Denkyira was first rose to power before Akwamu & Asantes and as a matter of fact Asante paid dues to Denkyira until they rebelled again Denkyira to conquer them.
@@adomemmanuel9860 You're mistaking, if you refer to Akan as an ethnic group, then Asante, Nzema, Fante and all the others become tribes of their own. Tribes are subsets of an ethnic group. However, the first statement is almost correct, almost nobody living in the Ahafo region refers to himself as "Ahafo", most of them see themselves as Asantes and Bonos and there are also a lot of people from all other tribes in the Ahafo region. There's nothing like "Ahafo" tribe, they're Asantes and Bonos
To put it down, the Akan are a meta ethnic group with each peoples in it, such as the Asante and Fantes, being their own ethnic group inside of an ethnic group. The Abusua, or ebusua if you speak Fante Twi, are tribes
That is correct. All the groups in the Western region are mixed groups made up of Akan and Guan except Wassa. And the so called Akan of Cote d'ivoire are mixed groups mainly of Guan and Akan, except Abron. However Guan, Akan or whatsoever we are Africans so we are family!!
@Gingerbreadman GanjaFarmer . You are confusing yourself and everyone here. The Guans, the Akuapims and the latte people are the same people, just different names. Some people call the Ashanti's kotoko or twi people too. However, it doesn't mean they are different people. The Nzema's are a different tribe. Stop confusing yourself and everyone here.
@Gingerbreadman GanjaFarmer . Guans are part of the Mossi family. Akans and Mossi people are practically the same people. We are genetically siblings with the Mossi people. The Ashanti's knew this and have kept an intact relationship with the Mossi people up to date. Akans, Mossi and Madinga speaking people are Bawa's children according to history. Bawa's children settled in Ghana, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Chad, Niger, Togo, Senegal/ Gambia, Northern Nigeria and Mali. These countries have similar languages and have similar dress codes, customs and traditions. We are three siblings spread across these African countries.
My last name is Quamina i am from baltimore md my family doesn’t know our history past my grandfather. If someone could me help lead me to an amswer it would be greatly appreciated!!! I just want to know our history
Your name Quamina is from the Fante tribe, the Fante people are mainly located in the Central and Western coastal regions of Ghana. You can start your search there..hope this helps.
U are fanti from the Ghana Fantis called it QUAMINA whiles Ashantis called it KWABENA Quamina is an fanti male born on Tuesday and ur name KWABENA or Quamina
Note, some of the groups on your list are Guans not Akans. It was actually Gonja people (a Guan group) who brought the Akans to Bono. Guans have been in the region since 100BC.
The origins of the Akan is hotly contested. The other theory, besides the one which mentioned the ancient Ghana origins, is that they are indigenous to the southern areas of Ghana and developed their unique cultural traits within the area. You can find that in a book called "Ghana: A concise history from pre-colonial times to the 20th century" by D.E.K Amenumey.
Ghana Local, exactly. Another source says that Akans have been for the last 3.000 years. I am also thinking that Akans are probaby the ones lived at the Kintampo Complex which is the first settlement in West Africa.
@African Truth it might have actually been the Guan people's who lived in the Kintampo complex, seeing as they are the oldest known ethnic people's who lived in modern day Ghana
@foam3132 You are right! The Guans are the first. It is not 3000 years. Credible archeological evidence shows that the Akans originally migrated from the Lake Chad area.
@Mohammed Bapalori Ninya Ok. Buh I first I wanna know which race are u before I reply u cos a lotta of other race hates to hear this truth buh it shall be revealed so soon by Jah soon Inshallah. Long live Africa and Wakanda 4ever.
@@Redhunter19 keep you're Rasta pocomania to JA. Akan culture is originally polytheistic and no way connected to the ethno tribal monotheism of Israel. Btwy, I'm of Jamaican-Cuban origins...
Who told you? Few Akans can be found all the way to Benin. Why do you think they have names like Kwasi, Kwame, Mensah, etc...in those countries. Of course, they spell their names differently due to the French language but the same names.
@@myAfricanAffairs What you're saying is a FALSEHOOD. If there were Akans in Benin, we would've known by now, as they'd themselves surely make Akans in Ghana aware. There are no Akans in Benin; get that outta your head. With regard to the names, which we all know originates from days of the week, I've seen some Akans formulate all kinds of ridiculous interpretations to the name of the days of the week, but here is some crucial thing to help you grasp something: Akans call Saturday MEMINIDA, and they struggle to give an interpretation of it, but Ewes call Saturday MAMLEDAGBE. Now, find an Ewe/Ewoe and ask them what is the meaning of the word MAMLE. When you get it, you will know why Saturday is the LAST day of the week, and why MEMINIDA is a corruption of MAMLEDAGBE.
@@maceligarr how could you be so dumb? Which person from Akan couldn't interpret Memeneda? Your whole comment doesn't make any damn sense. How did the get names such as Kofi, Mensah, Mansa, Kwame, etc...in Togo and Benin if there's no trace of Akans?
