How do taxes work on HYSA? Do you have to pay taxes when withdrawing? Or is it a yearly thing like w-2’s? If anyone can explain the “dumb it down” version pls and Ty
Do any of these HYSA freak out if you make multiple smaller deposits, such as a few thousand at a time? I have been winning money at the casino and was making smaller deposits on a regular basis at my credit union and got accused of "structuring" to avoid reporting at $10K or more. I had never heard of structuring before and had no intent to avoid any reporting. Also, I made some $10K and more deposits that did get a CTR, and the casino has submitted W-2Gs to the IRS for all my winnings that require reporting for tax purposes. Just wondering what these HYSA do about smaller deposits.
I used to work at a bank, and banks in general have certain rules they have to follow by law. For example, when someone came in and made a 10K+ USD deposit, we had to report it; get ID, where the money is coming from, etc. What a lot of people did then was accumulate some cash, and then they would make weekly or biweekly deposits. And just justify whenever they’re asked for further info. That’s been my experience.

I'd like to know if cash apps or any other free method is available to transfer large amounts, if it triggers red flags…or do I have to pay 25 bux a pop or whatever the wire transfer fee is at my local bank at whatever amount they allow per transfer. Is it possible to just write a check for that amount to an online bank and be done with it? Or is that also a red flag or other no go idea.
