If you could bring back one old feature into modern homes, what would it be?

@@debbrown4731 All the sleeping porches I've ever seen were on the second floor and they didn't have ground access. That makes way more sense to me.

The house we moved into in Portland, Oregon, in 1991, had an "ice box" in the back porch. We used it to store garden things, until we totally remodeled later.

We had a laundry chute on the top floor. You put your dirty clothes in and they slid down two floors and landed on a big table next to the washing machine. It went past the first floor where there was an opening right in the mud room. Super handy.

I once lived in a house that had a servants room. It was off the kitchen & was my eldest brothers's room when we were teenagers. The back door was off the kitchen, also. So, of course, it was our favorite place to hang out. Lol

I was baptized in a wash basin, with the blessed water being poured over me from the pitcher at my grandparents home. This was in the 80s so it wasn't out necessity and not really sure why it wasn't done at the church. Also the priest almost drowned me.

1 of the apartments i have lived in used to be part of the servant's quarters for a mansion. facing 1 street was the main house very large . behind it was a beautiful garden of a back yard and at the back of the back yard was a small 2 story building. each floor was a 1 room efficiency apartment very well designed except they should have added insulation between the inner and outer walls . since nobody ever did back then if you closed your closet door ever all your clothes would get wet from sweating walls and mold. the inner walls would also get wet depending on the temperature and humidity outside . on the other side of the small building is a service road meant for deliveries with what is called the servants entrance to the back of the property .

Refrigerators are electric not electronic. 💡Electric means the power does something like heating, cooling, moving etc and with electronics the power transports information. Boot scrapers are still useful in areas that still get a lot of snow.

1:58 the lidded pot on the bottom shelf is called a chamber pot meant for pooping and peeing in . hence the old saying " He doesn't have a pot to piss in " 3:44 there is another chamber pot, blue /white on the floor at the foot of that bed ..

Transom windows are great. They work, very well, to let heat out, in the summer.
