Former Hilton GM here. That is an under the door tool. They’ve been around for decades and can be anywhere from professionally made like that one or even home made. We need those to be able to open a door in case a door lock battery dies (there’s only about a 50 to 75% chance a battery ‘jump pack’ will open the door). I kept mine in my locked office and the only two people trained were me and our director of engineering. I’ve popped dozens of doors even with practice and I’ll say that video makes it looks too easy. Generally it took me at least 5 minutes of tampering with a door to get it open which will no doubt alert anyone in the hall. In fact, one time I was called in on a day off to deal with one so I was dressed casually and wouldn’t you know another guest immediately called the front desk to report a strange man tampering with a door 😅. I ordered a professional one and I had to send an affidavit on letterhead with references including info on our ownership to even purchase one as they can also be used in apartment building and college dorms. I will say those flip flop ‘L’ bolts are a tad easier to open than the old style ‘U’ bolts but nonetheless both are easily penetrable to anyone with training but regardless heavy tampering noise occurs to get them breached. That hotel in Brazil had a huge problem if that was more than a room or two. My best advice is to take advantage of an in room safe or front desk safe deposit box for valuables that you’d rather not keep with you all day and when you are in the room, lock the electronic deadbolt, not only is that an actual deadbolt (lever above the handle) but it’s also an electronic lockout for nearly all keys other than emergency keys which would only be accessible by upper management and of course the fire department.

@joebaillar - Would hanging a jacket or towel on the inside handle make it more difficult or impossible to use that "under the door tool"? or possibly tying the towel around the handle to make it more difficult to get the loop on to the handle?
@joebaillar
@joebaillar Месяц назад
@@jisozaki absolutely, there’s really nothing to the tool, they’re flimsy and there’s no strength or anything and likely that would make it near impossible to get it open, that said his concern was when you’re not in the room which I guess you could hang a jacket on the handle but it may fall off when you close the door…idk…I actually travel a lot for my new career and I’m to afraid to try this. If there’s a maintenance issue with that lock that prevents you from getting in you may create a huge issue for the hotel team to get you in. The biggest cause to my door lock battery issues was actually digital key. Fortunately the technology has come farther along since my hotel opened and those issues have slowly become more resolved.

Every hotel I have stayed at has a huge gap between the door to the room and the floor, and a bathroom door with a near zero gap to the floor. We just need them to them to swap the doors and problem solved.

I've been wanting to visit Universal Studios but I dread the lines, the crowds, the cost. 😮

I didn't do the VIP Pass at Universal Orlando, I just did the unlimited fast pass for the time I was there and man it was worth the money. Was able to get on the rides multiple times. Got a lot of dirty looks from people as we walked through the lines LOL

That is another great way to do it. If you aren't bringing a car and can eat cheaply probably a better value overall too.

I’ve been lucky enough to do the universal studios VIP in Orlando and yes you get to do both universal parks on the same day! They take you onto the Harry Potter train and go right to the front of that queue too, which then takes you to the different park. You get the same access and food options, including breakfast and a catered lunch buffet, we did see a couple of back lots, a lot more rides and not having to wait felt amazing! I’m hoping to do the California tour, next time we’re out there, glad to hear that you and your son had a great time Mark! Great show as always guys

I enjoyed the Tommie Austin, and the Hollywood property is actually really nice. They just did a shit job sound proofing it, or at least decided the roof top was worth more than the guests I guess.

Looking forward to seeing your trip in Tokyo! We booked a free transpacific cruise this august on carnival panorama. We used their casino status match program thanks to one of your previous videos! We will have a couple days in Tokyo before we fly home and hope to fit in as much as possible!

Great travel insights fellers. I'm probably in the minority in this crowd, but Disney just sounds like a total nightmare to me in 2024, so I can definitely relate to Mark on that front! Then again, I'm the least patient theme park goer in all the land. The lines seem insurmountable every time I show up! How long would you say the waits are these days for the average ride? Love ya guys! Great show! See you on the next one!
@markostermann6632
@markostermann6632 Месяц назад
I think 20-30 mins for non popular rides and then 45-90 minutes for more popular ones. Also depends time of day etc. That is why I liked about the tour- he was able to expertly get us around the place quickly.

For Hyatt Gift Cards I’ve found many front desk agents don’t have access to apply the GC. I normally speak to a manager if I have time or call after check out and have the AGM or GM apply the GC and refund the original payment.

The meat and potatoes are sign up bonuses for cards.
@markostermann6632
@markostermann6632 Месяц назад
As @icanseaclearnow said below the best way to get started is from welcome offers. Banks will give new cardholders $750 - $1500 in travel points for signing up for a new card and spending $3,000 - $5,000 on the card in the first 3-4 months. Doing just a few of these a year can make a big difference in your travels.
