Watch the Upgrades to this Outfeed Table: • Folding Outfeed Table ...
In this woodworking video, I show you how to build an innovative outfeed table for your table saw.
Most table saws will benefit from a few accessories to make them safer and more convenient to use, like for wood to feed out the back of the saw, like a roller type stand, or even better, a outfeed table which is what I am building today, with some heavy duty, folding shelf brackets.

Neat, I have only a small table saw, from a local store. It has thin metal side extensions, in order to give me more room, garage isn't too wide, I put these sides on hinges and prop them up with a couple of stays when needed. If I can find those brackets here in the UK, I will try your idea. Best regards Geoff Maddison.

I can't help but think I would eventually lean on this, so I myself would add some fold down legs that sit against the saw, kinda like diagonal braces that fold down from the table that rest on the saw at a 45 degree angle. But I agree this is brilliant.

Anthony, I don't know if you have a cabinet, contractor, or job site saw, but I just completed this project for my Dewalt DW744 job site saw. I had nothing to mount the folding table to, so I had to build a cabinet for it to sit on and attached the folding table to the cabinet. Hope this gives you some ideas around your problem if you haven't already solved it. I have pictures if you are interested in how I did it. epsanto2@comcast.net

Remove the brackets, and squirt some wood glue into the holes in the wood and then jam as many toothpicks or dowels as you can to fill in the holes with a combination of wood and glue. Let dry thoroughly overnight, sand down the filled holes to flat, and re-drill more carefully with a level this time.

Those Rigid stands are awesome. There's a pin on the underside that can make it flat/unmoveable or it can pivot quite a bit. Also, on a jobsite, if you have to rip a 16' board you can set up one behind the saw to support the infeed side and one in front to support the outfeed side. The first time I saw one of those I was amazed that I hadn't seen these sooner. How many times have installers had to have help to simply rip a board? Billions and billions of times. Now it's a one-man operation.
@XJWill1
@XJWill1 6 лет назад
I cannot tell how much lower you made the surface of the outfeed table below the table saw surface, but unless it is more than 3/8-in, you are going to need to route a cutout in the plywood for miter bars on sleds that go past the end of the table.
@HBSuccess
@HBSuccess 6 лет назад
You can see the bottom edge of the slots at the back of the saw, so pretty obvious it's below them. Colin has been woodworking for 40-50 yrs - pretty sure he already realizes this about his table saw.
@XJWill1
@XJWill1 6 лет назад
No, it is NOT below them. You are viewing the tabletop from an elevated position and there is about 1-in gap between the saw table and the outfeed table, so it is impossible to tell from that viewpoint which is higher. But Colin says on the web project page that the outfeed table is 1/16-in lower than the top of the saw table. Since miter slots are 3/8-in deep, that means that the outfeed table is about 5/16-in ABOVE the bottom of the miter slot.
@chrisnelson5160
@chrisnelson5160 5 лет назад
Typically when I use my outfeed table, I am ripping long pieces to size. The only time I use my miter slots is when crosscutting material, so I have no need for the outfeed table and leave it down. Colin might be operating his in the same way...…...

Finding a way to mount the brackets is more difficult for a contractor saw, as compared to Colin's cabinet saw. The problem is that most contractor saws do not have a vertical flat surface (also many of them have a motor hanging out the back). Has anyone mounted brackets like these to a contractor saw? If so, can you post a link to pictures or a video? The only secure mounting method I can think of would need a couple 2x4's on each side of the saw. One mounted to the underside of the saw table and protruding about a foot out the back, and another mounted lower, near the bottom of the saw enclosure or the top of the saw stand, again protruding a foot out the back. Then an upright could be mounted to those 2x4's, and the bracket installed on the upright. The extra foot of protrusion is to clear the hanging motor.
@zz8352
@zz8352 6 лет назад
I built a table for my contractor saw to sit in. It has plenty of flat boards to mount something like this on. Of course, then the whole thing would tip over, since it weighs like 50lbs vs the hundreds a cabinet or hybrid tablesaw weighs.

"Drill a pilot hole" That's the way to say it. English is not my language and I always get confused when woodworkers say pre-drill, which I think is impossible, since you can't pre-do something. You just do something. Same thing when people say in english things like seven times smaller instead of using fractions. Things can't be x times smaller than themselves. Great video. I need to make an outfeed table for my delta 36-725. Thanks.
@elijahmcstotts2871

Just a theory about why we say "7 times smaller" instead of using fractions is because a large majority of us (most woodworkers not included) don't know how to use fractions...

I like this quite a bit. Especially since the back rail for supporting the fence on your saw is made of angle iron as does mine. Other solutions I have seen depend on that support being made of square tube steel which have a bottom surface that can be drilled so as not to interfere with the travel of the fence. Despite the cost of the brackets, I'll be doing this build.

Great idea and a great video, couldn't wait to put this on my saw. I have tried several times to come up with an idea for this but nothing ever worked very well. I have a job site ridgid saw that folds up to move like a hand truck. The lower base is plastic and the attachment points are at a 30 deg horizontal angle with a 15 deg vertical angle. Never the less, through trial and effort I got the brackets made and for additional stability bolted them to the metal table as well. Cut the miter extensions and added your paddle release mechanism. I couldn't be more pleased. I can still fold the saw and I added a magnet to keep the table from rocking while moving. Thank you sir.

Excellent video and outfeed table. I've been wanting tome one for a long time but couldn't find one I liked. With a small shop if needed it to fold.Thanks.

Thanks for the idea. I have a very uneven workshop floor so a normal table will not work. I have a contractor saw with an exterior motor so it was a little more complex but I now have a folding outfeed table using the same brackets as yours.
