If you liked this video, check out the next installment in my influencer series! It's about 2024's most problematic influencer trends and why influencer culture feels worse this year than ever before: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-F51W08LQ6xg.html
Same here. The space is so over saturated with creators and I have so many interests beyond beauty, there are only a few channels that are really able to earn my trust and capture my attention.
And that is smart, you are making your own informed decision. Kate posted a thumbnail of influencer faces and an inflammatory caption just to get people to click on her video which gives her views and/or subscribers. That is what she’s supposed to do to grow her channel. Everyone has an angle. If it was just information she wanted to give you, she could have achieved the same thing without calling people out, unless she has proof that a person is being deceptive, and probably would not have received as many view’s. Marlena Snell essentially did a similar video without calling out people. Which I get what you’re saying about needing to know the bad guys, but some of those people were not. I encourage you to watch Marlena’s video titled “stop buying makeup you don’t need” posted Sunday. Same message just not derogatory. I still love Kate everyone, and won’t stop watching her because I love her content. I’m simply saying that some of the people she called out have families to feed too and rely of YT as their only means of income. I guess my message is to make your own decisions about content, we are only influenced if we allow ourselves to be. Boy, such a can of worms!
@@RapK-fu2sh you’re misinterpreting the point, I have no issues with affiliate links, promo codes, or sponsorships. I do all of them myself! My issue is when ads are not disclosed and take advantage of viewers. As for promo codes and links, I said multiple times that I don’t have a problem with this, but that viewers need to be aware that it’s a sales tactic. It’s supposed to be a video that helps viewers to be more aware so they can take content with a grain of salt.
@@StateofKait I LOVE your videos, you're a treasure Kait! And OMG, Tati, 100%, you nailed it! I have to say, the fact that you started out this video with her is a testament to the entire subject of this video. She is the WORST of them. I've followed beauty influences for years now, mostly out of utter boredom, to escape the hell I live everyday with an abusive man, and I know alot about Tati. The scandals, her complete narcissism, it's disgusting. I stopped watching her about five years ago, after finding out how low she would sink to make a buck. It's utterly disgusting and I cannot believe that she has the amount of followers that she does. She's also impossible to watch, because she's so ADHD, she goes off on tangents, and she's so full of herself. Please never stop what you do Kait, you're so honest & such a natural beauty, Luv ya to pieces! 😘😘😘
@@lesliedemarco1691thank you for sharing, and for the kind words. I’m so sorry to hear about your relationship, I hope you are able to find safety and healing. Sending you big hugs 🩵
@@StateofKait Thank you. Maybe someday I will have a normal life. But most importantly, I'm so glad that you called these people out because what they are doing is disgusting, especially Tati. Thnx Kait!
I just saw this message somewhere: "Look around your house. This all used to be money." I mean, it's obvious, but I just never thought to do that, and it's a good reminder.
I'm newly diagnosed with autism and on my official diagnosis report it says, "does not show a variety of facial expressions." LOL. I have like two expressions.
I'm a guy, so I don't understand, so when I watch these skin routine vids, you girls really put that many things onto your face. I mean those Vogue and such videos, seems like Gwyneth and all the celebs put like 20 creams and other stuff onto their faces, like every day? How is that good for your skin? XD
@mydeershikaxoxoga Why do you say that? He does not have to understand. I am a woman, and I don't understand why there is a need for all that product.
It’s so eerie too how they all have the same voice and inflection when they say things like “I’m obseeeesssed” “you NEEEED this product!” Makes me kinda queasy not gonna lie
I just turned 50 and fall victim to anyone who says it will make my fine lines go away. After a year of trying everything, I have realized that I should embrace my fine lines, I earned them and use products that work on my skin issues and that is it! I loved this video. Thank you
Some mom on tiktok said her elementary school daughter was BULLIED at school bc she didn't have a real stanley water cup like other kids had. They ended up getting her a real stanley just so the bullying could finally stop. I know the time when you had to fit in & not stand out too much but this is so sad that we have come to this in this life time...
That was the perfect time for the mom to teach her daughter that you don’t need materialistic things to make you feel good or fit in. There’s always going to be something that other kids have that you don’t. Will the mom go out and buy the new “it” thing each time this happens? When you do that you reinforce to your child that yes, you DO, need these things to fit in. When I was growing up I really wanted a denim two piece outfit (super cool in the early 2000s). My mom did not go out and buy the outfit. Instead, she taught me how to create my own unique style instead of trying to fit in and look like everyone else. It was challenging to deal with as an 8th grader but it taught me to be an independent thinker. And now, I have such amazing style compared to my peers. I’m constantly complemented on my fashion and I owe it to my mom. It’s ok to make your kids uncomfortable, as long as their basic needs are being met. And a stanley cup or my denim outfit, are not basic needs. They’re wants.
