In this video coach John Shepherd (www.johnshepher...) looks at various exercises that you can do to beat injury. You'll see examples of bare foot drills, Swiss ball exercises, core exercises and numerous other drills which Coach Shepherd uses throughout the training year. Note: these exercises as well as helping combat injury will also strengthen and create stronger foundations for more event specific exercises and actual event performance. It's important to do these consistently and not only when you are recovering from an injury.

Great video coach. As an athlete, I catch myself rushing through my warm-up and mobility routines in order to get to the "fun" training (weights, plyos, sprints). Do you have any videos and/or plans to make a video on how to icrease joint stiffness and tendon elasticity? Had some time off from training and feel as though I have lost some bounce in my tendons & joints.

TCFBRP I think you'll find the majority of coach Johns videos will talk about stiffness. It's kind his own personal crusade. 😅

Hey Coach, I’m a month away from my championship and I run the 100 and 200. So far I’ve done strength and some general condition with some sprints here and there. What do you suggest as a game plan for training for the next month leading upto the championship ?

Thanks for the video, John. Do your athletes do Nordic eccentric hamstring curls? I know that some coaches like to use them as a means of preventing hamstring injury, while other coaches say that it makes the hamstring tendons of their athletes sore for too many days afterwards, which interferes with subsequent training sessions.

No not really... there’s quite a bit of conflicting research with the NHC ... some positive, some negative. For example in football more injuries occurred in players who utilised they exercise. It certainly tests the eccentric capabilities of the hamstrings ... I’ve found that the leg cycling drills that we do seem to protect the athletes - I think as I said in the video we’ve had very few of any jam strains. I like Swiss ball ham curls for a gym based/type conditioning exercise ... less of a legacy of soreness compared to the Nordic... thanks for your comment 👍🏽

@@Johnshepherdtrackcoach Thanks for your reply, John. In the video, your athletes demonstrated double leg Swiss ball ham curls. Do any of them do single leg Swiss ball ham curls (both the eccentric and concentric portions)?

gothops Yes, we will vary the options. I'd say that for my main group Swiss ball ham curls are a fairly regular inclusion. The mainstay of hamstring protection, however, would be the various leg cycling, sprint drill types.

In the beginning of videos all the exercises r pre training??? Plz mention as 1 2 3 exercises

Hi, thanks for the comment. All the exercises in this video could be used/are pre-training exercises in that they strengthen soft tissue in a way that can build a base for the more dynamic specific exercises. So, the lunges, the balance drills and the Swiss ball drills ... hope this makes sense. Think about what areas of your body need strengthening and then work on them ...
