As a current diesel tech, it makes my heart feel good that your freshening up the engine and making sure its completely a 100%. I personally could care less if you did the chrome and other stuff first, just glad to see your doing it. Keep up the good work man, love how its coming along.

When you yank the rods and pistons, make sure you keep them together, number them 1 through 6 ( 1 will be the piston in front, working your way to the back of the engine) and make sure you have a way of knowing the fronts of pistons and rods ( Pistons are most times marked with an arrow denoting the front),as they will have to be re-installed in the same orientation. In fact,it would be a good idea to send those piston and rod combos to the machine shop and have them check the rods for straightness and also to check the top ends and re-bush if necessary. Hopefully your rebuild kit will come with new sleeves and,if it does, remember that when you install each one,you will have to check the protrusion on each as you install them and make sure they protrude above the block to factory spec before re-installing the heads. Make sure your pushrods are straight and in good shape. One more bit of advice: Get some 1 gallon Zip-Loc bags, put bolts in those according to where they came from and mark the bags. It could suck to go to put this thing together and be staring at a million little bolts and widgets, trying to remember where they came from.

Just a suggestion, get you a Cummins head bolt stretch gauge if your not replacing them. The gauge is simple and will let you know if there in spec. I would also pull the oil cooler and at least rod it out. It's easy to do with a filler rod. I fixed a truck once that had been thru 3 shops trying to fix an overheating issue and that's what the culprit was. Good luck

Well I haven't been into an in chassis overhaul for years now but at the old shop I worked at if we started teardown on a Monday we usually were firing it up by Friday afternoon to first thing Saturday morning, shakedown run and cutting the truck loose on that afternoon, typically 40 to 48 hours. That was either for the N-14 Cummins engines or the 60 series Detroits that were in the trucking fleet.

When I went to diesel school they had a international 9670 cabover. It was a setback axle coe and it had the same motor u are working on. The big part u took you took off that had rust water in it is called a water manifold.i was a good truck but the fuel filter below the water manifold always leaked fuel. Make u sure check that and replace filter . Good job so far

I hope you know what you're getting into. You can get a better exhaust manifold that will do a better job. Don't forget to get the oil cooler off and built. Also, you'll have to use different heads if you're going to put Jakes on it. You'll use studs instead of bolts for the boxes. Lots of things that need to be checked.

The head you had on the back of the truck towards the end of the video looked like it had witness marks where the gasket fire ring had been leaking. Difficult to tell properly as the camera didn’t stay static for long enough to be able to tell but the dark staining outside of the cylinder/gasket fire ring diameter is usually signs of a blown gasket. Could have been your misfire.

If you’re planing on doing new liners make sure you get the right tolerances for deck height and pre-torque them before dropping any new pistons in or installing heads . I know it’s time consuming but it’s the right way to do it , if you don’t know what I’m saying you should ask a diesel tech to help you , and goes without saying to clean really good the inside bottom of the block where the liners seal with the engine block !! Sometimes it gets a little rusted down there and the liner seals don’t seat very good ..