Stanley cups are not a big thing at elementary schools where I live. Yet. As a teacher, I would ban them from my class if there is ANY bullying. My class, my rules. I usually do awareness before. Right now, crocs are very popular. First thing I'll say this year to my students and parents: If I have ONE complaint from one parent saying their kid is ridiculed for not having them, they will be banned. Done!
@@M----G-h2z The first water bottle the daughter had was from walmart but kids bullied her bc it' "fake stanley" & it was after Christmas so so many kids had gotten the "real one" as a gift. I'm glad we aren't seeing this huge stanley craze yet in my country (not from US)
Agreed! It's sad that social media is no longer a means of socializing but rather a place for every user to advertise something to other users. It's one long continuous loop of commercials.
I never realized how much money I have spent just from following influencers. I'm stopping now. I have more stuff than I need for the next ten years 😢😮
Same! The more a product has influencers talking about, the less likely I am to buy it. Often when screening for verified purchases or non-incentivized the reviews either go to zero, or you’ll see that many gave it 2 to 3 stars.
Came here to say this. Was watching the video on my husband’s account on our T.V. and got on my phone to give her a like. If you see this, thank you, Kait.
I am older, 42, I don't watch any of those people in the thumbnail. If you watch these "influencer" types it's very easy to get catch up buying stuff just to buy it. I prefer watching more intelligent video creators where they explain products and what you should be using for your skin type etc.
I agree, mikaela is the worst, how people trust and like her is puzzling to say the least! I'm also 42 and just can sense the bullshit as soon as I click on a certain video. X
I’m 45 and same, I just don’t understand the appeal of those fake accents, inflections, and surprised faces. That’s immediately a turn off. I want information about the product so that I can make an informed decision if I choose to buy something.
I’m in my 30s and I feel the same way, I prefer watching smaller creators that disclose whether something was sent to them and discuss the price point, ingredients etc. I’ve noticed the huge beauty influencers use sensationalism and fake energy to grab attention/views. I’m glad many of us are catching on. I do think the target audience are the teens and college kids that may make impulse purchases.
Id rather find out things on my own, like I read about retin-A in the late 80's, from a Scientific American magazine on a plane. It showed a picture of the 70 yr old scientist that invented it. Super smooth face! I was sold! Influencers, not at all, I do not trust them bc it's all about money. Total b s.
This goes so much deeper than buying stuff. This all lead to unrealistic expectations in such an insane way. I truly believe this is at least half of the cause of the rise in mental illness nowadays, mainly depression and anxiety. Unrealistic expectations have always been a problem for people but social media definitely set it over the edge. And like you I REFUSE to believe any of them live this way. It’s all too much.
Agree! It’s also causing people to try and “keep up with the Jones” and live beyond their means, which eventually puts them in debt, then spiral into depression. I know quite a few people who live beyond their means, in order to keep up with their friends. When, in reality, they are ALL putting themselves in debt
There is a reason why pretty much the only beauty influencers I still watch are James and Robert Welsh. They’re both hyper critical of brands and even when it’s a brand they love, they’ll tell you if they don’t like a product they’ve released.
Kait, this is seriously one of the biggest reasons I watch you. I know you will always be honest and don’t give positive reviews for everything which makes you more genuine. I feel like I know your preferences which helps me determine if something will or won’t work for me. I wish that instead of influencers who are fake getting rich off unsuspecting followers, it was the honest and real ones who did. Desperately wish integrity mattered more in this space. ❤
Agree 1000% abt the filters when selling products. That and lip filler. It’s so annoying when you’re just trying to get an idea of how a product will look on a real person with pores and normal lips.
I'm surprised that Kait didn't bring it up, but I do believe ALL tiktok uploads have a smoothing filter applied. I don't go on the site much, I go to RU-vid for deeper reviews.
