1998: rain looks better. 2002: the cars look better.

The old one looks alot more handmade at some scenes , and I like it

cars - battle stage rain - first stage +things (like people and stuff) - first stage expression on faces - both good grapfics - battle stage overall - BOTH FUCKING GOOD

Battle Stage had the best implementation of 3D by actually making the races seem as realistic as possible. However the OG still has better directional impact and sexy 2D. It had the better (iconic) selection of Eurobeat too.

0:48 - 1:21 one of the rare instances where drift battles are animated with hand drawn animation instead of 3D

First stage looks darker, so it makes rain look really heavy and Takumi's skills more impressive

I love the drawn scenes.

The non CG parts give me the chills because it feels so much more intense- I wish more of Initial D could have been like that

Both are amazing. First Stage is top-tier out of all the Initial D Stages. All I need from this battle is the Eurobeat - NIGHT OF FIRE. Non-negotiable.

Unpopular opinion: Because I watched Battle Stage around 100 times in my childhood, I personally prefer the Battle Stage beats over the OG.

Now we need somebody to edit them together so we have the updated cgi with the hand drawn shots.

1998 Has some better camera angles that make it look more intense than the battle stage, like when the S14 is sliding to the outside, it doesn't look like they are gripping in 1998 compared to the battle stage.

I love how in then first stage nothing looked right and all then car molds werent in proportion

I think Kenta's S14 changing colour is just for cosmetic purposes , his car dint really change colour , the darkness of his S14 is to put the focus on the 86 instead of his S14

Battle Stage looks better without a doubt. The scenes from the anime are way too inconsistent with some being drawn and others being CGI. The visuals also look way cleaner as well. The rain is much more visible in the 1998 version but it doesn't look right because it was simply drawn on, the rain droplets on the cars and the splashing of the water around the wheels look much nicer in the battle stage. The lighting, camera angles, world, and models also look much better overall in the battle stage. Overall I think the battle stage did a better job. I don't care about Night of Fire.
