Inglewood Mayor James T. Butts joined KTLA 5 Morning News to discuss the pending closure of 5 public schools. Annie Rose Ramos reports. March 21 2024. KTLA 5 News - Keeping Southern Californians informed since 1947.
This man has sold out Inglewood. All those school closures are where developers are putting up luxury homes and apartments. Especially Kelso. That school is right in the path of the new Metro Rail on Prarie street. It's a dam shame.
Budget shortage? How is this possible when you have all major stadiums and venues located in Inglewood. They should now be flushed with cash. Also businesses should be doing well there due to all the traffic in the area. Clearly the corruption of the leadership in the city. This is what happens when you vote base on race rather than the most qualified person for the role.
Parents do not want their kids in Inglewood Unified. Most of these kids are enrolled at Torrance Unified, Santa Monica Unified, etc. It's the poor administration overall that has brought this onto this outcome. Playing with each child's future is a shame.
What is the mayor talking about, "Growing the district." There is an unincorporated LA county that's west of Inglewood called Lennox. Inglewood has taken great strides in not allowing those children participation into the Inglewood Unified School District. Seems to me, that with the current gentrification the City of Inglewood is experiencing. It's gone from a working class family community it has always been. To an exclusive earning bracket it wants to portray it's self to be. Please... Not on the backs to the residents that's needs the city to work for them. Keep those schools open.
So it has nothing to do with the people mover ? Or what about the Olympics coming? Or what about the World Cup ? Or what about hosting a second Superbowl?
It’s happening to small districts in LA county. There are no students anymore. Think about it, people are waiting longer to have kids. Hence, everything is expensive. Therefore, families are having 1 or 2 kids and done.
1:25 It’s a real shame that Inglewood has to close these schools. Although, maybe it will help spotlight the city’s declining attendance and low grade scores. If anything, this city has two NFL teams and many first class performers that are showcased at SoFi and the owners of those teams and the facility should be big supporters of the community’s need to raise the bar for local kids who want a chance to appear on the center stage of success and lift their home town’s credibility.
it's not that they don't teach, it's that the kids don't learn. parents aren't involved in what their children are doing at school. parents drop off their kids with a phone and expect results without any effort.
That's exactly what parents have done. Transferred their kids to Torrance Unified, Santa Monica Unified, etc. The school board, administrators, teachers, etc, all failed these kids over and over. It's the obvious reason they have low enrollments while their neighboring school districts are soaring.
The Mayor just explained how low enrollment is not cost effective to keep these empty schools open and students will be bused or have to go to another Inglewood school.
Their needs to be more effort put into blocking this, im sure som initiative can be formed. That stadium was a petition they formed and mayor butts stamped it. These people are compromised.
Long as those closed-down schools don't get repurposed as "convenient" housing for a growing illegal workforce that should've been dealt with the very moment that Texas governor finally said "Enough!" and clamped down on his state's southern border not too long ago, I honestly have no issues with this Inglewood mayor's latest course of action. Matter of fact, anything that gets nearly 3 generations' worth of stagnant community growth flushed out of that area in favor of actual money flowing back in for the first time since the post-WWII era (when 'well-to-do' white folks still made up the majority of Inglewood residents, mind you) should be encouraged. And to those on here that don't like it, too damn bad. Blame yourselves for making the city council's decision to gentrify you right out of its long-term plans a VERY easy one for a change, lol... 🤑👋
Another one ,bum Mayor u build stadium s u cant fix 5 little schools ,how much are those football tickets, this guy needs to go 13 years of nothing sorry didn't the lottery donate 219 million to California schools this week alone, can somebody calculate the last 13 years of lottery winnings in California, and tell me when the last time Inglewood got cal lottery money , aint no damm reason those schools should like a Catholic school with free uniforms
@@piko5uave You are probably correct. No concerned or interest in their students. However, they are demanding more money for the kids they don't teach. It's all good.