I’m so glad that I’m a Gen X! I didn’t grow up with social media, having all of these micro trends constantly poking me, telling me how to look this week. Of course we wanted trendy, but the trends lasted longer and the ones selling them were models and celebrities - in magazines! I live in Sweden and growing up there were no commercials on Tv. I feel bad for children and young adults of today. They live in this constant noise telling them to have “ a glow up “ if they want to be accepted, buying all of the expensive skincare and makeup because “ it’s life changing “ ! Me, I’m too old to care about blueberry nails and looking cold. Thanks for a great video! 💕
@@coolchameleon21 Honestly, even as a zillenial, I feel like it used to be more possible to avoid the pressure. I was a weird little nerd as a teen, I exclusively hung out with other weird little nerds, so early instagram and whatnot all totally passed us by, but now these trends and rigid aesthetic expectations are just everywhere. There's no getting away from it anymore.
I’ve been influenced to buy so many underwhelming things. I’ve stopped watching influencers when I feel they are just trying to sell me something. I appreciate your honest reviews.
Thank you for sharing the actual examples instead of just vague descriptions! Also omg no the comments under tati’s videos are constantly about how good her skin is. I do NOT think most viewers realize she used a filter.
I think it’s more likely a camera setting that blurs her skin and very powerful lights. (But camera settings with beauty filters are just as frustrating to me)
This video is gold 💛 personally, I *cant stand* when influencers do the shock-face, the “omgggg I’m obsesseddddd”, etc. I have unfollowed a ton of people, and it’s starting to become very obvious to me when a channel is going down that direction. I want the real people, not the sold out people. I love your moral standards, thank you so much for being you and never waivering 🙏💪🏻
Top irritant for me is seeing an Influencer you know well and have been watching forever and they partner for a product you know damn well they don’t use and would never use. Stop ✋🏻
I assume everything on RU-vid is some form of paid advertisement. I’m so excited, I’m obsessed, can’t live without, life changing and so on. Take everything with a cup of salt!
This is one of THE best videos out there. Every young girl should have to watch this video before starting their internet, scrolling days. I have thought of every single one of your points while watching videos. I hope this video goes viral. Great job Kate!!!
thank you for opening up the conversation. I, very recently, came to accept that I very likely deal with impulse shopping. I took a step back to see what I was buying, why I was buying it, and how social media/RU-vid played a part in it. I notice that it is actually the dopamine hit I get when searching online and filling an online cart, that makes the biggest impact on me. Often times, when I receive my online purchases, I am not nearly as excited about it as when I shopped for it. It's a hard thing to admit to oneself but I am relieved I have, and now I can start to do the work to reverse this detrimental behavior.
I appreciate that you quote footage from real content creators! They are being full-time content creator as a profession, they are supposed to be held up to FTC regulations. It's their actual jobs.
I agree with you 100%! We have such a hyper consumeristic society and it’s sad how people don’t realize that if we always compare ourselves to others, we will never truly be happy
I have such sensitive skin, almost everything I've been "influenced" to buy is either rejected by my skin or it's... meh nothing special. I think my brain subconsciously tunes out recommendations now lol
I don’t follow many beauty channels at all, for the reason you’re saying. What I love is that you are always very honest about that works for you - who it might work for - and what you aren’t so thrilled with about products. Not hypocritical at all!
I love the Deal Guy. His entire channel is about just that deals. Not just Amazon(and yes, he discloses when it's an affiliate). However, he also discloses when the deal could be, or has been better or is currently better elsewhere.
This is one of the reasons why I have cut back my IG use to less than an hour a week. Some weeks, I don’t even check it. (And I don’t have FB, TT, etc.). I’ve gotten much more selective of the beauty content creators I follow on YT, as well. I saw your pinned comment, and I don’t feel that what you do is at all hypocritical, and I’ll tell you why - because I’ve seen you be ruthless. 🙌💃😅 And that is a GOOD thing! With the way the economy is and how many products are being released every day (every day!), I just don’t have the time, energy, or mental capacity to keep up with people who aren’t honest and are gaslighting me into buying products. Thanks for what you do!!❤
Every time I hear "You need this / You need to buy this " or any other form of that, it makes me not want to buy it. It's like when I see a celebrity I like endorsing a product and just go "Good for you " not bothering to check it out.
These thoughts have been so heavy on my mind lately! When Tati came back to RU-vid she wasn’t heavily influencing and now that’s all she’s doing is pushing products left and right. The ick is real with her and a few other people, Allie Glines sweet as can be but uses words like “life changing and you need this” 🙅🏻♀️ as soon as that wordage starts in out. I’m tired of being sold to
I commented something similar under one of Tati’s videos recently. It really makes me sad because she is my girl! But I cannot stand for this new phase of hers.
