Sorry guys for the delay on this video i’ve been teaching myself to edit on davinci resolve and also i had 3.5h of footage to cut and edit for this one😅 hope you enjoy the video and thanks for your patience
Dude I’m 50 years old and built my first lure when I was barely a teenager. I’ve picked up a lot of knowledge and more than a few tricks over the decades… I don’t want to sound arrogant about it; the point is not many guys out here in the interwebs have much to teach me anymore. You are my favorite builder to watch. You have taught me some things. Keep up the great work brother! 👍
Absolutely beautiful work as usual Mikko! I really enjoyed this one and it was worth the wait. Lol. I know you put in a lot of time and sacrifice. I always enjoy seeing your work and appreciate what you do for the building community. Thank you and I'm definitely looking forward to seeing the next video.
Just some advice. Although this jointed swimbait isn't as crucial as a glide. The microballons will rise in the mold. So with your spru holes being at the bottom of the bait all of your buoyancy created by the micro balloons will be at the bottom of the bait when they should be at the top, resulting in an unstable swimbait. Beautiful job on the molds. But the lures performance would be much better if you were to have them parallel and you fill from the top!
I use a thin blade on my band saw I use for lures and small stuff like that. The thinner blade seems, to me at least, to be easier to make curves that are smoother cuts.
Came back to watch this video again. This is such and amazing lure. Love the action. And I see you sold out which is super! I would like to make a lure like this.
Love watching your videos! One question for you on carving in the scales. Is this wasted effort in that the carved scales are filled in by the epoxy at the end vs just using the netting for the scale effect? Curious about your thoughts on this. Thank you!
It really depends on what kind of effect you want to accomplish. carved scales to me look more realistic when you highlight them and dont take as much time to do as painted scales. But that being said i dont think the fish care either way, both will work.
Love how meticulous you are with the process, there’s nothing more frustrating than watching someone cut corners and your workmanship is the exact opposite! Much love from England 😊
Wow wow wow, I have to say it has to be one of your best videos, if not the best. The combination of detail and how you showed some of your techniques, plus the result with those beautiful lures es ES PEK TA CULAR 🙌👏👏👏👏👏👏 We do really appreciate you fine work. On the other hand, did you only weighted the front part of the lure?
I enjoy every video that you upload on every lure that you make. Thanks so much Mikko. But I do strongly disagree with you on one thing you've said a couple of times. You chose to not share your templates and it's not because they are destroyed in the process of creating a lure... You can always make copies, post PDFs, or even show a straight-on view of your in-tact templates prior to use in your videos. You deliberately chose to not share them, and I whole heartedly believe it is fine if you share or if you don't, because your templates are yours to do with as you please and see fit, just as you decided to not show weighting and balancing of these lures. Most manufacturer's keep trade secrets. If you're going to give a reason for not sharing your intellectual property, please be transparent, we can take it... or at least those of us that are mature enough can. By the way, I have drawn this swimbait in 5 inch and 6 inch templates and would be more than happy to send them to you if you like. Again, thanks for all the wonderful content that you produce for our benefit!
It would be nice to speed through the boring bits. Such as, the band saw choice, the tuning of the saw, and of course the EVER MORE ANNOYING bloody safety BS. I mean what is this? Is it a lure making session, or a Woodworking 101, Wood working for the imbecile? The point IS to make us watch for the LURE MAKING as you see it, right? Just think…EVERYTHING we watch, has the SAME ANNOYING SAFETY LESSONS. Somebody has to just get on with it. Pander to the 99% of us who DON’T REQUIRE the SAFETY WHINE.
As someone who is essentially teaching i feel its my responsibility to try and promote safe working methods. You are always free to skip the boring parts. Or even better make your own videos and choose your own direction.
Just to add one point: NEVER use gloves for band saws, circular saws or belt sanders! Using gloves is e.g. forbidden in Germany for that, as it increases the risk and the potential damage, if it rips your hand in the machine because of your glove!
I follow you since you still using handtool..and still remember that you pick a wood that been throw away and make a beatiful lure..dont worry about what people say about tool
This video was superb!!! But I do have one question …. When you’re gonna do the wash technique…. Do you put the wash right on top of your paint job or do you put a clear coat of some kind on first before you do the wash… again the video was awesome and really enjoy how you explain everything and why you do what you do… thanks again
