Do not overtake until the final section (of course 1-ryu conditions require you to overtake during the latter half of the race (section 3 and 4), when chou 1-ryu conditions require you to overtake at the latter half of the latter half of the race (section 4)), any overtake earlier than that and you get a 2-ryu. Of course, if I were the player, I'd jump at the hairpins that are unguarded from the inside, while still giving Takumi a sizeable lead (it is a requirement when you race at Irohazaka if you want to be fast, just find ANY Specialist run of the track). And at section 4, I used the blind attack (which I learned after getting a 2-ryu against Tomoyuki), with only the car's misfiring system as some sort of a light beacon (because the flames from the exhaust will either briefly light up the track behind the car or help identify my car in the dark).

I don't see any jump. That technique is exclusive to Kai and Ken Kogashiwa (Kai's dad). Takumi merely slid at that hairpin (watch his movement in slow motion if you don't believe me)