I watch Allie Glines because she has the same skin tone I do. I really like Allie's videos too. I think she is honest. This site--State of Kait--Allie Glines, and Risa Does Makeup are my favorites. There is something very honest and different about you, Kait. I appreciate that.
allie glines literally never gave a negative review in her entire life. i used to watch her so much and then it just hit me and i unsubscribed. it's like she wants to be nice to ALL the brands so they will keep her on their pr lists. so irritating
Tati has assumed she needs money because of the lawsuits and wanting to bring back her brand, she has been really honest about it. They are all on youtube to make money. This video thumbnail has all the right faces to make sure you click on it to get views and that is ok.
Im 55 yo and a skeptic with all the Influence-ing, even with more mature YTers. I think the beauty industry and beauty "space" thinks we're naive and gullible . Maybe because its because im just too old to fall for it all.
We must be or they wouldn’t be here. I call out hot flashy. She jumped the shark long ago for me. But I’ll admit to trying hating Chanel due to her. Now I don’t feel guilty returning products either.
I think it's also about the environment you have grown up in your life. I'm 34 and never fell for influencers, I have always been very skeptical too. Still, I've grown up with these influencers around, but I think that having a certain way of thinking in my family really helped me to stay away from them, so I think that the family we have plays a big part about how much "gullible" we're gonna be. My parents have always been very strict about buying things (we're poor people, never had money to throw away), and even though I have suffered from it sometimes (I tend to be maybe too much frugal like, sometimes I don't buy even things that are really necessary) at the same time it helped me to not buy things just because and to really think about it
Loads of the more mature influencers have taken the path of sell, sell, sell. One who comes to mind is Dressed For my Day. She went from being what I would consider fairly authentic to using her own daughter’s baby shower to market a brand! I used to have a laugh but that really crossed the line.
You hit the nail on the head. We all get sucked in and we sure need to remind ourselves of all of these things you point out. Good on you for having the coconuts to curate this video!
I LOVE this topic, especially from someone who is in the space. Ive mentioned it before, but you are my GO TO creator whenever it comes to trust. Your authentic, honest, and thorough reviews show your level of integrity to your audience. You are so easy to support because you can easily tell you don't just do this for the money. Your passion for this space always shines through and I am so grateful for you!
WOW... Respect to you! truer words have never been said. You know what the sad part is? Watching people who you been watching and enjoying their content for a LONG time becoming a used car salesman because at the end of the day money changes them and... as a result it changes the way they create content... and we the consumer, can smell it a mile away, and it stinks. Thanks so much for reminding us all of something we all know, but often forget curated content is not real... is an ADD
This topic is so important. I have more trust in content creators that show both sides, are critical and honest with reviews in that every product isn't spectacular, point out we don't need to buy everything, and to find items in our own collection to get similar results. You provide well balanced information and it's apparent you're goal is to create trust with your audience by your truthful reviews and topics your share. I appreciate you for sticking to your intentions with your platform! It's a breath of fresh air... Keep it coming! 💜💜💜
I really enjoyed this one, Kait! But I really, really REALLY wish there was a filter I could put on my phone so I never have to hear Mikayla’s voice ever again. 🙉🤪
@@victoriaveeart literally, BLOCK all these misleading "influencers", they don't exist anymore. problem solved. we control whether or not they can "influence" us or not!
There's one UK youtuber who i follow and although i love this person's style and personality, almost everything that they are wearing or mentioned in their video is gifted!! The costs of products and clothing mentioned are high end, which i personally can't afford.
I am so happy to see this video. This past year, being a noob at RU-vid fashion videos specifically, I have purchased so much crap that I don’t use, don’t need, because I fell for it. I felt old and drab turning 60 so I bought makeup and clothes to make myself feel better. And now being in the algorithm, that’s all I get fed which is why your channel showed up. But thank you. I enjoyed your video and I have also come to terms with being happy and comfortable in my own skin, my own style and really appreciate your authenticity as well!
This was very eye opening. I think I knew it, but I didn't really fully think about it this way. Once you see it, you can't unsee it. Thanks for the excellent video.
Yay, that was my goal in sharing this! I wasn’t sure if this was super obvious or if it could help people re-frame the way they interact with content (including mine.)
Ever since my fav creators started talking about people not disclosing sponsored content, I see it ALLLLL the time and it really puts a sour taste in my mouth, even if I really like the creator and generally trust them
I honestly buy most of my products when I see a lot of influencers have them in their empties videos. If they repurchase something over and over again I can feel confident that they really do like it and it isn’t sponsored. I have always liked those products too and those influencers have similar skin as me and complexion I think that is also key. If your 45 don’t run out and buy something a 19yr old loves like an under eye concealer. Loved this video. Great information ❤
This is why I follow you! Honesty. Real life. Because no one is perfect. I literally decluttered so much stuff because your videos inspire me to make smarter choices.
