Table Saw Folding Outfeed Table | DeWalt DWE7491RS

In this woodworking video I'm going to be making a table saw folding outfeed table for my DeWalt DWE7491RS table saw. I have a tiny woodshop that is a 1 car garage and I have limited shop space. So, when I decided I needed an outfeed table, it couldn't take up any more room in my shop. My only option was a folding table saw outfeed table. This is a space saving solution that will keep your garage organized while improving the workflow in your shop. This was an easy woodworking project that drastically improved productivity. This is the perfect table saw outfeed table for a small shop.
I'll walk you though taking the plan, taking measurements, building the frame, attaching the hinges and attaching the outfeed table top. Then I'll test it and show you how it works.

I have made an update to this table since this video. I noticed that when trying to make bevel cuts on the table saw that the dust port would hit the frame. I would suggest moving the saw from 0-full bevel to make sure your frame is wide enough.

I’m in the middle of making the what I call the “Travis Out feed table” so what your saying is to make sure the frame that attaches to the stand is wide enough for the dust port ?

Ya. Set the saw to a max degree bevel cut and build around where the dust port sticks out. I missed this the first time. I made a quick fix for now but I plan to rebuild the frame and make some plans for my website.

You probably could. Would have to take the router out before folding up. Yes, it's stable. If I stood on it the entire table saw would probably flip over before the outfeed table breaks. Haha.

I made this today from your idea. Happily, I noticed the bevel issue before mounting the frame, so that sort of took care of itself. One thought for you... you might want to route out grooves in the outfeed to accommodate runoff by a miter gage or large sled. Let's start looking at an infeed for this table now!! Ha! Great vids. Thanks very much!
@HowIDoThingsDIY
@HowIDoThingsDIY 2 года назад
Awesome! I commented and also made plans on my website of the 3rd iteration of this table to fix the bevel issue. Im still trying to decide if I want to cut in grooves. I find every time I use something that uses the miter slots, I don't need the outfeed table so I just told it down.
@unixgeek13
@unixgeek13 2 года назад
@@HowIDoThingsDIY my folded down outfeed surface ended up a bit too high. Anything in the miter slot still hits the outfeed, whether it's folded, or not. My bad on that one. Still... your design makes great sense. Thanks VERY much!

Just ordered those hinges, and planning to add that table saw to my mobile work trailer later this week as an addition to my current cordless dewalt table saw for job site use. @drgwentzel

Travis, 2 quick questions, and a comment... Do you think using 3/4" MDF would work for this project, or might it be too heavy? How come you didn't rout out a couple slots for the miter tracks? Acturally, maybe the gap between the table and saw makes that unnessesary? Great idea and plans Travis, and nice video editing! Getting started right away on this. Gene
@HowIDoThingsDIY
@HowIDoThingsDIY Год назад
I would use plywood. MDF chips in the corners and doesn't have the same support strength. You can cut miter slots if you want. I just fold my table down when I use my sled. I was concerned miter slots would weaken the table. However, I've seen others add that to my design. Thanks!

@HowIDoThingsDIY
@HowIDoThingsDIY 10 месяцев назад
They probably will work but they may hang over the frame of the saw a bit when folded down. FYI, I did find an issue with my original design when making 45 degree bevel cuts. I had to adjust the frame so the dust port will clear. I addressed that in my plans if your interest. If not, just make sure you take that into consideration. Thanks for the comment! Just about to make this, but two quick questions: 1) did you square off the rounded edges of the 2x4s? and 2) for the pieces that make up the small frame attached to the saw, do they end up all being 1.5" x 1.5" or so?
@HowIDoThingsDIY
@HowIDoThingsDIY Год назад
You don't have to square off the 2x4s, but you can if you like. I ripped 2x4' in half and the flipped 90 degrees to make sure they were square. By the time I cleaned the "2x2" in half, they were 1 3/8"

Have you ever thought about making a small infeed table/support to extend the capacity?
@HowIDoThingsDIY
@HowIDoThingsDIY 2 года назад
Hmmm... I haven't. I have to put this thing away after each use, so I don't want to overcomplicate it. It seems like that would also get in the way of the controls.

Will the runners on your table sled clear the outfeed table?
@HowIDoThingsDIY
@HowIDoThingsDIY Год назад
No. I just fold it down when I use a sled but you could also cut dado slots for clearance. I didn't like the idea of cutting 1/2" deep slots in my 3/4" thick outfeed table. Thanks for the question!

Jeff, thanks so much for supporting the channel right from the start. That's awesome! I think this is the adapter I use on the saw. Double check before ordering. I bought it on Amazon but you could also order throu DeWalt. It tapers, not straight like it shows in the photo. www.dewalt.com/products/accessories/tool-accessories/dust-management-accessories/tapered-large-diameter-adapter-for-dewalt-dust-extractors/dwv9140

Great outfeed table! Did you have to add mitre slots later or when folded down is the outfeed table out of the way when using a sled?
@HowIDoThingsDIY
@HowIDoThingsDIY Год назад
I was going to add miter slots but I didn't want to weaken the 3/4" plywood and it it's totally out of the way when folded down so I didn't see the need. Thanks for the comment!

Very nicely made outfeed table, what was the maximum weight allowed for those brackets? I'm kind of shocked with the price you paid for that Plywood as well. New Subscriber. Stay Safe, Barry (ENG)
@HowIDoThingsDIY
@HowIDoThingsDIY 3 года назад
Thanks! There's a link in the description to the brackets. Amazon states the max weight of the brackets is 440lbs. My portable table saw would flip far before that!! I also use a larger version of these for my folding work bench top. The work bench top weights like 75lbs and the planer I put on it is another 92lbs. Ive never had an issue!

Your handle on the stand is installed backwards. The handle should point up and the two pipe ends should curve up not down. The little rubber pad should be on the other side of the pipe where they can sit in contact with the ground. This all effects the length of the outfeed table unfortunately for those of us who have this installed correctly.
