on RU-vid, particularly in the luxury community and although I don’t take it personally myself and often it’s not even something that I do I’m shocked at watching some people put someone else down indirectly with their choice of words. Is it to make themselves sound better or to justify their own choices or just that they don’t realise how it sounds. All the while in that same breath they’re telling you to do you but their way is the right way. When you make a polite comment that disagrees with their way they then are offended 🤷🏼‍♀️ And 9 out of 10 times they are not professionals in the field, just someone voicing their opinions.

I made a big time (and expensive) mistake buying a Kjaer Weis blush that I have seen as the "it" blush from several influencers, and very much regret it. I also just very tenderly want to call out the fact that so many people get esthetic procedures now, that it's hard to trust the effectiveness of products when they are being reviewed by people that follow a facial maintenance regimen that I don't.

Loved this vid! Nodded my head in agreement several times watching. I recently unfollowed a beauty RU-vidr because of many of your points in this vid. Some of her vids were titled what products I hate. I personally don’t watch a vid to see products she hates. I know what I like…..I wanna see the product presented so I can make my own decision on a product. When a title of a video is product I hate…..it’s no go for me. I for one cannot stand the word hate…..that’s a very strong word for a flipping beauty product. Thanks for bringing these points to light!

Injustice Love You Kackie. Very well said. I started down the Rabbit Hole almost 3 yrs ago. Subscribing to the first umpteen I watched only to finally realize, that I do not trust them and or believe in them any longer after spending thousands in purchasing what they said: YOU AS A MORE MATURE WOMAN MUST HAVE THESE! , only to discover most didn’t not work at all as they promised. First let me say, you look extra gorgeous today (you look gorgeous every day). I agree with everything you said. I have been getting the ick factor lately. Latest one was a content creator who doesn’t really like perfumes, only a specific one really, and only buys travel sizes when she does purchase and then continues on with her promoting a perfume company because it is sponsoring her video, ick. Let’s face it, we all buy more than we need. But if I genuinely love something, I will buy it anyway for that reason. It has to be a hard balance as a creator between promoting products you absolutely love and how to use them to still needing to make money. I can just say I appreciate your creative and informative videos and the honest way in which you make them while staying true yourself. You suggested olive tones since everything was pulling orange on me. Today, i looked up my Armani silk. It does have an olive tone. This is the foundation i reach for all the time!! Thank you. Also, ...got my hair done yesterday (half of my hair is falling out because of three surgeries in a year). No discussion or mulling over what to do with my bleeched hair. This woman couldn't care less, and i felt it. I did take a minute to figure her out, though, because she let me bleech my hair 3 weeks after my last surgery. This is why i love your channel. I can feel that you care about giving the right RESEARCHED information to help us choose the right thing for our individual needs. Sometimes, i find it a tad hard to follow the logic when you get a bit enthusiastic, but i adore your colour theory "lessons." I learned from you that i am low contrast and have to find the more muted form of the colours i love!!

Here’s a note of appreciation for you, Kackie: You have changed! my! life! by introducing me to the concept of Chill Modern Classic + Modifier (via Tibi). Ever since I watched your video, I’ve been mulling over what my modifier would be. Is it… easy? Sporty? Not quite… And two days ago, it clicked. It is BUTCH Right now, I have a very stripped-down wardrobe and need to be building it out in the next year. And I would have made many mistakes with price tags attached had I not figured this out.