I've said this elsewhere, but the system is broken. I've seen influencers receive PR and say things like, "I wanted so badly to like this," "I tried so hard to make this work," "I love the team at this brand, so I feel bad saying something negative about this," "While I don't like this product, I like these other products from this brand." There's an obvious influence on a creator's review if they receive a product for free.
Definitely, but there's an extra layer that adds context to this. Yes, influencers don't want to sour their relationships with brands, but it also concerns online judgment. We get hate if we aren't overly nice about a product. You'd be surprised by how many people will absolutely flip out if you don't like a product or brand that they like. At the beginning of my channel, SO many people accused me of being a b*tch because I was completely unfiltered in my thoughts. Now, I have more of a "customer service" mindset and I think that's relevant to the conversation too. All of it is at play.
What influencers do not realise is that the brands will come and go but what will remain is their face and the channel. It doesn't hurt to be a little more honest
I absolutely hate when there is a sale on and it's the only videos you see on ur feed, it fries my brain. Especially with amazon as the price hardly changes on prime days to a normal day. I'm already dreading the sephora sale recommendations videos for the Christmas season lol! Great video as always x
I can add something here- I went to high school with one of the biggest beauty influencers here. She claims to be years older than she is to make herself look better. So others would buy what she recommends. Probably others are also doing this but I just don’t personally know them
@@StateofKait let’s say you told everyone that you are 45! But of course you are not😂Everyone thinks how great you look, they want to use what you’re using! So they buy everything you recommend and she pockets the money
@StateofKait The fact that you were so genuinely candid about how you were worried about being hypocritical is such a beautiful thing to see online. I really appreciate your transparency when talking things out, you go back and forth just like I do and that really helps me to identify and feel safe watching you. You rock, Kait ♥️
I am so over social media bc of these exact points in your video! I appreciate your authenticity. Tbh.... it is so refreshing that you are keeping it real and calling out those in the beauty community who think that they are so above us that they can just deceive us. Especially from the beauty community and sale creators. This was such an imperative video! Thank you!
Absolutely brilliant. This video should be shown to people as young as middle and high schoolers, many of whom are already 'influenced' consumers. Media literacy and critical thinking skills have always been important, but it seems more challenging than ever these days.
Love it. Especially the last segment. Influencers are curating this dream life image and we're prone to thinking this is actually what will bring us happiness. I would love to see more people talking as honestly as you do. You're great!
you make very insightful and valid points. even as someone that considers themselves quite media literate, i still found myself learning some things. you do a good job of not demonising things or people or tactics, but bringing attention to them as most people are not aware of the undercurrents of social media. thank you for this! and love that you included some social symone. she’s a great reality check when i want to overspend 😂
I bow my hat to you for this video! Amen to every single thing you said. I have enough age and wisdom to now even sense who is a "seller" and who's authentic. Unfortunately the youngsters are the biggest victims of this digital world marketing
I’m personally frustrated with being sold to in every video I watch on RU-vid. I’ve stopped watching many RU-vidrs, such as Michelle Wang, House of Valentina, and Nikki La Rose, because they constantly promote products, encourage purchases, and include links in their description boxes to earn additional income. It feels like everyone is focused on consumption, which is ridiculous! As a result, I’m gradually reducing my viewership of many RU-vidrs.
@Michellewang has gotten sooooo bad with her hauls of expensive stuff and extravagant lifestyle. Used to be a fan when she was more accessible, but not now.
I was so put off the July Amazon prime day from the huge amount of videos I was seeing pop up - it really felt inflated this time. And especially one face spray serum - when I see the same product getting the same talking points and love at the same time I’m like …. really? Think I’m much more cynical of the space now than when I started consuming this content a decade ago
Agreed, the sales were very underwhelming too. Most stuff was 10-20% off max and that was only if you went through the curated pages. I’m not in the US though so that could have contributed.
Something that really helped me with not giving in to purchasing all this stuff anymore was keeping in mind my impact on the environment. Having the awareness whenever I shop of how much plastic I will waste depending on what I purchase narrows down my decisions so much and I feel like I do not have a shopping addiction anymore lol!
