I've only heard of a couple of these, but most of them look great. It's always nice to see you highlight some free games among your list of top tier titles. Really appreciate these roundup videos dude, you are deep diving in the boomer shooter sea.
5:00 I agree with another comment I saw here. Having a vhs filter body cam in 1982 just makes no sense. At that time, VHS was considered a more high end media format. I believe some films on VHS were around 60$ but if any other collectors have better sourced information, please share! But the point is, in 1982 VHS was something you might see at a fancy entertainment centre but certainly not a body cam. Would have been better to have it be a laserdisc bodycam 😊
Zlim has a way of finding so many neat looking games. I've actually discovered and went on to greatly enjoy several games that I only learned about from @Zlimbratski epic channel

Just as "AAA" gaming disappears up it's own butt - what with zero innovation, disgusting monitization and invasive DRM - mercifully the indie scene is just ...'booming'. Rilla Shotgun and Witching hour both have demos - on their Steam pages. 'Rilla Shotgun is really good fun.

Isn't a third person shooter just an FPS with a character model in the way? I'd be curious to see how third person shooters play if you could simply hide the model, wonder if they would feel different or not

Played "Retchid" for several levels. This game was clearly inspired by Doom3, although it most definitely has nothing to do with Quake, unlike what Brother Zlim promises us ;-). In fact, it tries so hard to be Doom3 with entire sections, stylistic techniques and other signature gimmicks that appear copied directly from D3. Having that said, taking an inspiration from Doom3 is a double-edged sword and a questionable decision to say the least. Because, Doom3 was not a fully developed product with a lot of design and development holes left unaddressed and was apparently never tested properly in action. Thus, Doom3 and MODDED Doom3 - are two vastly different games with the former mixing equal parts flies and ointment to the point where you can not stomach its deluge of blunders, while the latter may provide an extremely polished, precision tempered result. Depending on the mod of choice, that is. So a decision to take after a dubiously unfinished and untested game - is only for the experts that clearly understand what D3's original blunders were and what is the best way of fixing those. Unfortunately, the creators of "Retchid" are not such experts. While lacking the skills to create Doom3's brilliant ambient soundscape or its awe-inspiring super-hi-tech automated machinery, or any equivalent of D3's iconic monsters (which were both terrific looking and fun to fight with the right mod), "Retchid" tries to put its clumsy feet into the shoes that are both too big and too sophisticated for a caveman use. Alas, but "Retchid" has nothing to offer but samey-same-same looking levels which every now and then try to squeak "we are Doom3 too...sometimes", and an excruciatingly stiff, janky gunplay which is much, much less fun than fighting off zombies with a flashlight ever was. Even the unmodded Doom3 had non-stop combat. Once the intro chapter was over - you get to kill something every few meters. And the aiming was extremely precise. Here the mouse is all over the place and boredom rules as all you get to do - is shoot zombie fodder that runs toward your gun barrel anyway. Not recommended.
I missed your comments :) Glad to read them again! I did give it a more proper spin after this video that you can find in the "live" tab on the channel. In there I noticed some things that was lacking, as an example the weapons, how they sound and feel, the lack of recoil but a ton of bullet spread, the enemy feedback and AI behaviour etc. What is cool tho is that in that stream a developer accompanied us and took notes from the feedback, today they dropped a patch which improves the enemy feedback, they are working on the guns, a map and a flashlight :)
@@ZlimBratSki In that case, i am glad to write them! While it is, of course, nice that the devs appear committed to address the game's issues, but in this case they would have to get much more creative than that. Because...Doom3. If they don't make memorable monsters (SOMA, Doom3, Scorn, Dead Space, Ripout?), then they are bound to end up with something that is here today and forgotten tomorrow. Second, is the environments. I don't know if you like Doom3 in some form or not, and whether you're well familiar with it or not, but i'll presume it anyway. (as i am too well familiar with it) And one issue where Doom3 always shined - was its one of a kind environments. Be it ENPRO Facility, Recycling Sector, The huge reactor at Delta Labs, The Central Processing - or anything else (except Hell levels, those were lame) - it was always top notch. A hauntingly beautiful, highly detailed sinister tech masterpieces to explore and be amazed with while fighting. If this game does not up the ante on that front, after the big daddy - its oblivion is guaranteed. Which brings us to gameplay, and again to Doom3. Let me just mention that Imps could feint during an attack...let this sink in for a while. Count that against those goombas that behave like something from a bad Doom-clone from 1994 (lol, Fortress of Dr. Radiaki?). What i'm saying is that the amount of work required here to make something really worthy - is going to be overwhelming. And an overwhelming amount of work done - is highly unlikely to happen. Unless the release date will be pushed to 2025 :-) or...2026.
@@HexenStar I'm somewhat familiar with doom 3 but I always thought it went bonkers with the hell levels and I always stopped playing there, never finished it. But I see what you mean and I'm with you on that, however I think they will be capable of creating a fun and engaging experience but I do not think it will reach no where near AAA standards, and most likely not be the best game ever but a decent one, all be it a bit overpriced. We still have 2 more episodes and a whole year of development before 1.0 so a lot can happen but maybe not everything :)
@@ZlimBratSki Actually by today, AAA - is not a sign of quality. A sign of money, maybe - but not of quality. We all know that more than enough top quality projects were made by a single man in the middle of nowhere and then selling the result for mere peanuts. Project Warlock, Slain, Valfaris, HROT, Haiku The Robot, Unworthy, - there are plenty more. I for one - have my faith exclusively in indie developers (and mod-makers, of course). They have the talent and dedication that the big corporations don't. Even the big dogs at the once-mighty ID Software ain't got nothing on the mod-makers' talent. As for Doom3, yeah, the original is too clumsy for me to comment on how much torture it can cause when played unmodded, lol. But if you like it, i made a mod that makes e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g...better in that game. SFX, VFX, balance, quality of life. A long list of things. A little bit harder too 😉, but no cheap nonsense. Kinda like Dead Space type. If you want to give Doom3 another shot, this mod (Doom-3-Bravo) might pleasantly surprise you. Devs always shoot themselves in the foot and still release everything on the same day, and then wonder why they senpais don't notice them Not really interested in any of those though, maybe Death Again if it isn't yet another early access release
What your saying is true, more analysis on a good release date should have been done for most of these, a lot of them will get overshadowed by other releases. Now I need this honesty in the discord :)
