They said it was selectively edited, and taken out of context, but were courteous enough to provide a link to this video. He explained that in poor countries, parents tend to have more babies because they consider that as dependant resources in the future. But the issue is in poor countries, there are poor conditions of living, poor hygiene, and lots of diseases which infect large number of kids and end up dying. Most parents have between 4-6 kids due lack of education. This will make it harder for the parents to afford and provide for these kids that many die of poverty. So by vaccines and educating on controlling birth rate, parents in poor countries have less kids but healthy. This is what he meant. But of course a guy who scored 1590/1600 on an SAT test is not going to simplify the equation. There's barely enough for current numbers and there won't be enough if demographic expansion continues. Note that not every kind of food can be produced on any kind of soil, let alone "cultivating" deserts or mountains. Also, converting too much land into arable land would severely destabilize some ecosystems, some in an irreversible manner [at least short-term]; deforestation is not even an option, let alone a viable one. We need demographic stabilization, and we need it ASAP - no killings involved, just responsible reproduction. You're right about the renewable energy though. A solar field the size of Switzerland could provide for the entire planet.

Quality over quantity. Food is far from the only issue that affects living standards. 10 billion people will never be able to live decent lives on the long term, let alone 20 billion. The planet has fragile ecosystems to be preserved, some people get greedy etc. It's basically a utopia: reality simply doesn't work like SimCity [by solely managing markets].

Pigs with 6:1 of cows/beef with like 8:1 seem already bad but then you go to chicken which are more like 25:1. Then look at "farmed" fish, feed mostly by wild captured, small fish hacked up to fish-food. Here we are talking >30:1 conversion rates. So yeah, if we could reduce the animal protein intake substantialy we would not only be able to feed everybody but get rid of one of the biggest climate gas emission sourses. What he’s saying is that better healthcare will make parents have less of a reason to have so many children. Before we had medicine today people had way more children (anywhere from 2 to 7 or more) because they knew not all of them would survive because of all the diseases that didn’t have vaccines at the time. Now with even better medicine parents will have only 1-2 children because they know they will be safe. Vaccines don’t depopulate like you want to think he’s saying; they slow down the POPULATION GROWTH RATE. It will not protect you from breathing in other people’s breath but it stops your germs/viruses from escaping. He mentions a reduction in the rate of increase, through better living conditions, meaning people choose to have less children. Is that what you're getting mixed up with?