I love this Kait. I’ve recently put myself on a no buy because I just have too much makeup and I’m just a regular gal working remotely and don’t even wear makeup everyday.❤
It absolutely grinds my gears when someone is very clearly doing an ad, or was at least gifted products from a brand, but they never verbally state that it's an ad, it's never mentioned in the video, and at the VERY BOTTOM of the description/caption: "brand x kindly provided products/this video was in collaboration with brand x", etc. Like I have zero issue with people doing sponsorships. But I have major issues with not properly disclosing relationship you have with brands. Imo whenever someone isn't upfront, it instantly discredits any recommendations they give. Thank you Kait for always being so straightforward and honest! You're a real breath of fresh air in the mass of brands and influencers doing this whole pay-to-play nonsense.
Even Lisa Jauregui of BK Beauty didn’t reveal a sponsorship on a video she did about a “top” foundation. I could tell it was sponsored. She mentioned the full product name 4x in the video and would show the bottle multiple times. Never did she mention a sponsorship or put the flag about a paid sponsorship or even say she partnered with the brand at the start of the video. I looked in the description box and you had to HUNT for it. It was buried in between a bunch of other text that indeed the video was sponsored. I think influencers like to test out if they get more views and hits on their links if they don’t reveal it. Lisa also does reveal it in other videos, but that one she absolutely did not. I also believe she filtered out comments with key words like sponsorship. Lisa is a super “trusted” influencer and if she did that who else does? That was some months ago, but probably was not more than a year ago. She knows full well the requirements. I will not follow her anymore.
Ya, I’ve found her to seem disingenuous as well…I too stopped following her Having her brushes and videos involved with so many other “creator/friends” made me really feel cringe about her
@@AliseL22aweee Lisa is a very nice person. I met her at a meet and greet in Vegas a few years ago. She is really a good person. I’m simply a follower and she continues to reach out and reply to my stories or simply sending a birthday wish. Sure, she may know how sell things but I feel she’s honest with her reviews.
LOL I just got a YT ad while watching your video talking about how perfect and amazing a particular shirt is and how I need to buy it. While I know ads are shoved in our face constantly, your video is still such a great reminder of the influencer culture we live in and how to be more conscious of it. Well done! 👏🏻
Kait, please keep being the authentic you - this is what drew me to your channel. Smart, honest, and intelligent!!!! Beautiful goes without saying!!! Keep on keeping it real!!!
I really loved this video. I definitely haven’t fallen victim to this. I so appreciate you trying to keep us grounded and not fall for the hype and fomo. I definitely need to follow some accounts and just stick to those who really keep it real.
I remember buying the Calvin Klein jeans when they came out. I was talking to my mother about why those jeans were so much better than other jeans. I even convinced myself. I outgrew that pretty quickly. I did wear the ballet shoes for a long time even though they were so uncomfortable. Now I'm into comfort. Thank you for this video, Kait. It's really an eye-opener.
I really enjoyed this, was well done and said. 👏 However, Miss Simone @28:01 with the “used car sales(person)” reference… Now, THAT was a game-changer (for me) 🤯🗣️💯
Whenever I see a new hyped up product pop up on my feed, I always look to see if you have a review. I appreciate your honesty. Not every product is AMAZING, and it brings so much excitement. Thank you for being consistent and giving fair assessments of all products.
Wow, Kait! Thank you so much for this. I respect and trust you so much! I needed this because it does get depressing at times... I work full time, I have a lot of bills... I struggle and it's nice to be reminded that's all normal vs seeing these influencers and feeling envious or feelingless than.
This is most refreshing video I have seen in a while. The pressure to produce, the pressure to consume, the pressure to keep up is the most stress I have ever felt. My ACTUAL job feels less stressful. Thank you so much for your honesty and real take on content and consumerism. “Don’t be a rich girl Aesthetic, be a rich girl” ❤
To be honest I don't like watching videos that I know are sponsored. Part of my aversion is the waste of materials companies use for promotional packaging. It's usually over the top and so excessive. Who needs a lip gloss collection packaged in what looks like a set of books? It's really ridiculous. Also, I find if I really have a passion for something it's much more rewarding and satisfying to share with others without gaining monetary benefit from it. I have been considered an influencer in the past so this has been true for me.
I hear ya. I’m actually trying to find a sponsor for all of my videos moving forward so I understand if you need to unfollow. I’m looking for non-beauty sponsors like interesting apps that can be regular sponsors to help keep my channel going. As a viewer, I’ve always considered sponsored content like a tv commercial. If a creator is giving me free content then I have no problem with them having a sponsor, but it better be a good ad or brand.
