More factory pin tires for 1.9 class rigs? Woohoo!
Finally, no more 'cut-n-shut' at the workbench with scissors, super glue and perfectly good 2.2" tires going under the knife. After looking at RC4WD's version last time (link below), today we're checking out INJORA's version of 1.9" competition pin tires. And once again, they'll be tested on the perfect candidate, the Axial Capra UTB18.
This is not a sponsored video. I paid for both these and the RC4WD tires and I have no preference for who wins. It's all about raw performance - like you, I want to run the best I can get on the comp rigs, please!
Let's test!

Try venting tire @6 o'clock and 12 o'clock and injora green silicone inserts in front and blue in rear. If rear is to firm you can cut some ribs off the inserts.

Thanks. I've actually got my own TPU inserts I've been developing for various tires over the last week or so. I'll revisit these tires with some designs and we'll find a good combo. Cheers for the idea!

Thanks! I did look into that today. It's currently still quite new and I can buy 8x rc4wd tires or 12x injora tires for the cost of a single power hobby set (including shipping in all cases). Thinking about it but it may be a much much to be practical!

Great video, you should try putting the front tires on the rear, rear on front . I'm finding having the Front stiffer for steering accuracy and the rear softer to conform over the rocks
@RCTNT
@RCTNT 8 месяцев назад
Thanks. I have tried that but I don't like it. I want it firmer in the rear to help push it up and over obstacles, while I want the front softer to bite and grab undulations in the rock to help pull it forward. That suits my driving. Glad you're testing and finding your way forward, that's great!

Make sure you have a heavier rig, like 5lb at least, and I think you'll be very satisfied with it.
@gibsonlife573

Is there anything like the smaller ones I tell you now if you cut the tires in a zigzag pattern like say you got five on each side Take 5 off on the right go to the left skip down a row take that off and then keep going back and forth like that skipping a roll on each side man that makes them just top-notch
@RCTNT
@RCTNT 7 месяцев назад
That would help, though I suspect this tire is still going to be too stiff for a sub 1kg rig!

If Injora can duplicate their 1.0 tires to a 1.9 they will definitely get my$ some of the 1.0 tires I have of theirs are very very good. I’ve got J Concepts 4.1 tires on my UTB with 1.9 beadlocks of course. I just put in the Furitek electronics & that’s what I was waiting for to really transform it now it’s a whole new game with it in. We just had time change here in Cali so the days will now be shorter ending my after work runs but I’ll find a way to get out the Fall cool days are super nice so it’s all good. 👍
@RCTNT
@RCTNT 8 месяцев назад
Oh yeah? That's interesting. I only have a few sets of the 1.0 tires but its an area that interests me. Glad you've been enjoying it and also enjoying your very modified UTB18! Enjoy the Autumn evenings then :)
@Br0rB
@Br0rB 8 месяцев назад
Absolutely agree. Injora has two 1.9 tires in their S3 compound, and apparently those are pretty good. And they have these comp pins in S4. I have several sets of their 1.0 tires in S5, and they are really, really nice. I run them on weighted wheels and my own diy 3D printed inserts, and those tires on my SCX24s can do stuff no tiny truck should be able to. If they release some more of their 1.9 tires in S3, or maybe even S4 (like the comp pins shown here), they should be really good. It would be interesting to see a 1.9 S5 tires as well, but I'm worried it would be too soft, and wear out super quickly.
@RCTNT
@RCTNT 8 месяцев назад
I'd like these to be softer, at least on my lightweight rig. S5 vote from me! They've only gotta last a season and for the price I'd be super keen.
@Br0rB
@Br0rB 8 месяцев назад
@@RCTNT btw, Craig, would you be interested in trying out some 3D printed inserts? I have a design I have been printing, after months of designing, failing, trying again, and finally coming up with something that works great in my rigs. It's a dual stage/dual compound insert that I do in soft and a medium-soft. I sent a set to Crawler Canyon a little while back, and he was really happy with them. At the moment I only have a 1.9/4.75 that's all done, but I'm working on other sizes as well, and planning to have them done before the next season starts here in Norway - so March/April. :)
@RCTNT
@RCTNT 8 месяцев назад
Sure, happy to check them out. TPU are they? I have a design I've been tinkering with, on and off, for like 6 years at this point. Really need to get around to finishing it! Happy to try whatever you've got, sure. Just be aware that when I eventually finish my set I'll very likely be giving the print model away, as I've done for all my other models to date. I'm not looking at it as competition, just as adding to choice. If you're selling yours, that's 100% fine with me, and I'll happily include a link to wherever you're selling the model or the insert. Cheers!

How do you think these two pin tires compare to the HB Rover 1.9 (98.5mm)? Have you tried those? I see a lot of the mini comp rigs running them. Great content as always, thanks.
@RCTNT
@RCTNT 5 месяцев назад
Good question. The Rover was the go-to for out of the box mini tires. Diy pins were the gold standard (and possibly still are, though the gap is closing). I should test therm here first, but in my estimation the RC4WD pins are a better choice than the Rovers in most cases. Where the Rovers will probably do better than any pins is on slippery surfaces, moss, mud, wet rock, anything of that nature. For regular crawling, pins will do the best. The RC4WD pins aren't quite as good as diy pins, but they sure are close!

Crawler canyon raved about those injoras, and then raved even more, once he stuffed them with new injora silicone inserts, blue. But he was driving grey sendero. It kinda gets to me after conflicting reviews, that watching revieslws can be so misleading, because for sure you guys have completely different rocks and challenges, plus canyon uses a lot of concrete, which is not found in nature very often, I find. So for trailing and nature comping folks, the tires behaviour can be very different. I don't think many people realize that, but it's really important. On top of that, crawler canyon testing ground is pretty much limiting his message to people that spend most of their time in artificial RC parks/playgrounds.
@RCTNT
@RCTNT 7 месяцев назад
If it helps, I think these tires would be excellent with a heavier rig, such as the grey Sendero. The car I tested these with weighs under 1KG, which is really light! I bet if I ran them under a heavier rig they would be very good indeed. I think both outcomes are probably compatible, when you take this into account.

Are they tires only for rock or would it be ok in the dirt as well
@RCTNT
@RCTNT 8 месяцев назад
That's an interesting question, because buggies traditionally have pin tires. Firstly, would they work on fast cars? The answer lies in foams and compounds; faster vehicles have firmer foams and tire compounds, while crawler pins will be very soft. They might survive on a fast car for a little while, but gee they'd wear quick! Would probably fold over at speed on corners, too, I'd think. Side walls will be too tall, etc. Back to crawlers: if we're talking about different surfaces, pin tires are really only for rock. They'd be okay on dirt at low speed, but the many scale options out there will be better. Have a look at my Trail Tire Test from 2021 to see.

Ok cause where I stay is more clay soft dirt and some rocks here and there
@RCTNT

I think you'd benefit more from a tread pattern that performs well in wet and dry. Some of the Proline stuff is quite good there, like Hyrax and BFG Krawlers, for example.

I used hyrax the only thing is one of mine torn so rn just using some injora tires that came with my rims and there alright
@RCTNT
@RCTNT 8 месяцев назад
Ah that's no good. Though I've repaired torn tires many times and one of my rigs had two gaping slashes in the front side walls. Fixed with super glue and then was used to win national championship 5 years ago. Tires can be fixed, though once they break, the need for repair becomes a bit constant!
