Something I am seriously considering for my 250+ years old cottage in Cumbria.

As an Electrician I would like to post a caution. lights globes are normally a max of 100 watts whereas these panels are 700 watts each, which is likely to overload your circuits. These panels should only be connected to power circuits (2.5 mm cable) I will refer to Australia only as I am not licensed for any other country. Light circuits are wired in either 1.0mm (older houses) or 1.5mm cable, 240-volt circuits which are only designed to carry 10 amps (restricted by RCD/CB) Older house tend to have only 1 light circuit whereas newer house may have 2 light circuits. 3 x 700 watt panels run at max will draw 3 amps each....which only leaves 1 amp for running lights around the rest of the house (1 x light circuit) If the cable is not protected by an RCD/CB combo or Circuit Breaker then the cabling may overheat and cause a fire to start in the ceiling space.

having put 2 of these in my villa in Spain, both mine were 500 watt and put on the wall, found them expensive to run and just take the chill off, much better was my aircon running on heat, this does work and is cheaper, but you can install gas central heating using large propane cylinders for €2400 which keeps the whole house warm and cheaper than electric
@daniel_coe
@daniel_coe Год назад
They are on a dual electric tariff where they can choose their cheap hours, so could just run them in between those hours. Plus they don't live in Spain full time, so only use when they are there for a month at a time.

I saw they had air con asked the same question, the trouble is a lot of people don't realise that Aircon warms as well as cools.

It's like any work you have done their is always a wholesale and retail price , they probably only paid between €150. & € 200 for each of the panel's maybe € 200 for all the other bits and pieces. € 800. Altogether and the rest profit. It's one off those if your capable you can do it yourself, if your not you pay the prise. I see you have air con in the rooms you do know you can heat your room with Aircon as well as cool. Nic

Good for a new build. Too much disruption to install in existing house for me. Not sure existing UK twin and earth 1.5mm lighting cable would be sufficient for a 700 watt heating panel, though! Think UK installers recommend wiring into a ring main using 2.5mm twin andearth.
@nicwilkin4743
@nicwilkin4743 7 месяцев назад
1.5 mm cable 15amp will carry a max of 3600 watts you would be able run up to a max of 5 x700watt heaters.

We just installed 15 panels in our home in Ireland, and LOVE THEM. We use smart regulators to run them, called IR Sun Regulator. Our home has never been warmer and no more stinky boiler, maintenance, or faulty old rads. 15 year warranty on our panels from Ekosen (based in Slovenia and serving all of Europe)

This is interesting, do they have a supplier in Ireland? How did you know how many panels or did they have a sales rep etc???

@@ronancarr we purchased ours through Infrared Heating Ireland - they did a site visit and measured, etc for the proper placement and wattage of each panel. Great company and their customer support is A+.

@@KevinWPruitt great thanks, I have seen them on line. Great to hear from someone happy with this type of heating. We are really considering going this avenue with out rebuilt of a cottage. It's very open plan now and will have vaulted ceilings so perfect for the panels .

Did they use standard DIY LED strips for said installation? If yes, You might be able to replace it with COB led strips [which give WAAY more light] [30W power/5M at 100%]

I couldn't quite tell, but they are not super bright LEDs. More of a glow

I can't comment too much as I don't go to Spain in the winter. But my parents love them, mainly because they don't like the dry blowing air of fan heaters.

@@daniel_coe Do you think the technology is suitable to replace the heating system in a UK house, in as much as can they really heat a room on a v cold day?

Crazy idea, heat rises, we have them in our timeshare in Scotland, very inefficient and will not warm the rooms up sufficiently, definitely would not recommend.
