Tried out the Floatwheel ADV Pro at the skatepark and wanted to give some initial thoughts. There are many pros and several cons, but overall.. it's an incredible board! Consider getting it if you're a first time vesc'er want a completely packaged board without having to source all indv parts, especially bms etc. Or just to add another quiver in your vesc arsenal.
It's just vesc vs vesc moving forward now!!
Big shoutout to my homie Eamon O'Connor for graciously lending me his floatwheel!! More trail tests and tuning to come..

Agreed with your review. Out-of-the-box, Floatwheel beats the GT. And, most importantly, all the issues are addressable. Regarding brittle plastic, I emailed Tony about a crack in my footpad screw hole and 1 week later I received new replacement footpads and bumpers. No charge. Thanks for the video and the review.

Out of the box miles above the gt! To me the gt is completely outdated compared to adv and diy vesc, it's outperformed in every category of torque, range and speed. Like u said, Tony is wholeheartedly backing up his products with replacements and prompt service. Refreshing to support open source and competition. Glad to hear you're enjoying it too!

I have what seems to be the only working ADV in San Francisco right now. ~300 miles on it and I have certainly ripped all the hills; makes it up the steepest one I know of without issue. Even without feathering at max duty cycle, I can easily pass GTs going up hills and even keep up with the slower EUCs. I haven't even really pushed it to the true limit yet. My average city range (down to safe 65V) is 23 miles. If you can figure out crypto, there is no reason to buy a GT anymore.

I've had a Pint-X for almost 2 years now. Been thinking about a GT for the last year or so, but with some things regarding FM, right to repair, and sketchy repairs I've heard I'm hesitant to want to support them buying a GT. Been thinking about one of these, but my main concern is support, spare parts, durability and aftermarket.
@fazer2747
@fazer2747 Год назад
I have a GT and it’s freakin awesome. Floatwheel is in China and if something goes wrong with your board you’d have to fix it yourself, diy style. It’s sketchy also that they only accept crypto currency. What’s up with that?
@smp3d97
@smp3d97 Год назад
@@fazer2747 It's due to trade laws and Future Motion suing anyone with a similar design.... Just another reason not to support them in my opinion. They do not opporate their business in a way that supports the community.
@MaxxSend
@MaxxSend 11 месяцев назад
If you are a mellow rider and don't need the highest in performance, a GT is a good way to go. However if there's any issues you'll most likely have to mail in the entire board for the to inspect, and better make sure you don't have any aftermarket parts on there.. Floatwheel has the highest performing specs of a one-wheeled device, fully sends you the parts to repair, and with their tutorial videos it's really not that difficult. Biggest downside is waiting for the parts which takes 30-45 days. But when your FM board goes into the queue it takes around the same time for you to get it back. Floatwheel is responsive and backs up their product 110%.
@MaxxSend
@MaxxSend 11 месяцев назад
GT is great for certain riders no doubt. If you have any issues with FW they send you the parts and by following their tutorial vids, it's really not that difficult. If you don't prefer to work on your board you can find a local ow repair shop to help you. They only accept bitcoin cuz FM has always been trying to shut them down in the US. They feel threatened by FW because of their innovation.

@MaxxSend
@MaxxSend Год назад
@@MrDmadness just FYI, directly from Tony: "6. First 200 Motors Too Torquey: They are wound to the same configuration as the hypercore, actually. The reason it feels slow compared to the GT is that it uses magnets that are way too high spec. On the GT, you can take one magnet out to measure, it’s around 1750Gs, which means it’s a N30-N35 magnet. The Adv is a N42H magnet, which measures 1929Gs in the center. On top of the higher-grade magnet, this thing is thicker, longer, wider than the hypercore’s magnet. So, the flux is 1.6x hypercore. With this magnet, it comes with great torque, but the magnet also generates massive BEMF. So, it doesn’t run fast without field weakening. Field weakening is basically injecting current into the Q axis to create a magnetic field to fight against the BEMF generated by the motor. So with 80A field weakening, you’ll find the motor can actually spin faster than the GT but sacrifices efficiency at higher speeds. The first batch of motors will be really efficient around 20mph, which is the speed I ride longer distances at. I purposely set it this way so the range is good even with a bigger ass motor. But since you guys like higher speed, it doesn’t hurt me to swap to 135 new design motors. It doesn’t really hurt your torque, though. It just needs 20% more current to generate the same torque as Batch 1 motors. So, expect the ESC to run hotter than the Batch 1 motors. In terms of accelerating performance, the new motor will feel more like a GT, which picks up speed quite fast but with higher torque to keep your nose from scraping."

Got a couple of questions you might be able to help with, do you know when they will fix the cut out because of the bms issues? Can you plug a super flux motor straight into this or do you need to mod the board or controller at all?
@andrzejz8316
@andrzejz8316 Год назад
@theonewheeler What BMS issues? If you are talking about cutouts caused by cells / pack voltage out of range then this is expected and as designed. With BMS on the discharge path you really need to have smart BMS talking to controller to do tiltback, so rider can stop before cutout
